Yet Another Gaping Hole in Al Gore's Consensus
Today's Right Wing News features an informative interview with Dennis Avery, co-author of Unstoppable Global Warming: Every 1500 Years. A few highlights:
The very mild warming that the earth experienced over the last century: does that have more to do with mankind's activities or the sun?
It seems like it must be the sun. The reason we say that is because 70% of the warming we've had since 1850, when the Little Ice Age ended — 70% of that warming came before 1940. 85% of the human emitted greenhouse gasses came after 1940. In fact, the net warming of the earth since 1940 is a miniscule 2/10 of 1 degree celsius.…
[W]ould it be fair to say that for the next decade, global temperatures are not going to get hotter than they were in 1998?
They are likely to trend slowly downward not just for the next decade, but for the next 3 decades.
Many global warming alarmists say there is a scientific consensus on global warming, that almost everyone agrees with them, almost unanimously among scientists. Is that true?
…With the temperatures scheduled for a 25 year cooling, I think the consensus just went out the window. I think the consensus people have just run off a cliff like Wile E. Coyote in the Roadrunner cartoons and they're in mid-air with their feet spinning madly while they wait for the earth to smash them to the ground far below.
Now, we regularly hear doomsday predictions about the terrible effects global warming is going to cause 50-100 years from now. How do they come up with those predictions and how much validity do you think they have?
I think they pull their predictions out of their hats and I don't think they have any validity whatsoever.…
No wonder the liberal elite has such a sense of urgency regarding imposing exorbitant taxes and suffocating regulations in the name of the global warming hoax. The wheels are coming off of it fast. There are a lot of gullible fools out there, but how long can our overlords get away with lying about the weather?

It is apparently very easy for people to believe that with all of our machines, fuel consumption, trash generation, etc that we MUST be killing the planet. I say this given the relative ease with which the "warmers" have gotten the gullible to believe that the planet is doomed unless we spend billions of dollars to chop the legs out from under our economy, leading to billions of dollars more in lost growth. This says less about the warmers salesmanship and more about the terrible state of education in general, thanks largely to the moonbats running public education.
When I was in college, my English Comp teacher probably did more to teach critical thinking skills than any teacher I ever had (and I didn't go to public school; it isn't only public education that suffers). What we wrote had to show that we understood and interpreted what we used as source material, pointing out flaws and biases along the way. The ironic thing is that this teacher was a moonbat of the first order (a Chomsky fanatic, natch). She probably thought that teaching us to think critically would allow us to see through the "lies and hidden agendas" of the evil conservatives who had been running the country (Reagan and Bush I).
It worked, but not in the direction she intended it to. Rather than make me into a good little liberal, I began to see that the moonbat left didn't just tell as many lies as the right (and they lie, too), but their lies were more subversive and less grounded in anything approaching rationality. The falsehoods, dishonesty, and hidden agendas of the warmers are so obvious to me that I no longer see the environmental message at all, only the guilt, self-hatred, and of course the lustful grab for power.
So why the hell don't the rest them see it? What will it take for the average, publicly-educated person to see the global warming hoax for what it is: a manufactured crisis meant to transfer wealth and power to the liberal elite at the expense of everyone else (including liberals not in the elite!)? I have the feeling that Al the Gore could come right out and say that this was all plot to make him rich and relevant again, and people would still believe the planet is in peril (CNN has much to answer for, and Anderson Cooper should know better). Seriously, what would do it?

People don't WANT to see global warming as a hoax. They LIKE it. Global warming is a coherent tale of Sin and Redemption - one of the most powerful concepts in human existence. A terrible catastrophe awaits us for the wrongs we've done to the planet, and to less fortunate people all over the global in stealing their resources for our material gain. (the sin). But if we repent, right the wrongs by transferring our wealth to others and making superficial gestures toward fixing the planet, then all will be well (redemption). Like all religions, it has a magnetic, powerful attractive force. And like all religions it is based on "faith", not "facts". The global warming faithful could not care less what the facts show - they are in the process of redeeming themseves through repentence and empty gestures. When they've achieved redemption, they will continue their buying sprees and fossil fuel consumption and then we will be on to polar bears, rain forests, or whatever the next crisis-catastrophy-apocalypse du jour is going to be.

Hence cap and trade. Got it.
This actually makes a lot of sense as a moonbat cause. To moonbats, religion is evil, unless it is a "nontraditional" (in the Western world) religion. The global warming hoax bears all the hallmarks of a religion, right down to call for crucifixion of "blasphemers" who speak out against it.
Maybe someone should remind them that nature-worship is one of the oldest forms of religion known to man. They will drop global warming like a bad habit!

If the "global waring" crowd was SINCERE in their beliefs, they would be acknowledgeing the cooling trend and TAKING CREDIT for it! Properly used, this would assure them power for many years to come.
But no, they fighting to keep the lie alive. Why? we can only assume it's to achieve the communist dream of bringing the United States down, since the "gw" people are demanding Marxist powers for the Federal government. One problem with that is that many of the Liberals only want to humiliate President Bush and destroy his political career, they don't want to wreck America, they actually think that they are doing this to HELP America!
More and more, the whole Liberal movement is coming off like the old joke whose punch-line is "it seemed like a good idea at the time".

The religion angle is the key here. I've never had such intense, tantrum-like negative reaction from people like I've had when I DARE to disagree that MAN IS KILLING THE PLANET WITH A FEVER.
They lose control. They look at you like you're the lineal descendant of Judas Iscariot. They froth and hiss and get red in the face. It's as if they CANNOT IMAGINE ANYONE IN ANY WAY DISAGREEING WITH THEM.
Yes, the left is certainly using GW as a tool to derail our economy. But the TRUE BELIEVERS (i.e. dupes) are scarier still. They won't give it up even if the hardcore left does. These folks are INVESTED, they are THE FAITHFUL. The new religion, ideed!
