Obama "Truth Squads"
The Show Me state shows us a glimpse of our totalitarian future: "Truth Squads" are clamping down on people who say things Obamunists don't want to hear. Local law enforcement officials are involved throughout Missouri.
Citizens are obliged to believe that Obama is a Christian who wants to cut taxes. Failure to agree with these dubious assertions is regarded as "divisive" — i.e., verboten.
If you're not scared yet, you should be.

When Obama is president, we are going to have camps for racist hatemongers like you that disagree with dear leader! We are going to break down the doors to your church and force you intolerant bigots to watch gay men having sex with each other and goats, and if you don't like it you are a racist that will go to an tolerance education camp! We are going to take away the guns so there will be no more violence! Hail Obama! Hail Obama! Hail Obama!
When Obama is president, you people that make immoral amounts of money at the expense of the poor will be made to pay your fair share. We will give your hard earned savings to the bums and neversweats that have been oppressed!

So, will they get me (and my accountant) if I accurately state that the Democrat tax plan will raise my taxes? I've said it before and I will say it again, that plan (HR 3970) will raise my tax burden significantly, and I do not make $250k. (hint: when BO talks about reforming corporate tax law, the changes don't just apply to big companies).
These goons are not just inappropriately punishing dissent, they're protecting misinformation. Hell, aside from me and other self-employed people, the 95% tax cut claim is clearly false because a good chunk of the people don't pay any federal income tax, so how the hell can they get a tax cut?

Heh heh- good one, Frank...but this is, actually, no longer a joke. It's exactly what we're facing if these dysfunctional juveniles take power in this country.

I've often said that a goodly portion of U.S. police organizations are in the pocket of the Left. This further confirms that assumption.

I believe if these officials actually tried to intimidate some person or entity based on speech, the officials and their governmental entities could be sued under section #1983 of Federal law. I expect to see the advertisements of law firms trolling for clients in Missouri.

Law enforcement officers engaging in clearly partisan activities. Is that legal? One doesn't have to be a lawyer to detect a foul odor from this?
So do they get to decide what is the truth? If you highlight Bill Ayers' as a communist mentor of Barack Obama and they don't like it, will they use that as grounds for arrest? And what if you resist their attempts to shut down your telling of the Ayers story?
The "Show Me State" is showing us the Socialist future.

I just hope our economy lasts long enough for me to get a Bushmaster ACR. If the whole thing comes crashing down the next day it won't be nearly as bad.

When 95% of Americans get a tax cut when only 60% pay taxes, nearly 40% of Americans will be getting another SUBSIDY. Handouts are the demotards answer to get back at he ugly, rich American. He's a fraud and Hussein's supporters are absolute brainless fools to believe otherwise.

Governor Matt Blunt of Missouri has issued this release:
http://governor.mo.gov/cgi-bin/coranto/viewnews.cgi?id=EkkkVFulkpOzXqGMaj&style=Default+News+Style&tmpl=newsitem
RE: plans by U.S. Senator Barack Obama to use Missouri law enforcement to threaten and intimidate his critics.
Thank you Gov.!
This is meerly a taste of what the socialist AKA democrat party have in store if they gain the White House.

Some free legal advice to the folks in Missouri.
If someone from law enforcement gets in your face about making statements about Obama (even if false), you have the constitutional right to tell him or her to take a hike.
You'e welcome.

This is the most chilling thing I've heard so far. If you "lie" or disagree, LAW ENFORCEMENT and OFFICERS OF THE COURT working for a PARTISAN CANDIDATE will "TARGET" you?

If he has even one thug do his bidding to silence anyone he needs to face prosecution.
Posted by: Brian at September 27, 2008 3:22 PM
You hit it right on Frank.
Missouri now officially has thought police reporting to a as of yet unelected political party. Man you can't make this stuff up.
In Canada we're also in full election swing, and even tho we have a minority Conservative government (the title alone works liberals into a froth), I still see shades of of these Missouri/liberal tactics here. Be it from our own Liberals, NDP, Bloc, Green Party etc. I'm not sure if it's the same in the U.S., but basically they control the unions here, from government employees, police, firefighter and other assorted labor trades. They are INSTRUCTED how they are to vote, and any dissent is not tolerated. Of course it goes without saying there is the ubiquitous radical left wing activist- I mean journalist-lock on all media. That's just business as usual.
Obviously our two nations are at different levels of socialist saturation, one evidently more acute than the other, ironically in the "land of the free". But in either case- is it so far fetched to go from being told how to vote, then being policed into voting, then to go straight to the Gulag for not playing along? My grandfather left Ukraine in 1912 for precisly these reasons.
Now it's here too.

