I watch the RCP polls daily to compare the effect of events on presidential polling:
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/us/general_election_mccain_vs_obama-225.html
Now we see O up 2 pts overall with last week's market meltdown. Commenters, what is your guess about the polls a week or two from now after the market has bounced back? Will the markets be a controlling factor then as they were now?

Economic distress, or the perception thereof, is perhaps the single most important factor driving voter decisions. Had economic recovery begun 3 months sooner in 1992, George Bush Sr. would likely have been elected to a second term. Unfortunately, the American citizenry is not educated in macro-economics, nor does the average person think about the economy beyond the short term. Case in point: gas prices. At $4/gallon our nation reached a psychological tipping point. Disaster! Although the fundamentals of limited supply and increased demand driven by China and India have not changed, suddenly at $3.50/gallon the crisis has abated. Indeed, a continuing crisis on Wall Street could very well throw the election to the Democrats if the perception, driven by the media, is that "Big Business" (and by extension the Republicans) is at fault. "Corporate greed" is a simplistic explanation, but the idea resonates with the public.
A truthful examination of our economic problems would reveal two factors. Number one, taxpayers are ultimately on the hook for these large bail-outs. That's bad news because raising taxes in a shakey economy could tip us into a long recession. Number two, the other choice is equally bad; the government will start printing money to pay for it all, and the result will be inflationary. The only logical plan would be to slash government spending and hope a growing economy can pay for the damage, but I'm not hearing that from the press.
My best guess is that the next two decades will see a barely growing economy, a fall in living standards, and a long bear market on Wall Street. If there exists a silver lining in all this, my hope is that a resolute America will tighten its collective belt and meet the challenge head on. We have become decadent and lazy; it's time to pay the piper. We will find out over the next 20 years if the American spirit and our founding principles are enough to ensure that we endure as a nation. I think so, but there's never a guarantee.

Agree here, more or less, with V the K: Big O up around 5-6 in a week.
Right after the convention, it looked like McCain might be able to make lemonade out of the lemon (i.e. Repubs in power 8 years, economy soft, war, blah blah blah). But now it looks like the moment has passed.
It's still a long time to the election, and a lot could happen. The debates could change things around. There's still hope, but it's gonna be challenging. McCain doesn't seem to be at the top of his game now. His earmark thingamabob has now been rendered a complete waste of time ($18 billion in total earmarks, which is 1/5 of the cost of the AIG bailout and perhaps 1.5 % of the total cost of the bailout of Wall Street - why bother?) What else does he really stand for, other than giving us Palin? The raging-against-earmarks thing was always ridiculous, a necessary gimmick to steal and cancel Obama's change meme, and was likely to be (and now has been) rendered worthless and uninteresting by real events. I think the maverick/reformer meme is in real trouble vis-a-vis the Wall Street situation. Who cares about reforming "corruption" in some generic self-righteous sense as McCain positions it, while the govt is off spending a trillion of our actual money and socializing entire industries? Suddenly there's real shit to deal with, and the the "maverick" thing appears.....sloganistic, empty, kinda (and I hate to say it) stupid. So, one must ask, what else has he got? That's a problem. Don't get me wrong - I am as solid in the Republican column as anyone could be, but it's now clear that McCain has to pull another Palin-level rabbit out of the hat if he wants to win this thing.
McCain is a good man, a hero, patriot, and he's got a great VP, but he is indeed standing in front of a moving train, and his game plan from a few weeks ago is not holding up. Time for Plan B, if he's got one. A really good start would be to say something substantive and serious about economic matters. I cannot overemphasize that enough - this country is not going to elect the war hero for being a war hero, while the perception is that the financial system is in dire crisis (a perception I believe is false - it's more like an extortion racket by traders to get the public treasury emptied into the stock market and banks, but that's neither here nor there). McCain has GOT to get out there and be substantive on economic policy, and fast.
Posted by: mega at September 20, 2008 4:38 PM
Mega thank you for an outstanding post. I certainly wouldn't expect to see that on Kos.
You emphasize the strategies McCain should follow to increase Republican votes. I think he will have them regardless. I feel hatred and polarization is so high right now - in my case at least - that I wouldn't care if the Republican candidate was dead; we know the evil we are voting against.
V the K's Drumbeat of Marxism link above is a truly chilling reminder of what we are fighting against; the slow death of our country and culture from Moonbats. And I fear that we are not winning at the moment, or at least enough.

