Goracle: Ice Caps Will Be Gone in 5 Years!

Never mind the steadily increasing cold. Al Gore has been screaming that the polar ice caps will be gone in 5 years!

You would think the inventor of the Internet would realize that this video will still be floating around 5 years from now, when temperatures are likely to be even colder, and the ice caps will most certainly still be in place.

Thomas Lifson aptly describes the mainstream media's avid participation in this hysterical farce as "suicide by propaganda."

On tips from Wiggins, Burning Hot, and Byron. Hat tip: Gateway Pundit.

I wonder if this guy has really sat down and thought about what he is saying. A slight change in global air temperatures is going to melt ice, in a sub-zero environment, roughly a mile thick in a place like Greenland in five years! This would be even more incredible in the Antarctic where entire mountain ranges are buried by the ice cap of continental size.

God help us. We are surrounded by idiots on all quarters.

Posted by: IOpian at December 15, 2008 9:19 AM

The longer Al Gore keeps up this charade, the fatter he gets. He must be making a killing off this scam.

Posted by: Kristy at December 15, 2008 9:22 AM

Glad that this video is in circulation. We have to HIT and HIT them with it for the next generation now. It is turning out to be excellent ammo.

Posted by: Air2air at December 15, 2008 9:22 AM

This vile and despicable scoundrel is finally beginning to realize that his "Globull Warming" golden goose is starting to lay black eggs and he really needs to up the anti, and fast! Now that Global Cooling (I'm in Minneapolis and it's -6F now with tonight's prediction being -18F (REAL temperature, not windchill)) is quickly becoming a reality to sane and rational people, I hope Obama doesn't still plan on creating a third-world economy based on this crap "science" here in my great country. But then again, this Mr. Socialism we're talking about.

This is NOT the same country I was born into and I weep...

What will happen is that now we have the obamessiah, he will shutdown coal, make gas so expensive, and tax any carbon generating activity and then claim he saved the earth. Al will agree and so that the earth is never threatened again, they will make these changes permanent. They will regulate the hell out of everything.

Meanwhile in China, they are comming on line with a new coal plant every week. But it's OK if THEY do it.

Posted by: bjd at December 15, 2008 9:45 AM

At least now someone has made a concrete prediction that we can point to when it turns out to be wrong. Quite frankly, I've never understood how ice is supposed to melt at less than 32 degrees (F) but then again, I'm not a true believer.

Posted by: scaramouche at December 15, 2008 9:57 AM

Dear Al Bore:

Ok, if 5 years from now the ice cap is completelyh gone, I'll buy what you are selling. But if the ice caps are still there, do you agree to STFU? Deal, Al? I know you read this site as DINO.

Posted by: DINO Killer at December 15, 2008 10:43 AM

I can't believe that people are buying into this stuff. Sheeple.......that's what they are. I'm moving to Costa Rica......Fuck this country's politians and news media....Fuckem' all.

I have been freezing my ass off for years now, and this thug is telling us it is getting hotter. I live in what has traditionally been a very moderate climate (Willamette Valley, Oregon), yet today, there is a foot of snow in my yard and the low tonight is 15f. Fifteen degrees, folks! Last time I experienced 15 degrees was in Buffalo NY back in 1977.

Give me some global warming so I can have my garden back!

Goracle: Ice Caps Will Be Gone in 5 Years! Why, is he going to EAT them?

Posted by: V the K at December 15, 2008 11:17 AM

The downside of this that everyone seems to have missed is he's just given his "AlGore Show" a five year extension. This unscrupulous pimp can do a lot of mischief in five years, and trust me...at four years, 364 days and 59 minutes, he'll still be saying "any moment now".

By the time him and The Messiah (or as he's now getting to be known "Bloggo's Buddy") are done, they'll have used this to screw up the energy situation in this country for the next 50 years...and kids from kindergarten to college will still be believing in "Global Warming" since they here it 24/7 as a "fact".

This could be the worst and most damaging aspect of the new administration.

Posted by: matt at December 15, 2008 11:32 AM

I meant to say "they HEAR it 24/7". See? The increased temperatures and sea levels have had an adverse effect on my spelling.

Posted by: matt at December 15, 2008 11:34 AM

I need to move to the arctic cap if it's warm enough to melt ice there, it was a balmy -6 degrees this morning here in Southwest Iowa.

From the Gateway Pundit

Actually, Andrew Bolt says it is only 4 years:

Actually, make that four years. Gore has been predicting this for a year already. For some unknown reason he’s still saying five years when one of those years has already passed.

OK... 2012 then.

Posted by: Dennis at December 15, 2008 12:24 PM

Global cooling IS global warming? What the hell?

When are these maniacs going to start making sense? Carbon footprint? I'm sorry, but aren't we CARBON based life forms? If we take a step, we're leaving a carbon footprint?!

Sheez. I wonder when scientists will come to a real consensus. You know, one based on data and actual fact?

Posted by: Cheesecake at December 15, 2008 12:24 PM

It's a very profitable business. Money from carbon offsets goes to the person who sells them; and while there is "oversight available" it's not required. He's a rich man.

I kind of love how every winter now, as it gets colder, it's "See! Global warming is nonsense" and every summer when it gets hot, it's "See! Global warming!" As though spring and summer have not followed fall and winter since time immemorial lol. And of course, we must be responsible for the overall slight warming that's happened on Mars, too.

What a scam. Unfortunately a scam that Obi-wan is very determined to address in law. The NJ governor has already signed law which will destroy a hell of a lot of industry and private citizenry in this state (reducing emissions by 50% in 10 years and 80% in the following years) and his chief instigator has just been picked by Obi-wan as head of the EPA. Jobs, energy, are going to be nonexistent and we're going to hit ACTUAL hard economic times, not the chicken-little "hard times" we have now.

