Obama on the Bible

Despite the Obama=Jesus talk emanating from the Democrat Party, it's questionable whether the Obamessiah is even Christian — unless the race-based Marxist cult calling itself Black Liberation Theology can be construed as Christianity. Here he is attacking the Bible:

On a tip from not blind.

No, I wouldn't buy that ad, even for a dollar. Yes, the man's a dangerous leftie and may well be the new Jimmy Carter in terms of spectacular presidential success, but stitching together a few sentences from a speech where he's clearly (even from this) developing the theme of America as an inclusive nation with secular government to claim he's "mocking the bible" is just tacky.

As a black man who is a Christian, Obama's message here is uninformed and lacking illumination by the Holy Spirit. His emphasis on Old Testament legalism demonstrates a naivete. His discourse here makes me think he is a universalist who leans toward Christianity. Christianity does not inform his worldview is the only conclusion. Jesus is not Lord to him, not real to him, but only a prophet of the past.

is he blabbering about the KING JAMES BIBLE or the KORAN?

Posted by: Spurwing Plover at September 12, 2008 2:27 PM

Going back to the OT is always kind of iffy when referring to Christianity. Leviticus would have us stoning homosexuals to death, um, kinda like, um, what was that again... oh yeah ISLAM! Even I, a poor simple atheist, realizes that the OT legalism was set aside by the "GOOD NEWS!" of the NT; love thy neighbor as thyself and all that. I just have to think he doesn't have a handle on Christianity as such, which leads me to wonder how disingenuous he's being.

This man has no soul, no compassion and is not being honest. He is proud of being smart and clever but he is no Bill Clinton.
And his cocky attitude about God, the bible and what this "country" is or is not expose is egositic self-important arrogance.
He is smart he is just not as smart as he THINKS he is. He is NOT ready to lead this nation.
He has no core and his he has he is hiding it.

He would burn a bible or flush a koran he is a socialists commie dirtbag

"Jesus is not Lord to him, not real to him, but only a prophet of the past."

and this is supposed to be BAD thing? Jesus is not Lord to the majority of people in the world, adn for a growing number of Americans. Jesus isn't Lord for me! It's only a positive sign that America is movign away from the Bible thumping primitives who have attempted to hijack this nation since its inception..it's about time someone is brave enough to reject irrationality and superstition as a basis for political position.

"Anonymous at September 12, 2008 11:17 PM"

You mean like the superstitious people who call Obama "a lightworker"?

Posted by: KHarn at September 13, 2008 5:22 AM

I see that the bigoted, anti- Christian troll Anon is back for more?
And here I was thinking (Not to mention hoping) that jerk was gone for good.

"You mean like the superstitious people who call Obama "a lightworker?"

no nothing to do with Obama....i mean superstitious people who look to the Bible for their political views, and political leaders. Left or right.

When will you people realize that any discussion of religion in relation to politcs is wholly Un-American..? Your superstitions,
your faith...is a private matter...keep it out of US politics. It's explicitly what our founding fathers wanted...Start your own "Christian" nation, (and see how long it lasts) if you insist on looking to scripture for political guidance...If you insist on dragging the rest of us back to the dark ages, it's time you ceceded. do it. I dare you.

How can anyone not see how Christian America is?
First on YHVH's mind is exclusivity:
And God spake all these words, saying, I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (Exodus 20:1-3)

First on James Madison's mind is "government guarantees you in writing that it will not meddle in your spiritual beliefs:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Some Christian nation indeed.

I am never in a million years going to vote for Sen. Obongo (D-Kenya), but this doesn't change the fact that the First Amendment and the first commandment subjugating the flock are NOT reconcilable.

Two thousand years of Christianity, Lot of discovery, invention, and progress. Tell me anon, what has the liberal agenda brought to the table over the last several years? Political correctness, multi culturalism, same sex marriage, abortion and ridiculous laws to protect us from ourselves. Just what is it the left does believe in?

Posted by: Rick A at September 13, 2008 7:25 AM

My religion reconciles them just fine, thank you.

"We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may."

Posted by: V the K at September 13, 2008 8:10 AM

"Keeping faith out of politics" is liberal-speak for attempting to ensure that there's no counterpoint to their faith of self-worship, where the only commandment is "if it feels good, do it."
You know, if I quit clinging to my religion, the only thing I'm left clinging to is this gun...

V the K,

glad to hear that. Spoken like a true American, "my faith is my business and your faith is yours".

The pedantic scripturalist may mumble something about 2 Corinthians 6:14-17 (NIV):

"Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? " blah blah blah.

If you do not like this verse, I have others ;)

What amazes me to no end that folks so easily overlook what a great supply of gods, Gods, godlets, godlings, etc. we are blessed to have. "Oh what a fool is man, who can't make but a worm, yet makes gods by the million".
The supply of gods and their ever-present earthly underwriters who collect the premiums and promise the dividend after the shareholder's earthly journey is over is mind-numbing. The laws of economics would dictate that as the supply increases, the value decreases, but here is the miracle of simple faith, I guess...

America, in retrospect, is NOT a Christian nation. It is a nation where a lot of Christians live. That is not the same thing, not even remotely.

Good day to you.

And who cares what Obama's religion is? BLT? Muslim? "Christian"? I thing his religion is "Opportunist" - "Whatever seems to help at the moment".

People like Annon 11:17 are the actual people that are moving backwards by limiting the grandeur of the universe into Man being the ultimate arbiter of truth.

It should be apparent to any 'thinking' human that in Man the universe has a mechanism where it has limited self awareness. We are, after all, just made up of stuff within the universe.

To believe there is no possibility that this same mechanism does not exist in a way greater and more pervasive than Man is about as backwards as a thinking being can get.
