Making Sense of the Dems Shutting Off Iraqi Oil

It's not enough for Dems to do everything in their power to prevent us from using our own oil. They've also prevented us from using oil from Iraq.

Odious Democrat Senators Chuck Schumer, John Kerry, and Claire McCaskill were behind a move to prevent Iraq from doing business with American oil companies. As a result, the oil the Surge made available will be going to the communist Chinese instead.

Meanwhile, Congressional Dems are pushing "a provision to actively and permanently prevent exploration of nearly 90 percent of the Outer Continental Shelf and block energy production in the Inter-Mountain West."

What possible motive could they have? Maybe they really believe hamstringing our economy will benefit their sacred polar bears. Maybe treason is just an unthinking instinct with Kerry and colleagues. Most likely: they are deliberately laying the groundwork for a depression, which will enable a vast expansion of federal control over the economy.

This would also explain picking a presidential candidate whose election would all but ensure a collapse of the stock market. Obama wants to inflict "social justice" by jacking capital gains taxes through the ceiling. Needless to say, the period between his election and his taking office will be busy times on Wall Street, as everyone scrambles to unload their stocks before the new rates take effect.

With the stock market in ruins and our energy supply shut off within, the Dems will be in an excellent position to impose the New New Deal.

On a tip from Burning Hot.

I think you hit the nail on the head. The antiAmericans behind Obama are so cocksure that their boy will get in, thus ensuring a complete Communist takeover, that they are doing just what you suggest. A deliverate collapse of our economy is what they want so their agents waiting in the wings can take over immediately.

Too bad that we will hand Obama his ass in November.

These "shortages" are contrived, albeit over a few decades, but especially recently, and they are all about individual liberty. The commie-lib Dems have long known that American freedoms are based on freedom-of-movement, relatively cheap commodities (resulting from low fuel prices, free market competition, a relatively equitable justice system consistently enforced, etc.) freedom of speech and ability to own and administer personal property, and the right to defend one's self against attack. These are all being infringed, BY DESIGN. They are soon to be under the administration of foreign bodies to whom our "leaders" are voluntarily surrendering our national sovereignty, our self-determination as a country.

Yes, I think you're absolutely right. These people aren't simply stupid and ignorant. It's like a guy I knew when I was in the Navy said: "create chaos; in chaos the ruthless can take over." He was an avowed communist.

A theory such as this implies foresight that the left is not known for. I think it is more simply explained by the liberals' myopic view of the economy and how it works. They believe that burning oil is bad, and people driving themselves is wasteful, so they want oil to be as expensive as possible so people will stop doing it. And that's as far as they look. Yes, expensive fuel will restrict movement and hamstring our economy, but I'm not sure they see that far. We see the same thing with their educational initiatives and other economic programs (like pushing mortgage lenders to give loans to unqualified people).

As the saying goes, never attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity. The left cares only about appearances, never about substance. Therefore, as soon as something looks good to them, they run with it and don't think it through any further. This isn't to say that there aren't Marxists on the left (including BHO), but the idea of a "vast left-wing conspiracy" (to borrow from the Shrill One) seems a bit far-fetched. Not impossible, but difficult to pull off without someone getting wise. Hell, even the way-left media (I repeat myself) couldn't ignore THAT forever.

BHO with a Democrat-controlled Congress still scares the pants off of me, though.

Agree 100 percent.

The left wants to sink the economy, send the government into chaos and have the people in a 1929 depression-like situation.

At that point, you don't have to "impose" socialism (which is impossible in a vibrant, free society). With the country in chaos, people will (they hope) accept socialism with open arms.

The left are seditious traitors. Stand tough, America!

I agree, 100%. The left will take advantage of bad situations to try and bolster their power, but they aren't planning it. It's more the way Ann Coulter described it. To quote:

The preposterous conceit that Democrats are the Party of the People and Republicans the Party of the Powerful has been repeated so often that by now it is incapable of disproof. In fact, all conceivable evidence supports the theory that liberalism is a whimsical luxury of the very rich-and the very poor, both of whom have little stake in society.

These folks are playing. They are permanently insulated, practically and emotionally, from the consequences of their ideology. The New Deal was a veritable playground for leftist social theory, as was The Great Society, and I think that time is coming around again.

But they want to play with their toys. While some true radicals might be trying to destroy capitalism, the great majority of liberals believe religously in their social theories, and no amount of failure will ever shake their faith. They think you can tax your way to prosperity--it's not an attempt to destroy the economy, they really believe it. They believe a progressive government will be an inherently positive actor, and can improve healthcare and the environment and save the planet. They really believe they can legislate a minimum wage of $10 an hour and it won't effect jobs. They think they can raise the capital gains tax without having it end up as a disincentive to investment, just as they continue to believe--in the face of overwhelming evidence--that you can shovel money into horrible loans to buy houses for poor folks without savings and with bad credit, and if it all falls apart it's because of Republican tax cuts and predatory lending, even though the government essentially was demanding that these loans be made, and propping up the market by buying these crappy loans hand over fist in order to free up capital for banks to make more of these socially progressive loans. And so on.

In a way, it's a lot more dangerous. It's very difficult to get a majority of people to want to wreck the economy or destroy the country because capitalism is bad or America is evil. It's much easier for passionate people who have a deep faith in their secular liberalism to evangelize the fence-sitters and get them to vote for the fantasy Utopia of Obama-land, where the seas will recede and the world will cool and the deserts will bloom and global poverty will disappear (by, um, taking your paycheck and giving it to corrupt dictators, ahem).

They don't want to sink the economy, they just don't have any idea how it works, and are perfectly happy to drive it off the cliff. Apparently, that applies to a lot of Republicans too.

Healthy Girl: Amen, girl! They have replaced traditional religion (which is nothing more than a tool of Evil Conservatives) with their own - secular liberalism. Raising taxes produces prosperity. Raising the minimum wage doesn't affect jobs. Home ownership is the right thing for everyone. Only the government can properly run healthcare/schools/banks/whatever. All social problems stem from racism and sexism. These are not just their opinions - they are articles of faith to them, and they never bother to evaluate their correctness because there is nothing to evaluate. If these things were true the world would be a utopia, so they MUST be correct. And when it doesn't work, it isn't because their plan had flaws (and rather obvious ones, in hindsight), but because the Evil Conservatives interfered and undermined their plans.

It is said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different result. Most of the left is insane.

Don't forget Bush Derangement Syndrome. Iraqi oil supplies could help the economy. This means that if Bush got credit for any economic relief whatsoever, the Democrats will have lowered their chances to get their idiot into the White House.
The liberal maggots are not particularly bright, but they will always find a way to eat.

Fiberal may be on to something; it could be that the Liberals realise that their chances of winning the election are crappy, so they are organizing an ecconomic colapse to blame on McCain and Palin.

But I also have to agree with the rest of you; I know several Liberals and people who THINK like Liberals, none of them really know basic ecconomics! Concepts such as the diffrence between "taxes" and "revenue" and how business profits are used.

Monkeys playing with matches... bwaaahahahaha....

KHarn, you remind me of a quote from one of my favorite authors, P. J. O'Rourke:

"Giving money and power to Government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys."
