Baroness Warnock Calls for Executing the Elderly
Socialized medicine takes a highly valuable and limited commodity — healthcare — and sets the cost to free. Those with even a rudimentary understanding of economics should not be surprised that this has caused supply shortages. But British medical ethics expert Baroness Warnock has found a solution:
The veteran Government adviser said pensioners in mental decline are "wasting people's lives" because of the care they require and should be allowed to opt for euthanasia even if they are not in pain.
She insisted there was "nothing wrong" with people being helped to die for the sake of their loved ones or society.
The 84-year-old added that she hoped people will soon be "licensed to put others down" if they are unable to look after themselves.
Warnock is allegedly Britain's "leading moral philosopher." She wants dementia sufferers to consider "ending their lives through euthanasia." Needless to say, dementia sufferers are not in a position to make decisions, any more than unborn babies are; others make the potentially lethal decisions for them. What this moral philosopher is talking about is having people put to death for having Alzheimer's disease.
Look for other expensive illnesses to follow. When progressives attained total control of Germany, they killed 6,000,000 Jews. The next time they consolidate that kind of power, they'll be going after anyone with costly and/or chronic diseases.
On the positive side, there will be free healthcare for all… who survive.

On a tip from mega.

Liable to? Are we sure she hasn't already?

I wonder if she'll be the first one to sign up? Likely, no.

You know, even old people that aren't sick right now are at a much higher risk of developing severe (and expensive) health problems. Since even if they recover they don't have much life remaining anyway, wouldn't it be better for their loved ones and society if we just terminated anyone over the age of, I don't know, 83? See "Logan's Run" for more information.
I'm all for allowing people of sound mind the choice to terminate their own lives, having found it ironic that we allow dogs, cats, horses, etc to be put down for "humane reasons", but not humans. As Van pointed out, the problem with Baroness Moonbat's suggestion is that people suffering from Alzheimer's are not in a position to make rational decisions. But of course, the government is rational enough for all of us, so what are we worried about?
Capitalism considers people as assets; Socialism considers people as liabilities. Never is that more clear than in socialized medicine.

As a Brit, I'd like to remind all the non-Brits on this blog that we have an open immigration policy, and thus you are more than welcome to move here. You don't have to stay your whole lives, just long enough to vote in a couple of elections.
Please. Bring all the friends you can.

Is Baroness Warnock ready to lead by example?
Posted by: Bryan at September 19, 2008 9:18 AM
I agree that someone of sound mind should be able to choose, I personally do not want to reach an age in which I require someone else's aid in wiping my own butt. I do not think, under any circumstance, that that choice should be made by anyone other than the individual.

I heard a British small business owner talking about his counties "free health care" once. He said it was costing him $1,100 a month for the free coverage for his family. On a trip to the US, he check on the cost for the best family coverage plan at Kaiser Permeninte, it was $600 per month. Free healthcare, what a f'in joke.
Posted by: Trip at September 19, 2008 9:38 AM
Note: that is $1,100 a month in Taxes he is paying

Britain's "leading moral philosopher."
You keep using those word. I do not think they mean what you think they mean.
Posted by: Ronsonic at September 19, 2008 9:44 AM
Coder...I'm hoping the first part of your post was satirical. "even if they recover they don't have much life remaining anyway, wouldn't it be better for their loved ones and society if we just terminated anyone over the age of, I don't know, 83?"
Ending one's own life by choice (not one I'd make, by the way) is a whole lot different than saying "sorry Charlie, you're 83 and no longer useful. Here is the Kool Aid..."
As for the oh-so-moral" Baroness, she should pull her own plug and put her corpse where her mouth is.

Ah yes, "the right to die", which in practice quickly morphs into "the duty to die" - to save resources for others, to prevent family burden (or in countries with socialized medicine, taxpayer burden), for the common good.
Legalized abortion and euthanasia not only end a life, they shape the culture to marginalize those who choose not to pursue them in difficult situations: witness the liberal reaction to Sarah Palin having 5 kids (one with Down Syndrome) and Bristol Palin's decision not to abort her unplanned pregnancy - it's been downright vicious. With legalized euthanasia, the same vitriol will eventually be directed toward the elderly and those afflicted with debilitating conditions.
A brave new world, indeed.

matt: Yes, the first part of my comment was satirical. It was an allusion to "Logan's Run", a story about a dystopian future in which citizens are executed at age 21 to preserve resources for the rest of society. I changed the age to 83 in honor of Baroness Moonbat, who is 84.
The point I was trying to make (but never quite got to) was that it is a short step from "you have the right to die if you are terminally ill" to "you have the duty to die if you are terminally ill" to "you have the duty to die before you become terminally ill". Hence the Logan's Run reference - on their 21st birthday, citizens were forced to report to "Sleep Centers" where they were executed. "Runners" (those who refused to report) were hunted down by the state and executed.
Given the current state of government in Europe and the leftist leanings therein, this should chill us to the bone. Given the leftist leanings of many in our government (and possibly our next President), this possibility should horrify us to the bone.

