American Thinker piece on how bipartisanship got us to this point.
I think this piece is dead-on. Bush reached his hand out to the 49% who hated him, and refused to stand up for the 51% who put him in office. There is nothing Bush could have done to sway the haters, and his fecklessness lost him half of his supporters.
These are dire times. We have been defined by our enemies and humiliated by the narrative they have established. Conservatism is seen as "mean" by everyone under 40. Evan Sayet has pointed out how liberal ideas dwell basically in the moral understanding of a five year old. We have ceded almost all areas of society to liberalism - schools, universities, entertainment, even the workplace - yet we still think we can win in politics. Obama didn't run with just the support of the Democratic party, he had the media, the entertainment industry, the schools, the unions, ACORN, MoveOn and countless other leftist political action groups working tirelessly to get him elected. As Mark Steyn wrote yesterday: "(Obama's) victory demonstrates the folly of assuming that folks will continue to pull the lever for guys with an R after their name every other November even as all the other institutions in society become de facto liberal one-party states."
It will be a long march back. We must stop ceding the rest of society to liberalism, and start making a principled dedication to conservative ideals the centerpiece of every campaign. Compromise will lead only to permanent minority status.

Trip down memory lane: What Gore wanted to do to the coal industry with lawsuits and riots, Obama can now do with legislature.

That was awesome, and even with the BarackGround noise, made much more sense than anything Obama's actually said.