I've been listening to Rush this week while on the road and I am just tickled that Obama decided to try and attack McCain using misquotes from Rush.
Rush has pointed out Obama's pure and intentional lies and is beating him over the head with it. Obama is so smug and thinks he's so smart but Rush has this douchebag Obama's number and he isn't about to let up until he is demoted from Presidential candidate back to junior Senator.
I hope more people hear what Rush is saying. I believe I would rather have Jimmy Carter as President again before this assclown Obama and I'm even from Illinois, lol.

WOODY ALLEN, ARBITER OF MORALITY
This is priceless. Allan Stewart Konigsberg, aka, Woody Allen, has thrown his support to Barack Hussein Obama for president of the United States: http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=080919193927.ite7zfed&show_article=1.
Apparently with a straight face, Hollywood’s most heralded movie director of movies that virtually no one ever sees, Mr. Konigsberg-Allen said, “It would be a disgrace and a humiliation if Barack Obama does not win,” reports Breitbart.com.
“It would be a very, very terrible thing for the United States in many, many ways,” he said. Democratic hopeful Obama, Allen said, is “so much better” than Republican rival John McCain, and “represents a huge step upward from (the) … misjudgement” of the Bush administration.“It would be a terrible thing if the American public was not moved to vote for him, that they actually preferred more of the same,” he added.
Let’s see, now. Konigsberg-Allen joins such other Left Coast political analysts as Barbra Streisand by offering his insightful views on “disgrace…humiliation…[who is] better [for America],” on “incompetence and misjudgement,” and on who is “very, very, terrible…in many, many ways.”
Aside from severe redundancy,...

Travelling sucks!
I’m not even talking about real travelling here, some of which we will be doing next month. I’m talking about minimalist travel of just a few hours, which is bad enough for both mind and body.
(The joy of air travel is explored on such websites as http://www.eturbonews.com/3926/why-air-travel-sucks-explanation but I’ll postpone my new insights on that topic for another month.)
We’re told that traveling is broadening and if by that is meant that it increases the waistline due to regular restaurant eating and lack of regular exercise, then I would agree. Other than that, it just sucks rather than “broadens” anything I need broadened.
I know people who travel of necessity throughout the country and to such places as Hong Kong and India and they pretty much agree that travel is up there near a bad case of hemorrhoids as a pleasant experience.
Case in point was my partial weekend minimalist travel to Yankee Stadium, a bittersweet exercise, via mass transportation to White Plains, New York from eastern Long Island, New York.
If one enjoys shelling out relatively good money for exorbitant fares to support people such as ticket takers whose prime skill is punching pieces of paper and garbling announcements for the purpose of confusing already confused travellers, then, I guess you would enjoy it.
Personally, I think the Long Island Railroad and Metro North should lay out the cash for robots which would do the job far more efficiently and not cost up to $80,000. per annum, plus bennies, even if that robotization would cause an MTA strike, which it would.
So, we muddle along and pay through the nose to watch the ticketmeisters punch away and drop tiny, little chads all over the floor of already hygienically-challenged train cars and watch track workers by the dozens lean on their picks and shovels, puff away on their Camels, and not even wave to the hapless passengers chugging by. The latter don’t give a travel damn anyway since they’re loudly chattering away about trivia on cell phones.
Then again, it beats the experiences of many international travellers, such as those who spend 20+ hours on a Delta flight to do their thing in New Delhi or in Hong Kong.
Those India sojourners, who stay in “five star hotels,” can look out their windows and see how Indian commoners spend their days, in hovels that would make Obama’s Kenyan half-brother feel fortunate, relatively. Those locals can also watch skinny bovines stroll by and plop where they wish as they scratch for roots to eat so they can live another day.
Hong Kong visitors dare not venture out too far into the hinterland or, God forbid, to mainland China where they can see how little the average China citizen benefitted from the Beijing Olympics.
NEXT: The joy of visiting, however briefly, the new City of Babel, still known as New York, and the joyless visit to the Cathedral of Baseball, the Temple of the Greats, Yankee Stadium. Mayor Bloomberg and Company have decreed that that cathedral, that revered House that Ruth Built, shall be reduced to rubble in the interests of progress.
As much as travel sucks, that decision sucks immeasurably more. Even Yankee haters should agree.

They call themselves Christians...they have giant cross on their building....they believe in the same god you do,,,they read the same holy book you do...If Christianity and the Bible is so clear and consistent as a code for living, why is there so much disagreement and confusion among the dozens of Christian sects as to how to interpret "the word of god"?

