Nanny Staters Keep Us Safe From Novelty Lighters

Connecticut bureauweenies have imposed still more extraneous safeness on their constituents by banning novelty lighters.

The ordinance will take effect Dec. 17. The fire marshal and city police officers will enforce the local law, which includes [a] $100 fine for the "retail sale, offer of retail sale, gift or distribution of any novelty lighter within the territorial jurisdiction of the City of New London."

Why not? Novelty lighters are more likely to cause harm than the trans fats cities like New York have been banning. You could use one to ignite a stick of dynamite and hurt any number of people.

Senator Christopher Dodd (D-CT), better known for all the cash he raked in from Freddie and Fannie than for his pathetic presidential campaign, wants to take the ban national.

The national ban would require the Consumer Product Safety Commission to treat novelty lighters as a banned hazardous substance, which would prohibit the manufacture, importation, or sale of the lighters anywhere in the country.

If only the meddling moonbattery gumming up the gears of our democracy could be banned as a hazardous substance.

"Liberal" season. Don't knock it until you've tried it.

And we need it oh so bad. Our tolerance is their fuel. We must stop tolerating them.

"If you have 10,000 regulations, you destroy all respect for the law." - Winston Churchill

When you outlaw rubber duck lighters you have no respect for Law.

Moonbat, if that's a college education you're paying for, I'd ask for my money back. Ah, but I see it's some sort of Socialist education. Nothing but the finest from a socialist government.

Any one else tired of legislation for neglectful parents. Some stupid parent let's his six y.o. singe his eyebrows at the Wal-mart checkout because they were reading about the two headed baby Angelina & Brad just adopted.... now I'm gonna have to buy lighters with a combination lock. (By the way, that really did happen with Angelina & Brad)