Is Baroness Warnock running for Parlement under the Soylent Green party?
Posted by: Oiao at September 19, 2008 12:02 PM
Kill the old! They had their time, now they're just an expense!
Kill the sick! Why should a terminal patient continue to live? Its an unnecessary cost.
Kill the people with low intelligence and Down's Syndrome. They serve no purpose in an enlightened society.
Kill the handicapped. Someone has to care for them and the caregiver could be more productive elsewhere.
Kill the obese! They impose extra cost on the free health care system.
Kill the smokers. For obvious reasons.
Kill the meat eaters. Meat consumption causes aggression and high blood pressure.
Kill the drunks and the junkies! They don't really contribute to our society.
Kill the ugly people. They offend us cool people.
Kill the Catholics, Jews, Evangelicals...Religion is the opiate of the masses.
That should about do it! Now we have a nice progressive society.

Shooter:
You forgot "Kill the unborn! They'll eventually become old, sick, have low intelligence or Down's Syndrome, or a handicap, or obese, smoke, eat meat, drink and take drugs, grow up ugly, or embrace religion."
Posted by: Panday at September 19, 2008 12:44 PM
Just think if she had said kill all stray and rabid pets the jerks from PETA lead by such hollyweed dim-wits like PAMELA ANDERSON and ALEC BALDWIN would want her sent to prison
Posted by: Spurwing Plover at September 19, 2008 3:27 PM
Thank you Pan!
Especially the unborn! They'll also screw up the environment with poo filled pampers by the millions.
Oh! And kill all those flatulent bovines, they just make it warmer and I'm a skier.
I also forgot the poor people! What a nuisance they are! Taking out loans for houses they'll never afford and causing financial catastrophes and our portfolios some distress. Can't have that! So kill all the poor people, all they do is fill emergency rooms with sniffly little rugrats, hang out on their porches, drink cheap beer all day and fornicate all night!

Wow, a great thread.
And thanks, Coder. I actually never saw Logan's Run (I basically don't watch "new" movies...and "new" basically means anything since the '50s).
I should have picked up on the 83 remark. Everyone here has it right. Too bad the left is hell-bent on promoting death at all costs. Now it's getting personal...and dangerous.

Back in the early 1980s, Francis Schaefer predicted that once euthanasia become an acceptable option, it would soon become an expectation, shortly followed by becoming an obligation.

Baroness Warnock is a Tory who was made a baroness by good old Maggie Thatcher. And knocking off demented old people is a Thatcherite idea, isn't it? Why should unproductive addled old folks take up space that could be occupied by hard-charging productive young people? Bleeding heart liberals wouldn't be willing to take the hard but necessary steps toward a sound economy, but a conservative like Baroness Warnock doesn't flinch from the hard choices. This is sound conservative thinking, if you ask me.

Ian, I'd take you up on that offer... however, I fear what would become of this place if enough of us set sail to help out. I have a better idea: come over here and help us shrink the government one vote at a time. You'd love the States... at least the States I fell in love with.

In regard to the 6,000,000 Jews killed by the Nazis - they did actually begin with people with mental deficiencies.
Posted by: John Lewis at September 19, 2008 6:43 PM
Before the Nazis killed the six million Jews, they perfected their killing techniques by going to all of the insane asylums and killing all of the inhabitants. Shooting was inefficient, so they started sealing the buildings and then filling them with carbon monoxide from the exhaust of a car. Eventually, they progressed to form the gas chambers and the death camps using this early research into how to dispose of 'undesirables' most efficiently. And the kicker is that they did this based on the eugenics research, and the monetary donations, provided by leading lights of the American Progressive movement.
Godwin's law notwithstanding, it really is chilling to see that the modern "progressives" haven't really changed, given the attitudes towards the people who really need protection, from babies with Downs to old folks with dementia.

Difficult to understand why Warnock attracts such attention. There is never any rational process in her stuff - it's mere prejudice and benighted opinion slopped up to order to please her sponsors. There seems to be some popular delusion that being a badly dressed blue stocking (Shirley Williams another buffoonish example) makes a woman's opinions worth hearing. But of course it doesn't.
If Warnock had been born on a council estate she'd just be another barmy old bat at the bus stop. In truth she is an ignorant, irrational, and malificent clown employed by the abortionists and embryology ghouls (chimeras 'r' us) to excuse the sort of conduct Hitler would have baulked at.
It's all a sad reflection on British society today.
Now who's going to scour the bottom of the barrel next for a few minutes' attention?