Harry Reid says: Congress doesn't know what to do
The Democratic-controlled Congress, acknowledging that it isn't equipped to lead the way to a solution for the financial crisis and can't agree on a path to follow, is likely to just get out of the way.
Lawmakers say they are unlikely to take action before, or to delay, their planned adjournments -- Sept. 26 for the House of Representatives, a week later for the Senate. While they haven't ruled out returning after the Nov. 4 elections, they would rather wait until next year unless Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke, who are leading efforts to contain the crisis, call for help.
One reason, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said yesterday, is that "no one knows what to do" at the moment.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT LEFTISTS?
As a former liberal, albeit going back to 1960 when I was a callow college freshman and supported Jack Kennedy even though I wasn’t old enough to vote for him mainly because he was of Irish extraction, I once thought liberalism was liberal.
And what 18 year old wasn’t, both callow and “liberal?”
As Churchill wisely pronounced, “If you’re not Liberal when you’re 25, you have no heart. If you’re not Conservative when you’re 35, you have no brain.”
Even if that Winnie quotation is now being challenged by liberals more interested in parsing and qualifying rather than truth, http://www.phrases.org.uk/bulletin_board/33/messages/799.html, who really cares? The sentiment still holds.
I much prefer the sentiment that libs only become conservatives then they are mugged.
Back fifty years ago, Jack was a liberal even if he was past 35, but he was an old school lib. He served and loved his country and thought his country the greatest nation on the planet, even if he did slip and say he was a jelly donut to Germans when he said, Ich bin ein berliner in 1963....

Anon, it's one thing to say you're a Christian, and have all the outer appearances of a Christian; It's quite another to actually live like a Christian.
True Christians are NOT into those kinds of things in the article. And, no, they are not 'Typical' Christians either, for that reason.
You and Tommy were just being hateful and prejudiced towards Christians with that article.

"sounds like pretty typical Christians to me. "
"why is there so much disagreement and confusion among the dozens of Christian sects as to how to interpret "the word of god"?"
You've missed the fact there is no such thing as a typical christian. We are not a monolithic homogeneous mass despite the attempts of you leftists to portray us as that. Christians cover everything from mennonites to catholics to anglicans to baptists to those slightly weird christians in ethiopia who live in caves.
NEVERTHELESS...
Nevertheless, there are certain things consistent with identification as a christian in the broader sense. Following the commandments, refraining from sexual immorality and refraining from 'worldly' behaviour such as sensualism or gluttony or what have you. I would say that sexual abuse of children falls under the general category of "not a christian thing to do". Wouldn't you? Therefore these people are not christians.
A christian may be saved by grace but that doesn't absolve him of reponsiblity for his actions - and in fact reinforces that. If a christian repeatedly commits a sin, knowing it is a sin, and refuses to stop, beg for forgiveness from God and the people he sinned against then he has no right to call himself a follower of christ. And so neither do you have that right, because calling those people "christian" is simply a lie.

"sexual abuse of children falls under the general category of "not a christian thing to do". Wouldn't you? "
Well, given the astounding number of Christians, both fringe and mainstream, who engage and/or defend this kind of behavior, i'd say it's not as clear cut as you portray.
Christianity has been used to defend, murder, sexual perversion, pedophilia, slavery, apartheid, genocide etc...by all types of Christians throughout all times. I'd say Christians using their belief to defend immoral behavior is pretty commonplace and a fundmaental charcteristic of a large portion of those calling themselves Christians.

I've seen how irreligious people are, shallow, self-involved, petty, selfish, arrogant. These are the natural fruits of having no higher law beyond one's own selfish interests. Bill Maher and Sandra Bernhardt are the quintessence of this lifestyle.

your little book of rules and morality seems to be pretty useless if you can't seem to agree on how to intepret it.
Aren't you lot always on about how each man has his own truth? I thought you'd be quite keen on the idea of re-interpreting the scriptures to suit your own perceptual reality... or ist hat a privilege only allowed to those who stick to your world view?
The fact that the bible is difficult to interpret is because it is old, and written in a different language. And, apart from the Big 10, it's written by man. There's a reason we call it the inspired word of god. Inspired by god but written by the fallible hand of man, and consequently imperfect and in need of a certain amount of interpretation. Even the most adamant of christian evangelists will admit quite freely that, whilst the word of god is inerrant, we humans are highly susceptible to making mistakes.
So what are you trying to prove, then? Because, again, christians are not all the same, and so the claim that some people are christian, therefore all christians are in some way like them, doesn't hold water.
People have used all sorts of things to defend their behaviour. Appeal to authority for defence of immoral behaviour is a very common human trait, and the fact that christians do it is not particularly unique. Nor, let it be said, does it make them more or less wrong for doing so.

