Daily Kos on the Greatness of America

From a post inspirationally entitled, "If Moral Greatness Were a Medal Count, America Would Not Be No. 1":

We are the wealthiest nation in the world and widely indoctrinated to consider ourselves the "greatest" nation. Of course, if we were to measure our greatness by military might and financial wealth, we'd be No. 1 - no doubt. But what makes a nation truly "great" is its leadership and devotion to social/moral issues. […]
Access to quality education, health care, a clean environment, fair wages, and independent media are ABSOLUTELY correlated to a society's freedom. And quite frankly, there are many nations beating us in all of these measures. The world once looked up to us for our principles. It's time we start looking at the rest of the world to determine where we went wrong.

"Free" can mean different things, as in "free speech" as opposed to "free beer." This difference is lost on liberals, who actually believe that America is less free because not enough money is expropriated to pay for other people's healthcare, and with the exception of misguided minimum wage laws, wages tend to be determined by the free market rather than blundering autocrats. Because America is more free, moonbats find that it is less free, and consequently despise it.

But don't question their patriotism. That would be like saying Obama is in favor of killing babies.

On a tip from mandible claw.

What is lost on Kos is that it is his ilk that demands we all finish the race at the same time regardless of one's ability to excel ahead of others.

They hate those that excel in education and demand a dumb-down to the lowest common denominator both in facility and students, they despise those that can accumulate wealth and want to punish them for doing so. They demand equal pay for those that do not achieve.

True freedom comes by allowing those that reach to grasp all that they can.

In Kos's competition of life there are no medals.

In Kos's competition of life there are no medals.

Not quite true. The medals are all made of cheap tin, and everybody gets one. That's how collectivism works.

You're close, V. The peasants get the tin ones; the elite get the gold ones. That's how collectivism works!

America is the most generous country on Earth, as well as the most successful. The citizens give to all sorts of charitable causes, and the government provides aid to other countries for things like famine and disaster relief whenever it is needed. When we have a natural disaster, who comes running to help us?

There was an article posted here recently about an America advocacy group setting up shop in England to combat negative (and false) impressions many Brits have about America. Maybe they should also set up branches in San Francisco, New York, LA, and Washington.

The elites also get to decide who's an elite and who's a peasant.

Assuming you're not raising the bar every time you measure, what's unclean about the environment? The US has some of the most stringent environmental laws anywhere.

>>But what makes a nation truly "great" is its leadership and devotion to social/moral issues.>>

Tell me this, Kos; WHO has been promoting "moral and social values" and WHO has been promoting "anything goes"?

It must be remembered that the tearing down of moral and social values was part of the orders to COMMUNIST agents in the fifties and sixties. The Liberals, knowingly or unknowingly, are still carrying out these orders.

social and moral issues?

like providing children with condoms?

gay marriage?

religious tolerance of the one true religion of peace?

abortion on demand?

breakdown of the two parent family?

some of this ended the greatest empires in history - will we learn? or will history repeat itself?

When people risk their very lives to get into that nation it is fair to say that nation is great.

When people risk their lives to leave... well I don't care how "vaunted" their health care system is they suck.

Thanks for summing up this discussion, rjschwarz!

I like Van's wording: "everything that isn't forbidden must be mandatory." Or words to that effect.
