As Economy Unravels, Congress Gives Itself a Raise

The boobs in Washington have wrecked the economy for most of us, but not everyone is suffering. Congress is giving itself a pay raise:

A crumbling economy, more than 2 million constituents who have lost their jobs this year, and congressional demands of CEOs to work for free did not convince lawmakers to freeze their own pay.
Instead, they will get a $4,700 pay increase, amounting to an additional $2.5 million that taxpayers will spend on congressional salaries…

The raise must be a reward for setting off the financial crisis by winking at the irresponsible government-sponsored entities Freddie and Fannie in return for massive bribes — I mean, campaign contributions.

To say Pelousy deserves a raise would be something of a stretch.

On tips from nanc and Conan.

What we need in this country is for We The People to select a group to represent of our interest and send them to Washington... say what... we already have one ? Really ? Can we have do overs ?

Our foolosopher kings (PC caveat: don't forget queens and neuters) at work.

Are you guys kidding? Pissed about this? I call it "Voted Out Of Office In 2010 Insurance"!

These morons are so drunk with power they will screw things up so bad there won't be a chance in hell ANY of them will be around.

Obama will take care of the rest.

Onward to 2012!

They can stop auto pay raises, but they won't.

It appears the Democrats and Republicans in former congresses have finally found something that they truly reached across the isle on in this bi-partisan piece of legislation that gives automatic raises

Why can't we physically throw these bums out of Congress? Do we not have the right to dispose of our government if the government seeks to rob us blind and destroy our country?

Yes we do anon, but thanks to McCarthy, that right went away along with the commies.

Our nations facing tough times and our demacrook controled CONgress think they deserve a big fat raise, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS THEY DESERVE TO GET VOTED OUT OF OFFICE EVERY DARN ONE OF THE NO GOOD REPTILES squawk squawk spurwing plover is enraged squawk squawk squawk

I know everyone on this blog is pissed about congress giving themeselves a raise but instead of bitching about it to each other we should email our reps and tell them how we feel about their greedy action. I just did to my representative and I will keep emailing him from now on when congress does something of this greedy nature. Might not do anything but it makes me feel better.

Yes, this chaps my hind-quarters too, but it is like complaining about a grain of sand in your eye during a sand storm.

All of these issues will be moot when the economy collapses. Do you know what our national debt is? Does the number $10.6T mean anything? That's "T" as in TRILLION. To give just a tiny perspective, how thick would a stack of $1 bills be at $10.6T? Can you possibly imagine a stack of bills 10 times the height of the World Trade Center? Of course you can, and that would not be even a tiny fraction of $10.6T. In fact, if instead of stacking it vertically, you laid the stack on it's side, it would go MORE than one time around the earth! A lot more than one time: Try MORE THAN 28 TIMES AROUND the EARTH'S EQUATOR! That's not a typo. TWENTY EIGHT times!

We're headed for a huge fall. As we fall, and our society disintegrates, the leftist despots will seize power, blame capitalism, and rule with cruel iron fists, as we ponder in squalor, "What happened?"

Nothing is too outrageous for the American voter to swallow. Obama will come out and tell the masses it's the right thing to do, their eye will roll in the back of their heads and slobber all over "The One." If they could vote for him, nothing would be surprising from here on in for this country.

Lyle,

You missed a bit. If you throw in all the unfunded pension obligations, welfare obligations, social security obligations, et al, of the Federal Government, the national debt is closer to $60 trillion. I agree with you, the amount in question here doesn't even rate mention as pocket change on a national budget scale. It doesn't even approach "chump" level.

It's the principle of the thing that has everyone ticked off.

Oh, and Dino is still an idiot.

I am not surprised at the political looting. What surprises me is why they haven't been taken out yet-- by the masses who put them there. ...Don't make me laugh, e-mails, phone calls, term limits don't work on these gutless brazen a-holes. Physically removing them will solve the problem. Perhaps I sound like a heretic but I love my country and hate what is being done to us. Those involved in the American Revoltuion faced a similar situation.