There is only one religion who has like all others, both gooddoing and evildoing members, that proclaims in it's very doctrines all that Christianity teaches is evil. That is Islam. Christianity proclaims peace and love and justice and hatred of sin.
The generosity of Christians has built FREE hospitals around the globe and all are welcome to be treated. Christians sacrifice their lives for others, even those who are not their own. Seen any Pagan sacrifice other than their own unborn children?
Only Christians are openly persecuted today. And they are persecuted and murdered by people like the cowardly Anonymous. And by the way, Anonymous, Bill Baher is an apostate from the true Faith and his religion is antichrist. That is yours as well as you too persecute Christians.
Ponder that the next time you are standing in line at an Atheist soup kitchen.

Fine, then why may you generalize about all other world relgions in precisely this manner. One Mulsim blows himself up, so all muslims are suicide bombers...right? One liberal says something hateful, all Liberals are hateful. These type of generalizations are what this blog is based on! Funny that you get your knickers all twisted when it's your beliefs under attack.
The truth is your religion MAKES NO LOGICAL SENSE at all. That's why it's hard to imtepret. It's friggin non sensical gobbdely gook that you are attempting to impose your subjective meaning on. The fact that even Christians can't agree on the VERY BASICS of the faith, prove that it's value is limited.
You toss of thousands of years of murder, oppression, torture and genocide in the name of Christianity as mere misinterpretation. If it as easy to twist the meaning of the Bible as you say it is, I'd say, it's a pretty meaningless book...Time you all found another, clearer code to live by, because the one you've got isn't worth much...

This is all the fault of the jews, may the human swine burn, twist and rot in hell. They set up the financial house of cards just to knock it down then swoop in and buy up everything cheap. It's their game, it is how they enslave nations. The jews have been kicked out of dozens of host nations over the last 500 years, and it's not because of their religion, it is because of things such as THIS.
The greatest threat to America, are the preachers saying the jews are our friends and that we should defend them. Just a warning - the jews are doing the pushing of multicultralism on the Nations they hold sway in. It is the jews who are orchestrating these wars and expect you to go and die like good goyium. Israel does not allow multicultralism within it's boarders, also they defend their boarders while they open ours... why? Because a mixed up country of many races is easier to CONTROL.
It IS the jews... it is the jews. Please do research on the internet NOW while you are able, if you do not believe. We've had a knee-jerk reaction brain washed into us to respond with fear and rage when people critisize the jews of all people... why? Ask yourself why, they are not any more important than you or I. Then go and count the number of newspapers, television stations, porn companies and finiancial instititions run by jews and let the truth sink in.
LOOK into it, don't allow a knee-jerk reaction rule you and blind you to the truth about these parasites of the world. Homosexuality, race-mixing and abortion are good for the goyium, it makes them small, confused populations of controllable sheep. Everything the dual-citizenship jews are pushing on America they push to keep OUT of israel. Why? Because these things are destructive. And they know it.

Bravo, bucko, for showing us what Christianity really teaches, and what kind of people Christians really become.

Honestly, who cares? Did we ask your opinion about religion? I don't like liberalism... does that mean I should go to liberal blogs and rant about how much they suck? Personally, I have better things to do; they don't care about my opinion, nor should they.
Some anti-semitic idiot shows up here and you can't WAIT to pull out your broad brush and start tarring ALL Christians with the same anti-semitism. Then, to top it off, you use that same brush to label all of us as "anti-Muslim." You are as much a bigot as Bucko, above.

Hmm, the knee-jerk reactions are in full effect, as usual. If you have the guts to face the truth, then research the jews and learn the TRUE facts about them. The jews have been a disgrace and a leech on other nations as long as the Khazars first converted to judiasm and began passing themselves off as "the chosen".
They are the destroyers and perverters of healthy nations, only a blind fool doesn't realize that at this point. Quit the israel butt-kissing and take a good hard look at them instead of parroting what they've taught you via the tv to say about them. Jews are harmless, helpless sweethearts without a terrible bone in their bodies, correct? Google the Talmud, and the protocols of zion, and you will finally have a clue about them and why everything is going so horribly wrong for the first time in your life, because now you will know WHO and WHY this is being done.

I lived for 30 years believing the jews were innocent people, until I had the guts to take a look at the facts of history. How about giving it a try? Five years later I know more than I care to about boring old "history" and what the jews have done to the world.

