Wisdom of the Obamessiah
How fortunate we are that the Obamessiah deigns to shower his enlightened insights down upon us. His latest pearl of wisdom:
Understand this: Instead of worrying about whether … uh … immigrants can learn English […] you need to make sure your child can speak Spanish. […] You know, it's embarrassing […] it's embarrassing when, when uh … you … when Europeans come over here. They all speak English, they speak French, they speak German. And then we go over to Europe … and uh [meaningless gurgling noise as he struggles to speak English without a teleprompter] and all we's can say is, "Merci beaucoup."
Now wonder Obama and his gang hate America so much. It's always embarrassing him in front of Europeans.
Why we should waste precious time learning the languages of countries in decline when we already speak the one language people around the world are most likely to know is not explained. Nonetheless, bashing America in favor of Europe is always good for hearty applause from the sort of idiots who support this jackass:

How many languages does the Obamassiah speak?
Posted by: V the K at July 9, 2008 12:11 PM
What a jerk.
Posted by: forest at July 9, 2008 12:11 PM
You mean uh...er...ummm..ahh... "DOES obama speak a language?", right?
Posted by: rosie at July 9, 2008 12:28 PM
Yea but our only alternative is McCain who probably agrees with him.

When people come to America they should speak American. I really don't give a damn what a bunch of European dhimmi nancyboys think.
This inarticulate rube makes W look like a toastmaster.
I don't understand why we keep hearing what a wonderful and powerful speaker the Obamessiah is. I find him...annoying...at best, and...uh,uh,...

Maybe instead of worrying about bilingualism (which many Americans are to an extent in Spanish, French and other languages) we should be pushing for many of them to actually learn English fluently first. Especially in our cities among those who have English as a first language.
If you try teaching someone a new language when they don't fully grasp their own you're just asking for fail. But the Obama worshippers wouldn't understand that...no. PC-ness makes the world a better place!

And they say G W Bush is a poor speaker!
This is what happens when you are desperately trying to calculate your words to keep multiple voting blocks (that are exact opposites of each other) happy. In B Hussein Obama's case, the task is impossible, and you see what you get: A bunch of senseless drivel. ( That or the guy is an idiot. )

What slays me about that point of view is that only needing to know English is an efficiency, not a disadvantage. I can pick up the phone and call anywhere from coast to coast, a 3000 mile distance, with confidence I'll be able to communicate with anyone who picks up the phone (usually). Try that in Europe.
It doesn't seem to occur to these people that the time and effort required to learn other languages is time and effort that can't be spent on something else. Why having to spend extra time and effort learning how to communicate is considered an asset, I'm sure I don't know....

"This inarticulate rube makes W look like a toastmaster."
I'm sure the president can cook a slice of bread.
HA!
Posted by: KHarn at July 9, 2008 1:36 PM
Well...uh, the uh...message I'm, uh, trying to...um...get across is, uh...Obama=0.
Kristy, it makes sense. Can't sue the writers of the Bible, so one has to sue the publisher. They probably have more money anyway.

Learning a foreign language helps a student to become more proficient in English. My school requires all 9th graders to take Latin. Foreign language is part of a well-rounded education.
Obama has the right idea, but for all the wrong reasons. He wants Americans to learn Spanish so we can accomodate illegal workers. He's signaling that he doesn't believe in secure borders, or even the concept of a nation-state. He defers to Europe because he's an ardent socialist and would prefer to impose European style socio-economics on the U.S. Fortunately, everytime he opens his mouth without a telepromter, he needs a crowbar to extract his foot.

If this guy becomes president we are going to become the laughing stock of the world.

I agree. I learned Spanish (I think it was the Cuban dialect) at our church's pre-school, but since I didn't have much chance to use it, I forgot most of it and failed Spainish Class in Jr. High.

In his wisdom and foresight, Benjamin Franklin founded schools which placed an emphasis on English, because he understood the critical necessity of one language for a large and growing nation of immigrants. As Rob Banks points out above, the result today, that a salesman in Maine can call a warehouse in Oregon to check on a shipment and be instantly understood, has proved to be a tremendous boon for domestic business, and is one of our greatest strengths.
The success of English is remarkable, and reflected in the fact that it is the language of international business, as well as the web.
Studying other languages is fun and useful. It stimulates the brain and introduces a different way of thinking about sentence structure and methods of expression. But for business and communication purposes, undermining the English language is akin to killing the goose that lays the golden egg, at least in the States. As to who truly had (has) the best interests of America at heart, Benjamin Franklin or Barack Obama, I choose Franklin.

Well, all isn't lost yet. Apparently, most Americans disagree with Obama.
I also note that he's starting to slip in the polls.

I will consider another language a reasonable substitute for English and worth learning the day I see a flag on the moon, on a space craft circling a planet or traveling almost 40 years and billions of miles into space from one of those non-English speaking countries.
Language is, after all, a way of expressing the level of thought a culture has. The greater the thoughts the greater a need to expand the language to express new ideas and complex thoughts.
I am tired of this liberal effort to dumb down our culture to the status quo of the mediocrity of nations smaller than many of our states.Especially our neighbor whose culture has produced people trying to escape its failures.

English is also the language of aviation. All airline pilots and air traffic controllers the world over are required to speak and understand english.
kharn,
I hope you were being facetious and you do know what a toastmaster is.
Posted by: steven at July 9, 2008 5:54 PM
Obama doesn't speak Texan.
The damned hypocrite.

America is always wrong or somehow deficient in B. Hussein Obama's eyes. We're always the subject of being corrected and shown to be imperfect in some way. NEVER praised!
Seems to me that the POTUS should be prouder of his country and brag about its good characteristics not endlessly criticize the USA and its people!
Please don't try to feed me any BS about how he's really being patriotic by showing the world our imperfections.
Barack Hussein Obama dislikes America!
Posted by: Shooter1001 at July 10, 2008 4:39 AM
I'm shocked Obama asked us to teach our children Spanish and not Ebonics.
Obama ought to worry about teaching American blacks how to speak in proper English.
It kind of helps when fishing the job market.

"Seems to me that the POTUS should be prouder of his country and brag about its good characteristics not endlessly criticize the USA and its people!"
so the president is a cheerleader in your eyes?
"Please don't try to feed me any BS about how he's really being patriotic by showing the world our imperfections."
Believe me shooter, our imperfections are already well observed and known by the rest of the world. We're not fooling anyone...

PS: I haven't checked lately, but "Toastmaster" used to be a brand name.

I'm glad I can bring a little chuckle to your dreary Liberal life!

According to Newt, Obama doesn't speak a second language. Also, in his district in Illinois, they have the highest rate of young people who can't read English in the country. Kind of sick when the ObamaMessiah goes into elitist mode!