Sorry, I don't necessarily interpret this matter the same way.
I think the point that the prosecutors (clowns) make is now that they will prosecute anyone, but rather that they will "respond." I take that to mean "rebut the arguments of," not "prosecute." It's hard to see what they could prosecute anyone for, in any case.
The only caveat here is that I'm not familiar with Missouri's ethics laws (who knew they even had them, after the massive voter fraud that took place in St. Louis in 2000, when I lived there?), so maybe there is some criminal sanction available. (Although IANAL, I believe libel/slander is a civil matter, not a criminal one.)
So I vote "present" on this one. The participation of law enforcement officials in their official capacity in a political campaign does smack of attempting to intimidate opponents, but I doubt that there's anything these clowns could do in any case.
Having said all that, all law enforcement officials, like all military officers, who take a public partisan political stand without making clear they speak only as private citizens should be censured.
Posted by: Jay Guevara at September 27, 2008 3:43 PM
Jay: I think you're probably right about the "response" not necessarily entailing arrest or prosecution, but the overall tone of the news story would suggest to the average viewer that they'd better tread lightly if they're saying anything bad about Obama - or else!
And, as someone who has been in a public / government position, I can assure you that I would've been handed my walking papers the moment I was on TV as a political hack.
Posted by: PabloD at September 27, 2008 4:12 PM
If "law enforcement" is involved it will be cease and desist orders to silence opposing view I'd imagine. Why would you ask lawyers and police to get involved at all if not for the purpose of threatening legal action or arrest?
Posted by: mivvis at September 27, 2008 4:36 PM
"Radio Free Missouri" - good thing they get TV and Radio signals from Kansas, Okahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Illinois, and Kentucky.
Real Americans can save them.
F*CK THE SOCIALIST OBAMA!
Are the Missouri "law" enforcers going to come after a blogger in Hawaii?
Posted by: Jimbo at September 27, 2008 4:51 PM
Jay, I think intimidation is the name of the game. Would one risk speaking out if they thought that a phalanx of lawyers and cops would "target" them (their words)? Would one risk MAYBE not being arrested or served papers? Risk getting pulled over for a "traffic violation" and suddenly having drugs found in your car?
The fact that a TV news station would broadcast this with NO critical analysis or balance (and in fact make it sound like they were endorsing it) is just chilling beyond belief.
Posted by: matt at September 27, 2008 5:00 PM
Pablo, matt, I think we're all on the same page. It's a head fake designed to make critics who don't know the law to think twice.
I think the following is exactly the conclusion that they wanted people to draw:
If "law enforcement" is involved it will be cease and desist orders to silence opposing view I'd imagine. Why would you ask lawyers and police to get involved at all if not for the purpose of threatening legal action or arrest?
And to that extent, it is disreputable, and were it in my power, I'd force the malefactors to publicly disavow their statements, and eat a flock of crow, by apologizing to the public at large for their "stupidity and ignorance in overstepping their bounds in a fashion incompatible with democracy and the American tradition of free speech."
And I'd write the text of the apology, and make them read exactly those words. If they refused, or failed to read my text word for word, I'd call a press conference and fire their asses publicly.

