We Lost Long Before Tuesday

Michelle Malkin reminds us that those who still believe in core American principles such as liberty and self-reliance lost the election not on November 4, but when John McLame secured the nomination, effectively locking conservatism out of the race. From her recent piece on how Peggy the Moocher won out over Joe the Plumber:

John McCain's plan for homeowners underwater on their mortgages was even more generous than Obama's.
His $300 billion "rescue" involved directing the Treasury Secretary to "purchase mortgages directly from homeowners and mortgage servicers." That was on top of the trillion-plus-dollar "bank" bailout supported by both presidential candidates, the White House and the Democratic leadership; the $85-plus billion to AIG; the $25 billion to automakers; and the $200 billion in capital and credit lines to Fannie and Freddie. And who knows what else we'll be redistributing to the indebted states of New York, California, Massachusetts, and all the other Peggy the Moochers, large and small, lining up for their piece of the bailout pie.
McCain assailed massive government spending — while promising to heap on more massive government spending to pursue home ownership and retention at all costs. It was the Republican, not the Democrat, who entrusted the Treasury Department to renegotiate individual home loans and become chief principal write-down agents for the nation. Both private and public entities are planning for a McCain-esque homeowner salvation plan for borrowers in the red.
It's a swell idea for everyone who bought overpriced homes with Adjustable Rate Mortgages. Those who rented, bought within their means or locked into fixed-rate loans that they could afford are out of luck, naturally. The only sane thing to do in response? Stop paying your mortgage and get in line.

Hostile as Democrats are to America as a concept, its worst enemies may be those within the Republican Party — centrist statists like Nixon, Bush, and McCain who subvert the GOP into Liberalism Lite, robbing conservatives of a voice. If this election leads to the party being reclaimed by Reaganites, Obama will have to burn the whole country to the ground for it not to be better off in the long run.

anybody but mccain
Maybe this guy was right.

Problem is that Obama may just ended up burning the country to the ground, or allowing others to do it. As wishy washy as McCain was, Obama is scary beyond belief.

Did anyone catch the Bill Oreilly interview with Carl Cameron?

It looks like not only were they right about rejecting McCain but Palin too... in spite of her auto parts store pinup babe-nessness... God I'm getting mean, but you guys said I should listen to Rush and thats where I learned it from...

Oh dear... where will we find another hero... maybe someone can dig up Reagn and get a little DNA and get another

It's bad enough that liberals are trying to turn the US into another socialist failure, but when the only thing there is to stop them is the republicans, and then the republicans start allowing themselves to be led by fools like McAmnesty, then we're really screwed. Barak's victory won't help conservatism but McCain's defeat will.

is it too late to go get a loan on a second or third home we cannot afford and default on it?

bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahaha!

funny thing that - you don't hear people who've spent wisely and protected their assets whining about a thing...'zup widdat?

And people give me shit for voting for Barr.

Posted by: Smoke TNT at November 6, 2008 3:37 PM

Unbunch your panties!

Obama is NOT a liberal. You should have known something was up when the right started supporting him.

It is going to be business as usual. As usual.

There is no voice for the left as there is no voice for the right.

Posted by: Anonymous at November 6, 2008 3:40 PM

Obama isn't a liberal? I suppose you can make yourself believe anything if you try hard enough.

Posted by: Smoke TNT at November 6, 2008 3:58 PM

Fez is actually correct in this. The Republican party tried to serve us a shit sandwich topped with a Palin pickle. When people said Sarah Palin "energized the base", what they really meant is that it helped "soften the blow" of supporting McCain. The people rejected McCain in 2000, So what did the Republican party do in 2008? They ran two northern RINO's, Snoozy Fred Thompson, nutty Ron Paul and John McCain as Presidential candidates.

The people didn't swallow amnesty, and most of the Republican based were pissed off in 2006, which caused the loss of Congress, they haven't learned in 2008 so this
had to happen. The Republican party needs gutting from within, get rid of so called "Compassionate Conservatives" and RINO's like Arnold, and McCain.

