Congressman Calls for Rangel to Resign
Wouldn't it be nice if the corrupt leftist demagogue Charlie Rangel could be pried out of Congress?
A Georgia congressman is calling on the powerful chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Charlie Rangel, to resign amid the ethics cloud hanging over him.
The House Ethics Committee is reportedly investigating the veteran New York Democrat for failing to pay taxes on his Caribbean villa, and his use of four rent-stabilized apartments in Harlem. Rangel is also accused of using congressional stationery to raise money for a center named after him at the City College of New York.
Congressman Paul Broun (R-Georgia) notes Rangel has admitted he is guilty of tax evasion and multiple House ethics violations.
"We've seen over and over again where Republicans and conservatives have been forced out of their office or have resigned when they've been involved in much less egregious types of errors than Mr. Rangel has," he points out. "So it's time for him to resign his committee chairmanship — and frankly, I think he should resign from Congress."
But Broun forgets that Republicans are part of the Culture of Corruption decried by Nancy Pelosi, whereas brazen crooks like Rangel and Alcee Hastings epitomize the most honest government in history she promised. As for Rangel's constituents, they couldn't care less if Rangel obeys the laws he writes for the rest of us, so long as Whitey gets poked in the eye.

This goes a long way towards explaining the culture and values of the left. Conservatives get rid of their miscreants. The left aid and abet them, helping them cling to their "rightful" position as long as they can.
A note to all public servants, regardless of party affiliation: you are, by definition, in the position you are in to serve the public interest. When you start serving your own interests over the public's, it is time to go. This is also illustrative, BTW, of why government planning and "spreading the wealth" does not result in a socialist utopia, but merely socialism without the utopia. In a capitalist, free-market system, everyone looks out for their own interests; liberals call this evil. In a socialist system, everyone still looks out for their own interests, only now the means of production and distribution are controlled by an elite few in the bureaucracy, who help themselves to as much as they want of whatever they want. The average person has no real recourse, because there is no other option other than what the government offers.
This is not to say that there are no abuses in a capitalist system, or that such a system is always "fair" (for some definition of fair), but that in a free-market system the market, and thus the people, can address the inequities themselves. In other words, it is an opportunity for someone else to fill the demand in the market for better/faster/cheaper/more personal/greener/whatever products and services. Anyone in such a system who abuses their customers for any length of time will not last long-term, as even near monopolies tend to get complacent and lose focus. Look no further than the automakers. This change may not happen overnight, but it will happen. When the government runs the show, it can abuse you for as long as it wants, and nothing short of armed revolution will change that. Look at the DMV for a prime example; if you want to drive, you need a license, and there is only one place to get one, so you'll put up with 3-hour waits and grumpy, uncaring staff or you won't drive.

Republicans get rid of their miscreants? Hardly.
The voters had to do that in 2006 because the republican Congress ethics committee shut down.
The voters did it again in 2008.

I didn't say "Republicans", I said "conservatives." The two terms occasionally overlap, but are not interchangeable. Conservatives do take their misbehaving colleagues to the woodshed. The RINOs we have in Congress now are more accurately called Centrists or Conservative Democrats, having been turfed out of the Democratic Party by the far-left liberals.

This is the guy who is writing our tax legislation.

forest,
I read recently that one of his excuses was that he was unaware that rental income was 'income'. But then that little nuance is probably lost on the person that holds his fate, Nancy Pelosi, who wants to bridge the gap to alternative energy sources by using natural gas... but without drilling.
Man, I feel so comfortable knowing our well-being is in the hands of our best and brightest.

Well, at least he isn't chasing little boys around the capitol, or asking for handouts donations in the john.

I'm a public school teacher. I'm relatively conservative. Today in class, some students were discussing Obama's inaugurtion (ick!!) I said I was going to wear all black that day because I would be in mourning. (like a widow). I said that will be the day our country dies. This is not the first time in my classroom I've expressed my disdain for Obama. I haven't been called into the office yet. Yeah!!! heehee
And in that class (it's a small, advanced class, only 12 students) only one of them is conservative. The rest don't seem to like it when I talk bad about Obama. Coincidently, the one conservative student is the one who does his work, doesn't play around, participates, and reads a novel quietly when he finishes his work early.
The rest of them....it's like pulling teeth to get them to work. They want to discuss their parties, drinking, smoking, etc.... I'm constantly shushing them up and saying "Do not talk about that in class."
They are somewhat smart (in comparison to the rest of the student body), but they don't want to do anything. They think they know it all already, don't need to work, etc.... Already moonbats...in high school!!

First, Andrea, let me say that I agree with you wholeheartedly. Second, do you really think that you should be saying stuff like that to your class. I was really outraged when I saw the video of the teacher that chastised her students for supporting John McCain. Judging by your post, there is a key difference between the two of you in that she was berating an eight year old and I am guessing that your students are students are in high school (smoking, parties, etc) and are a little bit better at making judgements.
Yes, teach them that the poor do not get rich by making the rich poorer. Stress limited government and the importance our founding fathers placed on it. Tell them that every experiment in socialism has ended in failure. Show them examples of tax cuts that actually increased the supply of money into the Treasury, but do not say things like Barack Obama will destroy the country. (he just may) I don't want you, one of the few conservative educators, to be equated with that other teacher.
