Hugo Chavez is doing wonders for Venezuela.
America: This could be out future. Simply glorious!
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/southamerica/venezuela/3183417/Venezuelas-oil-output-slumps-under-Hugo-Chavez.html
"The state oil company, PDVSA, produced 3.2 million barrels per day in 1998, the year before Mr Chavez won the presidency. After a decade of rising corruption and inefficiency, daily output has now fallen to 2.4 million barrels, according to OPEC figures. About half of this oil is now delivered at a discount to Mr Chavez's friends around Latin America. The 18 nations in his "Petrocaribe" club, founded in 2005, pay Venezuela only 30 per cent of the market price within 90 days, with rest in instalments spread over 25 years.
The other half - 1.2 million barrels per day - goes to America, Venezuela's only genuinely paying customer.
Meanwhile, Mr Chavez has given PDVSA countless new tasks. "The new PDVSA is central to the social battle for the advance of our country," said Rafael Ramirez, the company's president and the minister for petroleum. "We have worked to convert PDVSA into a key element for the social battle."
The company now grows food after Mr Chavez's price controls emptied supermarket shelves of products like milk and eggs. Another branch produces furniture and domestic appliances in an effort to stem the flow of imports. What PDVSA seems unable to do is produce more oil."
"All this means that Venezuela has missed much of the benefit from the oil boom and, now that prices are falling, Mr Chavez faces huge financial problems. Nobody is sure at what point his government would be unable to pay its bills, but most sources consulted believe this would probably happen if oil falls to $80 a barrel. Yesterday, oil was trading at $79.80."
SIMPLY GLORIOUS!!!!

I think I have finally found an explanation for why the media is overwhelmingly leftist AND why they are so in bed with BHO. The leftists see the media as the driving force to allow them to push through their grand socialist vision, Barak al-Hussein bin Obama being the carrier of that disease.
Published around WW2 (by General Motors!), it is a brief look at how totalitarian states come to be. Does it apply today? Well... points one and two talk about coming out of a war and the "national unity" a war provides, but there is no national unity in this war. I'll pick it up at point three:
3. The Planners Promise Utopias. The "social justice" types want to tax the rich more and more. The union-types want to protect their jobs even when it no longer makes sense to. The environmentalists want to make it illegal to do, well, anything. Some want to pursue "alternative fuels." Some want to force people to live closer to cities. These issues are all pushed endlessly by the leftist media.
4. But they can't agree on one Utopia. Ask 5 members of the MSM what our national priorities should be, you'll get 15 different answers.
5. And citizens can't agree either... Once the planners manage to hack a unified plan together, the citizens balk at the result.
6. Planners hate to force agreement... and 7. They try to sell the plan to all... by creating a giant propaganda machine. Does this sound like anything we know? (MSNBC, New York Times, the other leftist media outlets).
8. The gullible do find agreement. and 9. The confidence in "planners" fades. The least educated find themselves swayed by convincing orators (like BHO), who protest the fact that "planners" just can't get anything done. Our Congress has an approval rating of 9%.
10. The "strong man" is given power... and 11. The party takes over the country. In other words, the planners find someone who can push through their utopian vision. Hope and Change. Hope and Change.
12. The negative aim welds party unity. and 13. No one opposes the new leader's plan...In Germany, it was antisemitism. In the US today? Conservatives are evil. Capitalists are evil. Western civilization is horrible and corrupt. And no one opposes the plan because they are bullied and threatened into silence and obedience. Obama's truth squads. Negative press for anyone opposing "the One." The burning and defacing of McCain campaign signs. The media fawning over Obama, trying to convince the public that everyone thinks that way (point 16: Your thinking is planned).
The media and the left (but I repeat myself) are behind this unqualified nobody (BHO) because they see in him the chance to push through their socialist agenda. Obama is idealistic enough to believe that what the left wants will work in the real world rather than just the classroom. He is naive and inexperienced enough to allow the grownups in government to do whatever they want, because he doesn't have the will or personal conviction to stand in their way. He's the ideal puppet - he just wants the fancy title, not the responsibility that goes with it.
I'm not going to suggest that this is some grand conspiracy, because the left isn't generally that forward-thinking. Rather, this is many on the left seizing the chance that has landed in their laps, with many of the points in the link happening either by a nudge from the media or by their own accord. We can't blame Bush for everything, but can blame him for setting much of this in motion, albeit unintentionally. After reading this, it now makes sense why the media is predominantly liberal. The media gives the idealists among us a place to air their views without subjecting them to rigorous tests under real-world conditions. These idealists believe that a Utopia is possible if only we give everyone "free" health care, housing, and a guaranteed job. They believe that what stands in the way of this vision is the greedy, uncaring conservatives who seek only to exploit the masses, not help them. Idealism doesn't cut it in most industries - results are what matter, not what you wished the outcome was. Hence, leftists tend to congregate in fields where the outcome can be - or look - any way you want. Journalism. Academia. Art. Entertainment.
The media is left-leaning because that is the only place most of them can get by. They aren't savvy enough for business, technical enough for the hard sciences, smart enough for academia, or hard-working enough for entrepreneurship. All they have left is their pen and their idealistic vision of the world. And the horrible thing is, it looks like these idiots are about to win, the result of which being we are all about to lose.

Imagine Oil trading at 20 dollars a barrel again. LOL! He'd be boned hard if that happened.

Actually, I think the "left" as an interntional collective unit really IS that forward-thinking. The wall may have come down, and the Soviet Union may have nominally collapsed, but the internationalists, the communists, are still together and still working their plan.
Many things were set in motion in the west during the Soviet era, with very long-term goals and much patience to endure for the long term. Our institutes of higher learning, and indeed our entire educational system have been subverted and undermined. This program has been showing fruit in the ignorance of the youth, particularly as they reach voting age. See the article about those who haven't learned about the past.
The UN is the new home of international collectivism. The AGW hysteria was its latest chosen ploy to chip away at us until that started falling apart, and they haven't given up on that. They just bulldoze forward with programs predicated on their mythical consensus. Now the financial crisis provides them with another wedge to blame capitalism for a problem.
When we have a "journalism industry" which is populated by internationalists of the first order like Walter Cronkite (ironically, this appears to be an anglicization of "Krankheit", german for "sickness"), and an entire generation which is a product of leftist indoctrination, they are ready willing and able to advocate for anything the internationalists advocate.
I think BO is a willing stooge for whatever those who are really directing this are up to, and he provides them a very charismatic figurehead around which to rally support. Remember, the individual must always subordinate himself to the master plan; but there are ways to subordinate oneself that are in accordance with feeding a huge ego.

Expect lefties to find some way to blame this on capitalism. "Speculators" or some-such other vague, scarrrry-sounding evil greedy corporate types undermining Chavez' dedication to providing all oil profits to "the people," where they belong.
Haven't you learned yet, that all failures of socialism are due to capitalism, and all successes of capitalism are due to socialism?