People called Fox dicks for stabbing Palin in the back - but they're right! We do not need the Republican party serving up the last rejects in the next election!

One big misstep the McCain team knuckleheads made was deciding proclaim that only small town Americans are real, patriotic Americans.

1. NYC and DC were American enough for Al Quaeda

2. Big Cities have something small towns don't...MILLIONS OF VOTERS

Ron Paul suffered character assassination from almost day 1 of the campaign. Perhaps you should go back and actually do a little research on what Dr. Paul believes. Sure, he believes we should pull out of Iraq....but we should since its time for the Iraqi's to make their own country. We liberated them, not conquered them. Besides, he offered in 2001 and again in 2007 to authorize Letters of Marque and Reprisal against Al Qaeda....which is exactly in line with the Constitution.

Furthermore, Dr. Paul is probably one of the few principled Conservatives left in the Republican Party. He understands the danger the country faces from fiat money courtesy of The Federal Reserve. He also is in favour of obliterating the IRS and shrinking the size, scope and powers of the Federal Government.

Posted by: Brooklyn Red Leg at November 6, 2008 6:23 PM

Character assassination only possible because Uncle Paul is a fucking fruitbasket. BUT HE HAS A COOL BLIMP THOUGH AMIRITE?

As opposed to being a RINO douchebag that makes the government that much more intrusive like McStain let alone our new Socialist-in-Chief Osama Obama the Messiah. Better learn to say 'Zeig Heil' or 'Arbeit macht frei' to our new Overlords.

You know, once a month, my church holds "What We Believe" and "Why we believe" firesides, where members and non-members are invited to come in, in a relaxed environment, and just hear from members of the church why we are members of the church, and what we believe as members of the church.

This would not be a bad model for conservatives or Republicans to begin emulating, although they have to figure out what it is they believe, first.

Posted by: V the K at November 6, 2008 6:49 PM

Well Ron Paul's base of bong-hitters, and college kids did him no favors either -- Perhaps if "Ron Paulians" weren't made up of goose-stepping nazi's or "truthers" then he would have been taken a little more serious - however without any of the above he'd have no base.

Posted by: xantl at November 6, 2008 7:03 PM

That's why I soured on Paul, his supporters were nuckin' futs, and he was pretty out there himself at times. Besides, I thought we would end up with Romney or Thompson and crush Hillary.

Posted by: nobody at November 6, 2008 6:17 PM]

No, I admire her, as well, and I am enraged over the fact that McCain and the RNC are throwing her under the proverbial bus.

The liberals have hated her with a passion since her nomination because she is a real feminist who isn't a baby killing, whining, leftist harridan but who loves her nation, her family and is outdoors sportsman. Governor Palin helped destroy the myth of so-called feminism in this nation, as a result.

Those conservatives who are helping the liberal media ridicule Palin should be ashamed of themselves.

Please, spare me.

Most of you haven't seen a real conservative (read: non Neo-Con) you wouldn't recognize it if it walked up to you and offered to restore the Constitution.

I liked Ron Paul, but, among other things, his loosely based Stormfront ties were quite off-putting. Which sounds absolutely ridiculous now, considering the racist piece of trash that was elected this past Tuesday.

Posted by: Smoke TNT at November 7, 2008 4:07 AM

Yep. Soon as "son of cain" got the anointing, we all knew the GOP had pulled another "bob dole" on us. You know, the "we owe him this" nomination because of his a) age, b) military martyrdom, c) good old boy senate service d) willingness to wink at the leftards across the aisle sort of fella. The GOP is a joke and has been for many years. Now we've got "the borg" to look forward to for the rest of our lives. Remember: "resistance is futile"

Just wanted to give my opinion on this election, as a Catholic.

