Nancy Pelosi Is Completely Clueless on Energy

Nancy Pelosi, the most powerful woman in the world, is largely responsible for determining our energy policy, which helps explain the extravagantly expensive gasoline that is dragging our economy down toward recession. Despite her awesome responsibility, she knows next to nothing about energy, to the point that she does not even understand that natural gas is a fossil fuel and is not conjured into existence by fairies but must be drilled out of the ground. Power Line offers a transcript of Nasty flaunting her appalling ignorance on NBC's Meet the Depressed:

BROKAW: Well, I think most people understand that, but at the same time, if we work our way off carbon-based fuels, in the meantime, this is not going to happen overnight.
PELOSI: No, it isn't, but you could — again, you could reduce the price at the pump immediately with (inaudible). You can have a transition with natural gas. You can have a transition with natural gas. That is cheap, abundant and clean compared to fossil fuels.
***
PELOSI: I'm — I'm investing in something I believe in. I believe in natural gas as a clean, cheap alternative to fossil fuels.
***
PELOSI: Well, that's not — that is the marketplace. The fact is, the supply of natural gas is so big, and you do need a transition if you're going to go from fossil fuels, as you say, you can't do it overnight, but you must transition.
These investments in wind, in solar and biofuels and focus on natural gas, these are the real alternatives.

As for drilling to acquire the fossil fuel known as natural gas:

BROKAW: Sounds like we're going to have offshore drilling.
PELOSI: No, no, no.

Maybe Pelousy thought we could achieve an endless supply of natural gas by hooking up a tube to Ted Kennedy's backside. Notice that she still hasn't caught on that the biofuel boondoggle is an unmitigated disaster, much less that solar and wind power are nowhere near efficient enough to challenge fossil fuels and nuclear power, no matter how heavily they are subsidized with money looted from taxpayers.

Absolutely clueless and in charge.

On a tip from Byron.

Why do they call Natural Gas cheap? If ones heats with natural gas in the north - its anything but cheap. It used to be! Not any more. Columbia Gas in PA jacked up budget plan amount 75% over last year from average $120 to $205. I know some people who have gone from $170 to nearly $300/month. And people keep saying we have plenty? And goofs like Pickens saying we should fuel our cars with it - converting it to hydrogen? $200-$300/month for heating? Try $1,000/month if cars start using the stuff in a big way. Meanwhile oil and coal that could be used for power, fuel and heating will remain locked away. Only limousine liberals will be toasty and warm while the rest of us freeze - at least those not living in the deep south.

Some scientists think natural gas and even oil could be remnants of gases trapped in the earth during its early formation and arent fossil fuels at all. There is oil deep within the earth under bedrock that defies conventional theories of oil formation - though not in huge quantities. The outer gas giant planets contain alot of methane and components found in natural gas. Titan, a moon of Saturn, is basically has an atmosphere of natural gas. NASA is even toying with the idea of natural gas rocket engines so that spacecraft could one day be refueled on the outer planets/moons.

I think it's time for the manager to go out to the mound and make a pitching change. Nancy "Lefty" Pelosi just doesn't have good stuff anymore. Of course, the manager would probably just bring in another damn lefty.

Are you sure she's not blonde? Maybe she colors her hair.

You could have stopped the headline with "Nancy Pelosi is completely clueless".

Anonymous at August 26, 2008 9:08 AM has a valid point. The Russians (finally) published papers on a bunch of research that Stalin had them do on this. Coal (and perhaps some 'natural' gas is reconstructed plant life. Oil (and some natural gas) is not. Otherwise the huge lakes and seas of hydrocarbons on moons and planetesimals that have never had any plant or animal life would not exist. They even produced some non-biological oil in the labs emulating deep earth heat and chemicals.

Regardless... drill, drill, drill. Screw the fuzzy bunnies.

What about Nancy Pelosi's pledge that the price of gas would go down, once the Democrats were back in power? That was an explicit campaign commitment, and instead prices have gotten higher.

Why wasn't she asked about that?

I also tend to consider "petroleum" to most likely be of abiogenic origin (ie not "dead dinosaurs") (although this isn't to say there's an infinite supply nor that we're not using it faster than it's being generated). However, whether or not petroleum is dead dinosaurs, you still have to drill in the same sort of places for "natural" gas as you do for oil. Nancy (as the nominal leader of the clueless) is "naturally" more clueless than the usual run of congresscritters.

Anon - also consider into the demand/price issue for natural gas, as more and more environmoonbats use air quality standards to control our lives, that forces the trend for electric power production to go to natural gas (vice abundant coal or oil). Add in fueling vehicles, and a very limited supply just gets streached beyond capacity, even with new drilling.

Forget nuclear, no self respecting MooBat will ever admit that it is the safest and cheapest solution (why France, China and the rest of the world are building nuke plants).

Supply is not the problem. Greed is. Didn't you ever wonder why diesel is often even higher than gasoline, yet it is the same product unrefined?

There is so much natural gas being wasted when big regulator stations blow it off to ease off the pressure. This is sometimes several times a day because there is just THAT MUCH of the stuff. Terrible waste. I remember this president signing off on harnessing all that blow-off a few years ago but I still hear those whistles blowing right before the gas does. As usual, those that could have done something about it, chose not to.

In Ohio, PA and parts of NY you can smell even the leaking gas as you drive around the area. The government has tried to force the gas companies to plug up the leaks. They only do the minimum required and then cry poor and beg money from the PUC. Big companies like Tennesee Natural Gas and Columbia own most of what is out there and they drain every penny out of us to heat our homes yet think nothing of letting near that same amount literally blow into the air.

Such bullshit.

Thanks for summing up the content of your post in the last two words, anonymous troll.

Mr Evilwrench -
You are 100% correct. Scientists have told us that at least one of Saturn's moons is made up almost completely of methane.

Where did those "fossils" come from? Algore's ass?

Posted by: Jimbo at August 26, 2008 9:01 PM

Sorry – I of course meant the ATMOSPHERE on one of Saturn’s moons is made up of methane...
But you knew that - cuz you're smart folks...

anon 4:26 you really need to educate yourself. Obviously the schools have let you down. Diesel is not semi-refined gasoline. You need to talk to someone who cooks crude for a living. I've got two refineries in rock throwing distance from here. You really do. Part two: can you say pipelines and storage? The NIMBY's have prevented us from building the high pressure pipelines needed to move natural gas where it's needed. They also refuse to let us build storage facilities for LNG and LPG. They even went so far as to get a garbage strewn commercial section of a river declared a national scenic river to prevent an LNG terminal on the East Coast. It misanthropy not greed causing this. (for those in Rio Linda misanthropes are people haters)