Our cowardly anonymous troll shows only his ignorance of Christianity by attacking the caricatures enemies of the church have made. If he ever spent time in a community of faith learning about Christianity from actual Christians, he would have no cause to be so hateful. 0

Man oh man, you just can't make up pure, undiluted STUPID like our good friend "Bucko." I'm not sure if you're serious about this insipid hatred you feel, or if you're just trolling, but either way you're an amusing little retard. Stick around, Bucko.

i have not expressed hatred towards any Christian individuals here. I have maintained a pretty even tempered tone.
I have simply pointed out that your religion is a crock, maybe one of the greatest con games of all times, and that you are suckers for believing it. I haven't called for death, disfigurement, and destruction of Christians, as many others here have called for regarding other equally ridiculous "faiths". I have not hurled invective. I have merely pointed out that your relgion is responsible for much more harm than good.
The fact that you don't agree with this has even brought one christian poster to equate me to a murderer, another poster openly and proudly spews nazi rhetoric about the Jews, another Christian bashes the Mulsims. In a previous thread about sandra Bernhard one nice Christian poster argues that she should be beaten to death, another calls her a filthy whore. I could go on and on.
Yet I am the one filled with hate? You people....are just a joke.

i have not expressed hatred towards any Christian individuals here.
No hatred, eh?
"Bravo, bucko, for showing us what Christianity really teaches, and what kind of people Christians really become."
You implied that Christians "become" antisemitic nutjobs like "Bucko." That's an insult to each and every Christian that posts here, not one of whom has thus far expressed even the slightest antisemitism. (And no, I don't count "Bucko." He's just a drive-by troll.)
I have maintained a pretty even tempered tone.
No, you are as irrationally hate-filled as the Nazi troll above. You just choose a different target.
I have simply pointed out that your religion is a crock, maybe one of the greatest con games of all times, and that you are suckers for believing it.
WHO CARES WHAT YOU THINK?!? Do you somehow think you've managed to stumble onto some truth that has thus far evaded humanity? Do you believe you're wiser, more rational?
I haven't called for death, disfigurement, and destruction of Christians, as many others here have called for regarding other equally ridiculous "faiths".
One can hate without calling for death. Even Bucko doesn't call for the death of Jews.
I have not hurled invective. I have merely pointed out that your relgion is responsible for much more harm than good.
You called Christians antisemites. That's invective. You called people's faith "the enemy of rational thought." That's invective. You've said the average Jew is smarter than the average Christian. That's invective.
The fact that you don't agree with this has even brought one christian poster to equate me to a murderer, another poster openly and proudly spews nazi rhetoric about the Jews,
Which you promptly turned around as focused on the Christians. You're closer in ideology to Bucko than anyone else here.
another Christian bashes the Mulsims.
Even if someone "bashes" Muslims, how does that justify your hatred of Christians? Mind your own behavior first.
Let me ask you a question, Anonymous... what religion am I? C'mon, tell me. If I "bash" Muslims, what religion does that make me then?
In a previous thread about sandra Bernhard one nice Christian poster argues that she should be beaten to death,
You mean this quote by Walt235? "That bitch needs to be beat to death with a baseball bat, but over a several hour period!" How do you know what religion Walt is, Anonymous? Has he professed Christianity? You simply assume he is a Christian.
another calls her a filthy whore.
(sigh) Bernhard called Sarah Palin a whore, said that she should be gang-raped. Do you not understand irony when you see it? In any case, you certainly show no outrage about Bernhard's remarks in that thread. Would it be fair to say that liberals are in favor of gang-rape of their opponents based on her comments?
I could go on and on.
I noticed you go on an on.
Yet I am the one filled with hate?
Yes. You are the one filled with hate. You and Bucko both.
You people....are just a joke.
Oh dear, an anonymous, hate-filled internet troll doesn't like us. What-ever shall we do? Feel free to leave, Anonymous. No one is asking you to be here, you have nothing but contempt for the people who post and comment here, so there's the door. If you decide to stay, then at least stop whining when someone challenges your beliefs. It's unpleasant.
(And will you get a frikkin' screen name? It's hard to argue with someone who goes by "Anonymous.")

The curious bit is, if one rejects the Creator, and embraces the current scientific model by which the universe arouse out of nothing, for no reason, and everything that is was spontaneously generated from nothing... that is also a pretty substantial leap of faith.
Especially since the observable universe seems to contradict acausal cosmology. This is why scientists are constantly coming up with exotic theories like dark matter, dark energy, multidimensional realities and the like. Scientists have no physical proof that these things exist, but they insist that they must exist, because otherwise their cosmological models don't work.
However, by rejecting God, one also rejects morality, rejects the notion of higher law. All that remains is to satisfy the self. That is where evil happens.