'Do you remember,' he went on, 'writing in your diary, "Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four"?'
'Yes,' said Winston.
O'Brien held up his left hand, its back towards Winston, with the thumb hidden and the four fingers extended.
'How many fingers am I holding up, Winston?'
'Four.'
'And if the party says that it is not four but five -- then how many?'
'Four.'
The word ended in a gasp of pain. The needle of the dial had shot up to fifty-five. The sweat had sprung out all over Winston's body. The air tore into his lungs and issued again in deep groans which even by clenching his teeth he could not stop. O'Brien watched him, the four fingers still extended. He drew back the lever. This time the pain was only slightly eased.
'How many fingers, Winston?'
'Four.'
The needle went up to sixty.
'How many fingers, Winston?'
'Four! Four! What else can I say? Four!'
The needle must have risen again, but he did not look at it. The heavy, stern face and the four fingers filled his vision. The fingers stood up before his eyes like pillars, enormous, blurry, and seeming to vibrate, but unmistakably four.
'How many fingers, Winston?'
'Four! Stop it, stop it! How can you go on? Four! Four!'
'How many fingers, Winston?'
'Five! Five! Five!'
'No, Winston, that is no use. You are lying. You still think there are four. How many fingers, please?'
'Four! five! Four! Anything you like. Only stop it, stop the pain!'
Abruptly he was sitting up with O'Brien's arm round his shoulders. He had perhaps lost consciousness for a few seconds. The bonds that had held his body down were loosened. He felt very cold, he was shaking uncontrollably, his teeth were chattering, the tears were rolling down his cheeks. For a moment he clung to O'Brien like a baby, curiously comforted by the heavy arm round his shoulders. He had the feeling that O'Brien was his protector, that the pain was something that came from outside, from some other source, and that it was O'Brien who would save him from it.
'You are a slow learner, Winston,' said O'Brien gently.

I take back what I said earlier. This isn't just about intimidation. I have it on pretty solid authority (no, not some conspiracy nut-job) that this the tip of the iceberg, and indeed IS the wave of the future.
It will be introduced in ways that make it seem more or less reasonable. "We are simply going to put a stop to the vicious lies and distortions..."
It will spiral out of (our) control from there. "Truth Squads" (a term they are already using with no repercussions) will be a national reality. Remember that "civilian police force" that Obama wants? The one with as much resources and power as the military? Guess what one of their functions will be.
Oh yes...we'll have truth squads and a lot more. Perhaps forced labor (re: Michele Obama's "“Barack Obama will require you to work. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual."), perhaps the United Nations overseeing what we do and superseding U.S. law...the possibilities are endless.
Make no mistake, the left is NOT going to lose this chance to reshape America. They are serious about it, and they're counting on us to not see the forest for the trees. Remember: they already let it slip about "Truth Squads".

I live in the St. Louis area and this is truly freakin' scary...
Thanks to XBOLTS for linking Gov Blunt's reaction...I especially love the "Obama needs to grow up" part:)
But seriously, I'm sending this to everyone I know and see if we can maybe instigate a test case or something to see where this will go...I'd love nothing more than to try to get some national attention on this. Truly Gestapo tactics, and it's only going to go down hill from here.
Ace of Spades hit the nail in the head when pointed out how ironic it is that the left now bows down and worships someone who embodies everything they claimed to despise about W...complete lack of evidence notwithstanding...(paraphrase)

One of the prosecutors featured in the news story is now backpedaling in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Judging by the blog at the paper's website, the readers aren't buying it.
Posted by: PabloD at September 28, 2008 3:02 PM
Trying to intimidate voters and suppress free speech and political debate (which by the way is protected by this little thing called the Constitution) is appalling.
Who will determine what the "truth" is, Obama supporters? Apparently in their own little universe, the word negative means untrue. I guess if you're an Obama supporter, you can set yourself up as judge, jury and executioner of the "truth" and hide behind your sheriff's badge or job at the prosecutor's office to do it.
There was this one man who encouraged informing on and turning in your neighbors in the interests of setting the record straight and promoting the "truth", maybe you've heard of him, his name was Hitler.

What this site doesn't tell you is that the only thing they would be going after are liars.
The only means they will use is fact checks, not wire-tapping, not stalking, not spying.
The Republicans are against this because their base consists of (keyword coming up here folks, pay close attention to this G word!) GULLIBLE, senile old people who have nothing else to do but vote.
Obama is not a Muslim. Obama is not a terrorist. Obama doesn't "pal around" with terrorists. Obama doesn't support what Ayers did. Obama is not bringing slavery back. Obama wants change. America doesn't want to stay in this rut we're in (deny the rut, and I'll send the truth squad after you). America wants CHANGE.
