Eurosnob: America Is Too Provincial for Nobel Lit Prize
American moonbattery is sufficiently fulsome to produce Nobel Peace Prize winners like Jimmy Carter and Al Gore, but when it comes to Literature, our prize-winning days appear to be behind us for now. Sniffs Horace Engdahl of the Swedish Academy:
The U.S. is too isolated, too insular. They don't translate enough and don't really participate in the big dialogue of literature. That ignorance is restraining.
Obscenity-laced doggerel comparing the USA to Nazi Germany might win you a Nobel Prize if you're Harold Pinter, but not if you're a measly American.
On the bright side, if Barack Obama is elected, Europeans will like us more. Unfortunately, we'll like ourselves a lot less.

On a tip from Adrian.

He doesn't look like the type of "guy" I'd want on my side in an honest bar fight.
American literature seems to be driven too much by capitalism (best sellers) for him?
I doubt I'd recommend his "most recommended" to anyone outside of unthinking homosexual insomniacs who watch Oprah and live with 'mother'.

The Nobel literature "prize" is a joke, as is the "peace" prize. Both were established after Nobel's original bequest. How one compares the literature of different languages and cultures is anyone's guess.
As for this guy, back in Viking times, would he have sailed with the men or been left behind with the women? It's a rhetorical question, obviously.

Europe and most of the free world has outsourced their security to the US. Make them pay their share.

A legend in his own mind. He is the iconic self important "intellectual" expressing his superiority to the Sammy Six-packs in that regretfully gauche place called America. Apparently great literature is determined by how few copies you sell. William Faulkner, James Thurber, Thornton Wilder, Ernest Hemmingway, John Steinbeck, et al are laughing their etherial butts off at this butt biscuit.