V the K:
Please don't play Anonymous' game. He's TRYING to start a religious argument, because it will distract everyone from his irrational hatred of Christians.
And I'd have to start arguing with you too, since I'm an agnostic and read a lot of the current scientific theory. And I really don't have time; I really need to wash the car, get my hair cut, go grocery shopping, and do all of the chores I put off yesterday.

I'm not really addressing Anonymous. If a guy is too cowardly to sign his own posts, why bother. But there are other, more thoughtful people, participating in this thread.

"Christianity has been used to defend, murder, sexual perversion, pedophilia, slavery, apartheid, genocide etc...by all types of Christians throughout all times."
No, it hasn't. In fact, as for slavery, a lot of the most outspoken members of the abolitionist movement both in America and abroad have been from the evangelical Christian groups. Watch the movie 'Amazing Grace' to get an idea of what I'm talking about.
"How do you know Bill Maher and Sandra Bernhardt are not religious people?"
Bill Maher has made it quite clear on several occasions that he is an atheist, and has nothing but hatred and contempt for believers. He is about to release a hate- mongering documentary film called "Religulous," which is all about portraying everyone who believes in God as a brainless nutcase.
Don't rely on Bucko to gain an idea of what Christians are like, or of what this board is like. I've never seen Bucko on this board before, and I hope to never see him again, confirming Otto's dismissal of him as a "Drive- by Troll." We get lots of them here, such as him and you yourself. They come by to try and stir up the pot and get people angry, but usually they don't stick around for too long because we try to avoid and ignore their vile comments. I am far from an anti- Semite, in fact one of my best friends is half- Jewish. Bucko is as ignorant and hate- filled as you are.
Sorry to disappoint you, Anon, but I am a Christian. I'm sticking to it, and sticking to the Bible. In fact, I am in my second year of seminary so that I may enter the ministry. While I may be embarassed at those who would pervert the faith or use it as a smokescreen for their unChristian actions (Both centuries ago, and days ago), I know from experience that they are only a very slight minority, and the vast majority of Christians (In fact, you could almost say "Typical Christians," if you went along with such a stereotypical and ignorant statement) are good, decent people who desire to serve God and help others. I honestly don't care what you have to say, or what venom you spew against those who believe in God.
If all you are going to contribute to this blog is more crude, midless hate- mongering, then please leave and don't come back.

Anyone else here a former atheist? I was an atheist most of my life, until my mid-thirties, where I suddenly had a bit of the C.S. Lewis-style epiphany. I became a Christian (although I'm not a creationist, or a believer in Biblical inerrancy, but I won't get into all that).
As a former atheist, I gotta say: atheists aren't Nazis. They aren't bad people. They just don't get it, and often grow up in an environment that doesn't want them to get it, or they have negative experiences with the church or Christians which isn't about God so much as it is those fallible humans, but makes assumptions that "God shouldn't allow this or that if there really is a God" and so on.
But it's not because atheists are evil. At the same time, I don't get the left's burning desire to make Christian's out into caricatures of evil and stupidity (which I blogged about in You Christian's are Stupid and We Hate You) or that belief in God makes things worse (Belief in God is bad for Society).
Jewish conspiracy folks can get bent, however. They are so transparently crazy, I can't even fully believe they actually take themselves seriously. But I guess they do.

The only polls that matter are the ones the week before the election. Up until that point, the polling companies will weight them to try an portray momentum for Obama.
Which is not to say Obama can't win--clearly he can--but he's got an uphill battle, and there's no guarantee people are not feeling pressured by race and political correctness to respond to polls in certain ways, when they won't feel the same obligation when they get in the voting booth.
I'm just saying.

And as far as this 'Anonymous' jackwad goes... well, I could say the same things about YOUR religion, and it'd be more true. Libs worship at the altar of 'secular humanism' and 'social justice', and what has that got humanity? Hmmmm... 200,000,000 dead people in the last century. 'Typical' christian? By your own logic, a typical leftist hangs out at the Folsom Street 'Fair', gives blowjobs to random passers-by, and jerks off on strangers. Hey, I've seen the pics... these lefties do it, so ALL lefties must be like that... right? RIGHT???
No, I'm not a christian. I know too much about the history of Christianity to take it at face value as it's taught. I do, however, recognize it as the most powerful force for good in the last two millenia, right or wrong. Yes, there have been those who twisted it into something evil over the years.... but they weren't 'typical' of christians.
Liberalism, on the other hand, takes considerable twisting and distortion to make it GOOD. Decent left-wingers are the exception, not the rule. Shall I point out all the murders, starvation, poverty, and simple pure evil caused by actually adhering to liberal policies & not by distorting them? Ask a Ukrainian about the harvest of 1933 for further discussion of how 'good' liberals are, particularly when they try to 'help' for 'the common good'.

