Bill Maher: Americans Are Too Dumb to Be Governed
Because we are so stupid as to believe that increasing the oil supply would lower prices, we Americans are "too dumb to be governed," according to Bill Maher of Hollywood's enlightened liberal elite:
It is true that prior generations were in some ways smarter. For example, our forefathers would have tarred and feathered a jerk like Maher and run him out of town on a rail, rather than treating him like a wise man and showering fame and fortune upon him.
On a tip from Wiggins.

If I hung out with nobody but Hollywood celebs in my social circle and had nothing else to go on, I'd assume people were too stupid to be governed, too.
If we can't drill our way out of an oil shortage, why do Democrats think we can tax our way out of a recession?

Rope, Tree, Loud mouthed lefty idiot...Some assembly required.

I have always held the belief that the reason so my comedians and actors speak for the Left it because it has become a pretentious joke.

Excellent point(s), V.

Only a dolt would believe the DNC talking point that increasing domestic production of oil would have no affect on the price of gas, or would take 20 years to have an effect. Hell, just talking about drilling for oil domestically has lowered the price of oil by over $30 a barrel! The precipitous decline in oil prices began on July 15th, the day after Bush lifted the executive order on drilling.
If Congress has the sense to let the drilling restrictions expire on October 1st (which I doubt -- Congress is filled with dolts, too), then we can expect another huge decline in the price of oil. If we actually go all out and try to tap into all of our oil resources, then after just a few years, oil would probably reach an all-time (inflation-adjusted) record low price.
It's a frigging no-brainer, as any economist not beholden to socialism would tell you.

Did Larry King say that quote was from Lincoln? If he did, wasn't Lincoln dead in the 30's?

Americans who watch Bill Maher are too dumb for words
Posted by: ToddonCapeCod at August 20, 2008 9:37 AM
Bill Maher constantly goes out of his way to demonstrate what a thoroughly loathsome man he is. Between his anti- Christian bigotry which he proudly flaunts every chance he can get, accusing President Bush of being a wife- beater, the viciousness and insensitivity he showed in Halloween of 2006 by showing up at a Hollywood costume party wearing a Steve Irwin costume (Complete with a bloody stingray barb sticking out of its chest) just a few months after Irwin's death, and now this, he's constantly finding new ways to expose himself as the callous, heartless, egotistical, and generally evil man that he is. If I ever met him in person, it would take every ounce of Christian love and mercy in my body to keep me from punching him in the face. If Maher continues the way he's been going, he's probably got a reserved seat in Hell to look forward to.

Bill Maher's conduct is that of a spoiled child who has been suddenly replaced by a younger sibling. He keeps acting in outrageous ways so people will notice him. The best way to deal with this pompous ass is to simply ignore him. The more shrill he becomes, the less people will listen.

He suffers from a common Hollywood disease, crainial-rectal convergence. There is no known cure. It appears to be communicable. It is widely distrbuted amongst the libtards.

I find it funny that smug and arrogant liberals like Maher rail against the failure in our culture that they themselves have created. They don't even realize how stupid they look to the people outside of their social and political leanings.
Bill Maher should stop saying Americans and use the word left-wingers instead. Then i'd agree with him.

Only good thing about Bill Maher is that he's on HBO. That means most Americans aren't watching him and could care less about what he thinks and says.

Hey Bill, if we're too dumb to be governed, what are you suggesting? Perhaps a place where all the ignorant, unwashed masses are told what to do by a supreme leader who is 'smarter' than they are? I guess the trains would run on time...
Posted by: matt at August 20, 2008 11:32 AM
Hey matt, that place where "all the ignorant, unwashed masses are told what to do by a supreme leader who is 'smarter' than they are...."
IS CALLED HOLLYWOOD AND THOSE SUPREME LEADERS ARE DIRECTORS AND PRODUCERS AND THOSE IGNORANT UNWASHED MASSES ARE CALLED ACTORS AND CELEBRITIES!
Bill Maher needs a cranial enema.

I don't see why we can't drill our way out of this energy problem. We drilled our way into it.
Drill here drill now pay less

For more on this see The Revolt of the Elites and the Betrayal of Democracy by Christopher Lasch (1995). The political aspect of our ills. A powerful polemic for change. Its hostile reception by both conservatives and liberals suggests that it struck too close to home for their comfortable self-assurance. Such a subtle, complex work defies attempts to summarize it, but this excerpt will do as well as any. Note that he writes about the leftist segment of the intelligentsia, but a similar description could be written about its right wing.
The new elites are in revolt against “Middle America,” as they imagine it, a nation technologically backwards, politically reactionary, repressive in its sexual morality, middlebrow in its tastes, smug and complacent, dull and dowdy. Those who covet membership in the new aristocracy of brains tend to congregate on the coasts, turning their back on the heartland and cultivating ties with the international market in fast-moving money, glamour, fashion, and popular culture. It is a question whether they think of themselves as Americans at all. Patriotism, certainly, does not rank very high in their hierarchy of virtues.
“Multiculturalism,” on the other hand, suits them to perfection, conjuring up the agreeable image of a global bazaar in which exotic cuisines, exotic styles of dress, exotic music, exotic tribal customs can be savored indiscriminately, with no questions asked and no commitments required.
The new elites are at home only in transit, en route to a high-level conference, to the grand opening of a new franchise, to an international film festival, or to an undiscovered resort. Theirs is essentially a tourist’s view of the world — not a perspective likely to encourage a passionate devotion to democracy.

Another reason we should drill for oil in the United States:
It would mean that we would buy LESS Middle East oil, so the Arabs can sell what the US doesn't need to Eruope, alowing them to be less dependant on the (New) Soviet Union. This would delay the neo-communists' emperial conquests.

Note the last three paragraphs were supposed to be a continuous quote in my prior post.
Posted by: Lurker of sorts at August 20, 2008 2:27 PM
Exactly right, KHarn. That never seems to get mentioned. If I am going to pay four bucks per gallon, at least let's keep it in the U.S. Hey Nine Percent Nancy, how about THAT?
Drill HERE Drill NOW Pay LESS!
Oh, and good point Bryherb, but really...Maher must be seriously unstable if he things we "can't be governed". Imperialism, Fascism or Totalitarianism are about the only options for a group that "can't be governed". What a knucklehead Maher is.
Posted by: matt at August 20, 2008 3:38 PM
Bill Maher is to dumb to be an American. He is a fool like obama and the rest of the idiots they call liberals.
Posted by: Norman at August 20, 2008 8:15 PM
SHUNHA-
I can see your mistake because Larry King's mouth has pretty much dried shut and he mumbles.
The quote is from HL Mencken.

Exactly. They are people with enough money to entrench themselves in a world of guarded communities, private schools, first rate healthcare and exclusive playgrounds. Their neighborhoods and property values are not destroyed, their jobs are not lost, their children's schools are not turned into gang meeting places, their local clinics are not swamped and closed down from the "diversity" they are so happy to foist on the ignorant peons. They experience all of the good and don't have to live with any of the bad elements of multiculturalism. It would be interesting to see whether attitudes changed if overnight, all acting, journalist, political pundit and crap talk show jobs went to anyone but Americans.

Americans are "too dumb to be governed"
Great! Cut the size of government to a minimum and give back all the dumb liberties and dumb freedoms it takes away!
If only someone would tell Rudd the same thing, we might be able to smoke in bars again in Australia, and have jobs in the gas industry.
