The Ultimate Insult

Imagine telling this guy that you voted to make Barack Obama the Commander in Chief, and to give Iraq back to the terrorists.

Anon, He's an American soldier who gave his leg fighting for freedom in Iraq and looks like he has the mettle to do it again.

Talk about insults. Tonight people will make speeches about forgetting the division and now getting together
to work for the good of the country. This has been done about 10,000 times in my experience. The dems get the
republicans to go along with the spirit of bipartisanship (which basically means to assume the position). The republicans are like Charlie Brown and the football. They end up on their back!

Once again, they will sacrifice common sense, honor, and integrity to the mandate of lies. They will shake hands and smile and nod as though they had received a medal when the dems tell them they fought a good honorable fight. Not one republican ever has the courage to say, "My opponent won. He is still a lying, slimy, dishonorable son of a bitch. He is a traitor to the country and should never hold this office. He not only demeans the office. The bastard demeans the American soil he stands on. "

Jim, in what manner have the Democrats gotten the Republicans to "go along with the spirit of bipartisanship"? Since the Dems took control of congress, I believe (I'd have to look it up to be sure), the Republicans set a new record for filibusters, derailing many of the Dems plans (for better or worse). That is why the 60 seat mark has become so important for the Dems, as the Republicans (unlike the Dems)tend to vote on party lines, whereas the Dems have the Blue Dogs, who break ranks at times.

BT, you are so full of crap you squeak when you walk. It was the Democrats who decided to filibuster President Bush's judicial nominations, a tactic that was almost unheard of until Harry Reid.

The Republicans have come out on the losing end of every "bi-partisan" compromise. The Gang of 14 confirmed 3 conservative judges and threw dozens more under the bus. The McCain-Kennedy Immigration bill guaranteed amnesty for illegals in return for weak promises of border security. The Gang of Ten permanently banned drilling in 80% of the continental shelf in return for a little drilling in some other areas... maybe... if PETA approved.

V, I never claimed the Democrats were incapable of filibustering. I simply find the idea that the Republicans are somehow known for rolling over to the Dems as borderline ridiculous. The Democrats in Congress have been about as ineffectual as humanly possible for the last 6 years. If you are upset the Republicans caved on the Gang of 14, fine, but the fact is Alito and Roberts got confirmed, the only one who didn't was the comically under talented Harriet Myers. Regardless, if the Republicans were such saps, how do you explain FISA being re-upped?

Posted by: bt at November 4, 2008 8:38 AM

Maybe FISA was re-upped because Democrats didn't want to have to go back to their constituents and explain why they blocked American intelligence from listening in on terrorist communications. Although apparently many of them were comfortable with leaving the terrorists alone.

Not to mention, the Democrats politicized the war in Iraq and gave encouragement to the enemy to keep killing our troops. In my view, that alone makes them despicable.

And this from Fred Barnes:

There are no strong-minded liberal renegades such as Moynihan in Congress now, and few Democrats inclined, much less willing, to question liberal dogma. And most committee chairs in the Senate and House are liberals.Another important change is the enhanced power of liberal interest groups. The influence of organized labor, environmental activists, militant pressure groups like MoveOn.org, left-wing civil libertarians, teachers, trial lawyers and feminists is stronger than it has ever been in Washington. Democrats are leery of bucking them on even the smallest issue. This was clear in 2005, when the House voted on the innocuous Central America Free Trade Agreement (Cafta). Though the treaty was unlikely to have any impact on American jobs or wages, organized labor opposed it fiercely. Democrats were threatened with union-funded primary opponents if they voted for it. Cafta barely passed, 217-215, with 15 Democrats backing the treaty. The so-called Cafta 15 survived the 2006 election, but that wasn't the end of their ordeal. They're still constantly pilloried at labor gatherings. The attacks have worked, both as a lesson in political harassment for the 15 dissidents and as a warning to other Democrats. Any lingering free-trade sentiment among congressional Democrats has been snuffed out.

V, under the original tenants of FISA, each and every terrorist we wanted to listen in on, COULD be listened in on. The new FISA changed none of that.

No one was comfortable leaving the terrorists alone. No one. FISA was rewritten AFTER 9/11, and covered pretty much everything the administration needed to fight the war on terror. If it hadn't, congress would have gladly given it to them.

Later, the Bush administration wanted to be able to listen in on ANYONE, unfettered. If you are perfectly OK with Obama (assuming he wins today) listening in on your phone conversations, then by all means, congratulations.

I also find the idea that terrorists were only blowing up our troops in Iraq because they thought the Dems were cool with it, bizarre to the extreme.

Posted by: bt at November 4, 2008 9:01 AM

The Dems sent a clear message to the terrorists: "Kill enough of our soldiers and we'll cut and run." A much more encouraging message to the enemy than, "We're in this to win."

bt...you mean like Joe the Plumber
Repeat after me: All Hail the State!
All Hail Obama!

Bt Did you know that you could actually watch congress and the senate on CSPAN? You can hear the speeches! You can see the votes! I suggest that you consider taping it or something. It will help you understand what actually is said and done. The filter of the NYTimes and Couric CBS news etc and their carefully selected liberal items would lead to the conclusions you have drawn. It is quite understandable that you question democrats' absolute partisanship. Even an intelligent person would have problems connecting to reality if they had only about 2% of the information (and that information was predigested to pap).

Of course. It was all about spreading freedom. You don't have to be a republican or a democrat to know that this is bullshit. Wake up America. It's all about big corporations being really good friends with the power that is government (rep. or dem.). The sad thing is : It works every election.
