What's Good for the Goose Is Good for the Gander

…or, what goes around, comes around:

A man who is already crusading against ladies' nights in bars has sued Columbia University, saying its women's studies program is unconstitutional.
Roy Den Hollander filed the lawsuit Monday in federal court in New York. The lawsuit claims the college program is discriminatory because there's no comparable men's program. It says the university uses government aid to promote a religious belief system known as feminism.

Maybe the whole absurd carousel of identity politics will turn full circle, and one day an unqualified mulatto will expect us to vote for him because he's part white.

On a tip from Oiao.

Well, I appreciate the sentiment, but campaigning against ladies' nights? That's downright un-American!

Is he gay? I imagine the removal of 'ladies nights' will keep lots of women out of the bars.

That guy is my hero. Once he knocks "women's studies" on the head, he can go after all the other grievance studies departments too.

Then we can re-institute ladies' night...

It rather reminds me of a conservative documentary I heard of which exposes liberalism's impact on colleges. I'm told there's a really funny scene in which the documentary's host wanders the offices trying to find the Department of Men's Studies.

@Adam

I know that movie! Indoctrinate U! It's a good one!

If we have any success with eliminating the women's studies departments, then we should go after the racist African-American studies departments next.

Yeah, where's our Title IX bennies, anyway?

Come to think of it, conservatives should choose a particular course in one of the grievance studies departments and flood it with those who don't belong to the aggrieved group. Force the comrades either to "teach" to a hostile audience, or to bar students on the basis of race, sex, ethnicity, or sexual normality.

Maybe we could even get the ACLU to pick up the tab for the litigation. Sometimes they do surprise.

As a woman, I have always been offended by these programs. You go, guy!

Posted by: Lynn at August 19, 2008 9:20 AM

I think the standard argument is that all other fields of study are "Men's Studies" - that is, that everything else, from math to science to history, are presented from the (white Christian) male point of view - and so a "Men's Studies" department would be redundant and unnecessary. Besides, this allows members of aggrieved groups otherwise unqualified for PhD's to obtain such and piss and moan for a living. Some people grow out of their counter-culture phase, and some just never do. The ones that don't get gender or ethnic studies degrees.

And Jay, remember that Title IX was invented to transfer benefits to women from men, not the other way around.

I've always wondered how you achieve equality by favoring certain groups over others. Why is the reaction to inequality ALWAYS to shift to the other extreme?

Posted by: cowlove at August 19, 2008 11:17 AM

I think this is fantastic. I am waiting for a man to sue the Curves chain of women's-only gyms for discrimination.

Come on, Moonbattery readers...any takers?

Women's Studies. Tell me what productive job do you get with a degree in Women's Studies? It has to rate right up there with Communications, Journalism, and my all time favorite - Underwater Basket Weaving. They are all equivalent: worthless (except maybe the basket weaving, you can always sell the baskets).

In the math, statistics, accounting and Economics classes I took, there were no African-Americans and only two women.
In grad school of Economics, Univ. of Tennessee, there were no blacks and only one woman. And she was smart as a whip. A large public university, only one woman.

Suing Curves for being female only? Um whatever happened to private businesses? A business should be allowed to cater to all men ala the Boy Scouts or all women ala Curves without interference from the government. If a bar wants to give discounts to women, that's THEIR BUSINESSES.

Posted by: Anonymous at August 19, 2008 2:12 PM

Actually, wasn't Curves sued by a man a few years back?

To the MoonBat left, redistribution of wealth is not about making sure the poor can eat (the church community does a better job at this anyway), its about making sure that the legal profession and scumbag lawyers have a steady income.

Most of them move from ambulance chasing to politics anyway.

Sure, it's up to a business whether they want to allow just women or just men. But it seems the "all men" establishments are considered sexist and therefore ripe for lawsuits, while "all women's" establishments are catering to women's more sensitive needs.

And as for ladies' nights at bars, where women get in for free, why aren't there men's nights too?

It's the double standard that ticks me off.

I have no problem with a private business excluding men (or women, although that is verboten now). My problem is with publically funded institutions (e.g., universities) effectively doing so (e.g., womens' or ethnic studies).

Anecdote: As I entered a local gym, various employees bustled up to me and rather heatedly told me that it was "women-only." I started to explain, but they cut me off with some asperity and demanded that I leave immediately.

Which I did, without telling them that I had come in to buy a gift membership for my wife, who'd expressed interest in the gym... (/sound of wallet snapping shut).

PS: they're now out of business.

Use the lawsuits against the sue happy feminazis - brilliant!