THE NAKED CITY BETRAYS ITS HERITAGE: THE END OF YANKEE STADIUM
The old and gritty ”Naked City” television series invariably closed with, “There are 8 million stories in the naked city. This has been one of them.”
That naked city, of course, was and still is New York City, the city that never sleeps, the crown jewel of the Empire State, but it’s a very different and very tarnished jewel today. The following is another story about the Naked City.
It’s now a Manhattan city predominantly populated by the rich and the poor where the former can browse Fifth Avenue shops and sleep in Madison Avenue duplexes and the latter can sweep that avenue and clean those duplexes. There are four other boroughs but they have always been considered city step children.
We’ve heard a great deal about change this election year and change can be a good thing. Change for the mere sake of change is rarely a good thing. Nor is change which incorporates alterations that negate the good that existed before and such is the case with New York.
New York City is a place one either loves or hates. There’s little middle ground. There’s much to be admired and much to be despised. Never really a melting pot despite what we’ve been led to believe, it has now become a new city of Babel where new immigrants not only do not blend into the whole but revel in their differences and act in ways that set them apart, from flaunting traditions they refuse to change to an English language they refuse to speak.
The city is a prime example of diversity run amuck, where a cacophony of tongues can make a casual visitor believe he could be in Calcutta or Mexico City or Chungking or Nairobi–all at the same time.
Personally, I could do without unnecessary change and I especially could do without the recent changes in New York. One major change I regret is one that is happening this weekend in the northern borough of the Bronx where the city fathers and the Steinbrenner family have conspired to destroy one of the most iconic buildings in New York City, Yankee Stadium.
One of the crown jewels of the crown jewel that is New York, Yankee Stadium is a place both built out of necessity and built for spite, yet the result was magnificently breathtaking in its time.
The New York baseball team, the Giants and their Polo Grounds had welcomed the struggling enterprise that was the Yankees, knowing they could not overshadow the Giants. That all changed after the Boston Red Sox sold a hearty fellow, an outstanding pitcher and hitter named George Herman “Babe” Ruth to Yankee owner Jacob Ruppert and, as they say, the rest was history.
After Ruth began hitting baseballs which had the consistency of a rolled up sock into the bleachers, the Giant welcome mat was removed. The House that Babe Ruth almost literally built was erected in barely a year directly and visibly across the Harlem River from the Polo Grounds, a provocative in-your-face move by Ruppert. It opened in 1923, eighty five years ago, and will shut its gates permanently after tonight’s game.
This is not intended as a history of Yankee Stadium but rather more as a dirge for the foolishness of New York City in planning to destroy what is undeniably a national baseball monument...

I'm not saying anything against Christianity at all... quite the contrary; if anything I'm defending it. It it, by far, the most powerful force for good that the world has ever seen.
I'm a non-christian, but not anti-christian. I disagree with the theological tenets of the religion in almost all of it's forms, but not the essential morality that those tenets produce in its' adherents.
Overall, Jesus has been a good thing. I'm glad that he was here, I'm glad that a lot of people agreed with what he had to say, and I'm glad that the religion which he became the basis of has flourished and grown. I just don't worship him.

Slick Willie's policy advisor says Uh-bama not very slick speaker
Bill Clinton's policy adviser William Galston is frustrated with Barack Obama.
But to me his most interesting comment is this:
Your stump speech is too long and discursive. It shouldn’t last more than fifteen minutes, it should focus on your agenda, not today’s news story, it should feature short, declarative sentences, and it should leave no doubt about what you care about the most.
Galston is raising a question I have wondered about, too. How good is Obama as a speaker?
Clearly he can be inspiring and his technique is superb, particularly his autocue technique. He is able to make truly brilliant speeches.
And compared to McCain he is Demosthenes. But, in the immortal words of Chris Dillow, that is like being a better violinist than Abu Hamza.

