Showtime Digs for New Lows
CBS's Showtime continues to push the envelope of gratuitous tastelessness in the establishment media campaign to transform American culture through rot:
Showtime is developing a reality series documenting gay people coming out to friends and family. The project is titled "Way Out." In each episode, a closeted individual reveals their true sexual orientation during a group meeting.
How compelling: Queer as Folk meets Jerry Springer.
For the first time, I wish I had signed up for Showtime — but only so I could cancel it.

On a tip from nanc.

skyangel, the only answer to disgusting cable and satellite television - decent and family friendly. i cannot get it where we are as our dsl is too slow, but they're working on that.

No no...you don't understand. They haven't gone far enough! This show (for example) should have family and friends drop by only to find the heretofore in-the-closet gay family member engaged in brutal gang-sex with leather-clad bondage masters.
Not only that, but a second grade class should be brought along as part of a "diversity and tolerance" field trip. The kids could see how a cat'o'nine tails is wielded, learn the finer points of administering ice-water enemas and maybe even have some show-and-tell with inflatable ball gags.
I guess my point here is: do whatever you want, but don't make it mainstream. You want to be gay? It's your life, but let's not have TV shows that make it seem like "just another lifestyle choice". We are sinking our society just as sure as if we'd elected Caligula as President.

Oh, and nanc? There IS another answer. We vote with our wallets and remotes. Even if you have "regular" cable, trust me...if enough people simply don't watch and don't support the sponsors, shows like "Way Out" will be way out in a hurry!

I don't get Showtime to cancel it, but this show sounds boring to me. I hate these personal-lives-displayed-just-for-you type things, like "Intervention." What would be appealing about this to anyone? I always feel like a peeping Tom when confronted with these types of things.

i want to know why people who THINK they're gay need intervention?

Maybe they could create SKY DEMON to compete with SKY ANGEL? Oh wait, they already have.

Our dish provider gave us three months of Showtime for being loyal customers. Flipping through, we see what Rush calls the "endless parade of human debris". Every night we get folks with multiple personality disorder, folks who can't keep their britches zipped, lesbians, rerun movies that were too anti- American to make it at the box office, and documentaries about global warming, evil corporations, and the joys of socialist living.
When we can't turn the damned thing off any more, and it starts watching back, then we know that 1984 has finally arrived.

Matt said: "if enough people simply don't watch and don't support the sponsors, shows like "Way Out" will be way out in a hurry!"
Perhaps, or perhaps not. Hollyweird keeps cranking out anti-American movies, even though most of them tank horribly and do well just to break even. Even if "Way Out" is pulled due to lack of viewership, the deviants at Showslime will just develop another show with a slightly different angle.

I'm sure that the studio execs who are so interested in reality shows will next release "Bashed", where hidden cameras secretly film the reactions of gay pride marchers to the presence of street preachers, nuns and old ladies carrying a Bible.

Unfortunately "Reality Television" isn't going away anytime soon. The lower it sinks, the more it will be resucitated for another go. (No, no- we've got it this time! Really!!) And yes, advertising revenue and ratings are what keep programs on TV, but to convince the advertisers themselves that you won't buy their products because of the content of what they sponsor takes a lot of people to write angry letters, emails, and make phone calls. But it will work. It takes a few weeks of constant noise, but they will listen.

Pablo has a point, and I will admit to another: reality shows cost bupkis to produce. They don't need to generate much income to ensure a profit.
Still, the best we can hope to do is not support anything associated with this stuff. I'd rather go that route than try and get some government censorship deal going.

"Maybe they could create SKY DEMON to compete with SKY ANGEL? Oh wait, they already have."
Indeed. It's called HBO.
It rather reminds me of something I'm working on. I've long been planning on writing a series of short stories revolving around a Christian superhero of my own creation, and one of the villains in it is a sleazy TV executive whose network's programming glamorizes the worst aspects of human life (As you can probably guess, he specializes in reality shows).

The posters on this site need to focus on their own lives and leave other people alone.
Have you solved all your personal problems? Have you done something good for somelse today?
Get a life and get off this blog.

Hey everyone...I'd love to keep posting, but I've got to "get a life" and "get off this blog". My opinions don't count, and my ability to exercise free speech is no longer available.
Please forgive me for not bowing to the wishes of that 4 percent of the population (the 10% figure has never been true) who would rather prance that walk.
I'm going to "focus on my life" and "leave other people alone"...just like gays left that old woman with a cross alone in San Diego.
