First They Came for the Roses
It looks like the first casualty of Obamunism is going to be roses. There are plans to use 200,000 of them in his coronation ritual.
The national nonprofit Operation REACH organization has announced the quest to break the Guinness World Record for the largest bouquet of flowers. The Roses for Change endeavor seeks to get Americans to thank Obama "for the hope and inspiration he has given to our nation," by amassing the roses to be delivered on Jan. 19 to Washington, the day before the inauguration. …
If you're considering donating some roses, Operation REACH is recommending a red rose given to Obama to represent change…
Vladimir Lenin would agree that red is the right color to represent the change Obama offers.

On a tip from Justin.

So how much damage will be done to the environment by using all these hothouse blooms? I would think a truly PC gesture would involve organic natural wildflower bouquets. Better yet, send nothing at all and give the money that would have been spent to the poor...

Just think of all the poor proles that could be fed with the millions spent on those roses.

Does anyone still doubt this is a personality cult?
/but when Bush was re-elected it was tasteless to have a large celebration due to there being a war on.

Wretched excess is right! The whole Hawaii vacation thing is making the 48% livid. They've never heard of the word "unseemly."
"get Americans to thank Obama 'for the hope and inspiration he has given to our nation,'"
I HOPE he only gets one term and I'm INSPIRED to work tirelessly for the other side, at all levels.

I still don't understand how Obama doesn't realize the potential risk he's running of letting down all of these worshippers. If he fails in his mission, they'll rip him to pieces, and denounce him as "one of Bush's cronies". Just wait. When this eventually goes south for him, people will turn on him like a pack of feral dogs. Maybe he should tell his followers to tone it down a little bit. You know how it goes- the bigger they are...

Yep Murff, Im waiting for the Daily Kos nuts to declare that Obama is really a double agent working for Karl Rove and Dick Cheney and Haliburton cabal. Or even that the real Obama has been kidnapped and replaced with a lookalike from the secret mountain lair where Dick Cheney hides.

The fawning Worship Cult around this guy is truly disgusting. He's a slick, Chicago politician and more likely than not as dirty as they come. OK, fine...that's politics. He's going to be Prez, so let's see what he does.
But to SEND ROSES TO THANK HIM FOR THE SALVATION OF OUR SOULS? To PAY TEN BUCKS SO THE WASHINGTON POST CAN RUN PRE-WRITTEN WORSHIP MESSAGES TO HIS HOLINESS? The untested "Messiah" hasn't done a damn thing yet except appoint a bunch of Washington insiders, waffle on Bloggo and throw people under the bus.
At least he's (so far) pissed off the far left, so for that I might send him a carnation for his lapel...red, of course.

Something's wrong with the server, sometimes when I go to the next topic I get one of those "link to ad" pages. When that comes up, the whole site goes down. I'm lucky that I could get back to this page; the last time this happened, Moonbattery was GONE.

This addresses the source of his cult of personality:

A real waste of flowers isnt it i would rather send him something like stinkweed or MARALIAHAN MUSTARD or any other noucoius weed

Roses are such a cloying fragrance. I'd much rather send geraniums, for folly. More apropos.
Unless there's a flower that symbolizes "leaping into a gaping abyss"?

No matter how many roses they waste, it will not cover the stench of this exessive and bloated megalomaniac.
Everything he has done so far has been out of context of his "promises" to the suckers,
er, I mean faithful

I guess we will either have to either move the coronation to another state or pospone it because we all now what a wonderous enviromentalist the messiah is, and he would only want locally grown, in-season flowers like the Goracle commands the rest of us purchase. Of course all of the flowers will be properly composted afterwards.

How about using those roses for the TORNIMENT OF ROSES PARADE instead of giving them to some false prophet