Counter-dhimmitude by Swift Company
Grand Island meatpacking plant fired at least 86 workers Friday after they walked off the job amid a dispute over prayers during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, company officials said.
But a Muslim leader and one of the fired workers said 150 Muslims lost their jobs.
JBS Swift & Co. spokeswoman Tamara Smid confirmed 86 firings late Friday, saying the employees were terminated earlier that day for repeatedly leaving work without authorization. She would not give any other details, including whether anyone else had been fired.
Mohamed Rage, who leads the Omaha Somali-American Community Organization, said 80 workers were thrown out after an altercation late Thursday. He says when they tried to return for their shift Friday, they were fired, along with 70 others.
Farah said tension had been building in recent days with Latino workers, who started protesting when they saw the Muslim workers leaving for break. Farah said the Latino workers started shouting and beating on their tables.
Two women, one 19 and another in her 40s, and a 20-year-old man fainted during the commotion because they had gone so long without food, Farah said. During Ramadan, Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset.

FBI officially investigates Obama supporter for hacking Palin's email
The FBI is stepping up its investigation into the possibility that a University of Tennessee student hacked into the personal e-mail of Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
A person who identified himself as a witness tells 10 News that agents with the FBI served a federal search warrant at the Fort Sanders residence of David Kernell early Sunday morning. Kernell lives in the Commons apartment complex at 1115 Highland Ave.
David Kernell is the son of Mike Kernell, a Democratic state representative from Memphis.

MSM resorts to making up racists to bolster Obama
An article in the St. Petersberg Times, quotes Cichon as having said, “I can't imagine having a black president . . .”
In a phone interview Saturday, Sandra Cichon of Spring Hill, Florida denied that she ever spoke with any pollster or reporter concerning Obama or about anything regarding race. Cichon was taken by surprise when phoned by this reporter, and she was not aware that she had been quoted in any newspaper.
The article fails to name the pollster who claimed to have called Cichon. When asked during my phone interview, Cichon denied speaking to any pollster on the phone.
Cichon explained that the only time she spoke with a reporter was in August when she went to vote in the county commission races. She said that he (the reporter) seemed nice and she gave him a catalogue for gift baskets.
Sandra Cichon was asked during my interview today if she had asked the reporter if he would like a fresh batch of “Obama Waffles” ?
Cichon responded, “Why would I ask a reporter about waffles? This is crazy. I never spoke to any reporter about Obama. I’m going right down to the St. Petersburg Times and demand a retraction!
Times Editor, Adam Smith was asked if he had heard that Cichon had offered the reporter “Obama Waffles?” Smith said he was not aware of that quote.

OBAMA’S SLIME AND SMUT MACHINE GOES ON AND ON AND ON…
Politics isn’t always a dirty business. It becomes an obscenely filthy business when practiced by the Obama/Biden campaign.
This agent of change tries to keep its dirty hands clean by employing surrogates to perform its dirty work and in 2008 those obedient surrogates are doing a simply mahvellous job.
Thus, Saturday Night Live suggests a whole lotta incest is going on between Todd Palin and his pretty daughters: http://wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=75852.
“What about the husband?” asked a Times reporter during a mock assignment meeting for the paper. “You know he’s doing those daughters. I mean, come on. It’s Alaska.”
The assignment editor for the Times…responded: “He very well could be. Admittedly, there is no evidence of that, but on the other hand, there is no convincing evidence to the contrary. And these are just some of the lingering questions about Governor Palin.” Hey, anything for a laugh, right? By the way, did SNL run a skit about Chelsea really being Vince Foster’s love child? And who else but Dem candidate for a Minnesota United States Senate seat, Al Franken, could dream up such smut? (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0908/13684.html)
Meanwhile, a “small army” of Dem lawyer hacks descends on Palin’s hometown of Wasilla, Alaska to attempt to dig up dirt about the Palins: http://hotair.com/archives/2008/09/09/obamas-wasilla-airborne/. (That site also debunks the slander, innuendo, and outright lies about Palin.) The hope of the lawyers is to find some evidence that a teenage Sarah made out with a Wasilla High School quarterback in the back seat or, more likely in their sick, liberal minds, that she had a back alley abortion in elementary school.
Why not call label Palin an adulterous slut? That was the advice...

Bush called for reform of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac 17 times, ignored by Dem-controlled Congress
For many years the President and his Administration have not only warned of the systemic consequences of financial turmoil at a housing government-sponsored enterprise (GSE) but also put forward thoughtful plans to reduce the risk that either Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac would encounter such difficulties. President Bush publicly called for GSE reform 17 times in 2008 alone before Congress acted.
Unfortunately, these warnings went unheeded, as the President's repeated attempts to reform the supervision of these entities were thwarted by the legislative maneuvering of those who emphatically denied there were problems.
