Newspapers Retract

No wonder the press is so hostile to the capitalist system that makes our lifestyle possible. The free market isn't being kind to the dinosaur media, which is having a hard time adapting to the fluidity of a dynamic marketplace.

A Project for Excellence in Journalism study finds that newspapers are retracting:

Stories are shorter overall, the study found, and staff coverage tends to focus on local and community news.
"America's newspapers are narrowing their reach and their ambitions and becoming niche reads," the study said.
The results show that papers carry fewer stories on foreign and national news and devote less space to business, science and arts reporting, and many have reduced the crossword puzzle and eliminated television and stock listings.

Soon the mighty newspapers that pride themselves on controlling our opinions will be reduced to community fliers, devoted to keeping locals up to date on bake sales and bingo schedules.

It must stick in the craw of editors to have to provide readers with something they can use. Under socialism, they could shovel down their leftist propaganda from on high, and the government would pay them whether anyone wanted to read it or not.

Bake sales, flea markets, farmer's markets, bingo schedules, used cars and trucks, garage sales, GUN SALES (in most cities in the right States) - - ARE actually pretty important stuff.

But that's just me.