First off, we Catholics value ALL life, not just the unborn. We even value the lives of brown people. This means we oppose the war in Iraq, and oppose any politician who would seek to increase disparity in America. As abhorent as abortion is to us, we frankly don't think the Republicans actually care about this issue. They talk a lot about it but DO very little. Also, I simply don't believe abortion will ever be illegalized again, I think too many are in favor of it, though I would certainly support any measure that would do so. Therefor though it is an issue I care about, I am not going to vote on that issue alone.

Jesus didn't ASK us nicely to give our wealth to the poor and vulnerable, he COMMANDED it of us. He stated that the love of money is the root of all evil, and that any man who would see a man that lacked what he had and was not moved to help him had no love of God. To most Catholics, this is the most important message Jesus gave us, to care for the poor and give all that we can to ease their suffering. I am not one of those Christians who think "Oh my faith is the only TRUE one and other Christians are bastardizing Christ's message." I realize that different Christians sects have different priorities, and focus on different aspects of biblical teaching. I am just trying to explain MY priorities and how it affected my vote.

A lot of people on this site seem to be confused and think that Obama "tricked" Americans into voting for him, and that just isn't the case. I knew exactly what I was voting for, a man who thinks we should take care of our neighbors. A man who thinks that all humans are intricately connected and that we all ARE obligated to eachother. I know that you do not agree with this and I know that is why you voted for McCain. But I just want YOU to know that we weren't tricked. We knew exactly what we were getting and we WANT a society in which the vulnerable and poor are cared for...even if this means that, unfortunately and inevitably, there will be those who will take advantage of such a system. To me, the fact that some will take advantage simply is not enough of a reason not to make help available for those who genuinely need it.

America wasn't tricked. It's just that YOU GUYS were sure that America was not a nation with the mentality "I am my brother's keeper" and it turns out we actually are.

Posted by: Shana at November 7, 2008 7:31 AM

Um, you people are kidding yourselves about Palin. I am a pro life catholic who ABSOLUTELY agrees with other statements here that it is ridiculous that feminism is so closely tied with being pro choice. It has always angered me that the feminist movement seems to care about nothing else than allowing women to be irresponsible.

But that has NOTHING to do with why I find Palin terrifying. This is a woman who has been unable to answer almost a single question correctly. A woman who did not know what "NAFTA" stood for. A woman who considered "What newspapers do you read?" 'gotcha journalism.' And most importantly; a woman who answered INCORRECTLY when asked on national television "What does the Vice President do?" (her answer "They're in charge of the Senate!!!!")

How on earth can you justify voting in a woman to be vice president when she doesn't even know what the job is?

Posted by: Shana at November 7, 2008 7:43 AM

Shana,
A computer is a luxury, perhaps you should sell yours and buy blankets for hobo's rather than lecturing us on what Jesus "commanded" (I fail to remember where he discussed confiscating other peoples wealth?) Before you go running around the Internet telling people what Jesus decided to do with my money, perhaps you should use yours for the "poor" you espouse so much - " the log in your own eye" and all that jazz.

I love it. Ron Paul is a nutbag cause he has wacky supporters, not because of anything he has said? BTW, you might want to do a little research on exactly what Dr. Paul's base actually is and not the Leftist Media Propaganda douchebags say.

Posted by: Brooklyn Red Leg at November 7, 2008 10:26 AM

Actually, I never said he wasn't nutty - I said his base discredited him too. There is a reason that nutjob "truthers" and groups like stormfront were attracted to him. I don't have to research anything I have seen the base firsthand online and IRL.

Posted by: xantl at November 7, 2008 5:08 PM

McLame was turned by the commies as a POW, sent back to America as an agent. Just look at his record and his campaign. Every time he has a chance to turn on his own party, he does. He is incapable of going after his marxist opponent. I submit we had TWO manchurian candidates running for president.

Shana, you should read Pope Benedict's comments on liberation theology. You are spouting heresy.

Posted by: hana1234 at November 8, 2008 6:54 AM

Jesus didn't ASK us nicely to give our wealth to the poor and vulnerable, he COMMANDED it of us.

Now, show us the part where he went to Rome, and commanded the Cesar to give other people's wealth to the poor.