Posted by: young whippersnapper at December 15, 2008 9:12 PM

where are icecaps the thickest? from what point? are they formed from the top down or from the bottom up? where would one find the bulk of an icecap?

Posted by: nanc at December 15, 2008 9:56 PM

Nanc

Most of the freshwater in the world is in glaciers. They contain about 68% of the world's freshwater. They grow from snow falling and freezing. The warmer the oceans, the more evaporation, the more snow, the faster they grow. (This causes a slight puzzlement in using their shrinkage as proof of global warming.) Of course, we know ocean temperatures really lag land and atmosphere temperatures.

About 10% of the ice is in Greenland and about 90% is in the Antartic. Most people don't realize just how big these accumulations of ice really are. Greenland, for example has about 600,000 cubic miles of ice. Antartica is proportionally more. Greenland's ice averages about a mile thick but can be as much as 2.5 miles thick. The bulk is in the central part as is the billions of tons of weight. The weight of this much ice actually pushes the earth down so the ice kind of sits in a bowl. The map on the site I'm including gives you an idea of the extent of the ice. Ice covers more than 10% of the land surface of the planet. (note, the little glaciers in Alaska are just specks of white--it doesn't matter if they melt or not. It wouldn't affect the ocean in a measureable way.) Melting the Greenland and Antartica glaciers would bring the oceans up about 50-70 meters.

Another point is that icebergs the size of New Hampshire don't mean anything--if a lot of mass is being added to the inland bulk of the glacier.

There's a good reason the Moonbats stopped calling it "Global Warming" and started calling it "Global Climate Change"... and that reason is the cooling, haha. Only morons fall for this political nonsense.

It's all just elitists like Gore and Obama who wanna tell you how to live and make you ride around on bikes while they continue to take chauffeured limos everywhere they go. They don't even see the irony in that nor do their drooling followers. This is gonna be a long 4 years.

Posted by: Cartman at December 15, 2008 10:44 PM

"based on this crap "science""

Just like evolution hey.

Posted by: Anonymous at December 15, 2008 10:45 PM

What's idiotic about the moonbat left is they squeal constantly about the Bush Administration's (largely imaginary) expansion of government power and loss of freedom in order to fight a global war on terror against a very real threat.

But what is their "solution" to the phantom menace of Global "Climate Change?" A vast expansion of government power and a severe loss of personal freedom.

Like I said, idiots.

Furthermore, Al Gore owns multiple homes, the largest of which consumes more than twenty-times the energy of the average American. He also travels everywhere by private jet and chauffeured SUV to warn people that they have to give up their cars and use deadly Chinese lightbulbs or the world is doomed.

He is like a preacher who warns that drinking, gambling, and fornication will lead you to Hell, then shows up at a casino, drunk, with a prostitute on each arm.

I don't blame the troll for posting anonymously. If I were stupid enough to fall for Al Gore's con scheme, I'd be too embarrassed to post a name, too.

This concept of the science being settled is as ridiculous as seeing one frame of a movie and saying you saw the movie.

The shortest periodicity of the Milankovitch cycles is Precession and it lasts 23,000 years. The planet has only made it through 1/4 of this cycle in all of human history. The average human only lives long enough to experience six of seven solar cycles.

Now our science can teach us things beyond our ability to experience and observe and when looking at this data it shows us that we exist in an unusually stable time of climatic history as we come out of the latest glacial period which encompasses all of human history. It is all we have ever experienced, a consistent warming trend over thousands of years with short term variations.

Gore has this myopic theory limited to a few hundred years of variations and then making the claim that humans are causing these oscillations is absolute stupidity because he excludes everything that has happened before. Looking at all of the data exposes an inconvenient truth that we never could and never will be able to affect our climate in any way that threatens the planet. We are little more than an arrogant little fungus on its surface. The best we can do is adapt to these changes that are going to happen with or without us. If it is warming then our resources would be better spent in protecting our agriculture and controlling the environment of our homes.

Imagine a Mac truck is bearing down on you. The Goracle solution is to hold out your hands and try to stop it. The non-idiot solution is to adapt to the situation and jump the hell out of the way of it.

"This concept of the science being settled is as ridiculous as seeing one frame of a movie and saying you saw the movie. - Posted by: IOpian at December 16, 2008 11:09 AM"

It kills me when people go around saying "the science is settled". Science is never really settled. Newtonian physics was the final word for a long time - it was settled, and then Einstein and Heisenberg et al came along and things got really unsettled in a hurry.

The only thing settled with climate science is that CO2 levels in the atmosphere are higher now than they were in the fairly recent past. The temperature data is suspect for a variety of reasons, the motives of many scientists are questionable, and the computer projections are simply ridiculous. The subject is just massive and extraordinarily complex, and our information is grossly incomplete, and is some cases, likely misleading due to inconsistent data gathering over time, or politically/financially motivated "scientists".

Declaring the debate over on something as complex as the climate is a profoundly unscientific stance to take.

It never stopped the AGW crew. They claim consensus, but there never IS consensus within science. Its always changing, shifting, realigning, etc. Scientific 'view' has changed so much within the last 50 years - Newton would see what we now know as magic...

Al Gore and his Henny-Penny act was old the first time he mounted the soapbox. Now, its so far past funny or dark humor, even the Onion parodies aren't funny.

Even his Inconvenient Truth, been debunked, countered, and even dissected by far knowledgeable *scientists* than Al and his *researchers*. Yet, "they're all haters, and, can't see the truth before their very eyes" is the mantra uttered at any attempt of debate, rebuttal, or counter with facts.

Al's (along with his robotic followers) rose colored glasses only allow him to see/think what his myopic views allow...
