Arthur, you hit it right on the head. SO many of the libs I know are stuck in their "we're radical teenagers going up against the Man" mindset. They just cannot let go of Woodstock, Kent State, Haight Ashbury...all of that.

I think part of it is because of the connection with the music and all that went with it. It suddenly means that (gasp) maybe a lot of that was just wishful thinking and downright bullshit. Which it was. "We'll sing and get flowers and change the world." Nope. You won't.

Your post reminded me of a friend I had back in the late 80's; a young conservative who went to Berkeley. He and some others got so fed up with the constant pathetic attempts to recreate the 60's, they organized a "Protest against Protesting". Carrying blank signs, they marched down Telegraph Avenue chanting things like,

"Hey Hey! Ho Ho! Protesting has got to Go!"

"2 - 4 - 6 - 8, Protesting is what we Hate!"

"What do we want? SILENCE! When do we want it? "NOW!"
