British Nanny Nazis Ban Sugar in Tea

Posted by Dave Blount at October 14, 2008 10:24 AM

There aren't many things left for nanny state totalitarians to ban in the name of our health. The latest from Britain:

School pupils have been told they can't put sugar in their tea or coffee because it is bad for them.
The decision at Tonypandy Community College in Rhondda, South Wales, follows guidelines from the Welsh Assembly to promote healthy eating. […]
The school said the sugar and sweeteners ban was a result of new guidelines from the Welsh Assembly government to promote health eating.
Headmaster Stephen Parry backed the move to cut down on sugar and salt in the children's diet.
He said it was part of a five-year action plan to 'improve the food and drink consumed throughout the school day'.

A five-year plan. I wonder where they got that idea.

The row over sugar comes after the 'Appetite for Life Action Plan' was launched by the Welsh Assembly to tackle childhood obesity and poor health.
The guidelines sent to education authorities say that tea or coffee should not have any added 'sweeteners, sugar, honey, colouring or flavourings'.
Other guidelines including no salt on tables, no confectionery or savoury snacks to be sold and no butter. […] It was also revealed that tomato ketchup has been banned from school canteens because it contains 'too much salt and sugar'.

How small a box can liberals force us to curl up inside before people start to rebel? If formerly great Britain is any indication, very small indeed.
