Moonbattery Piles Up on Montreal Sidewalks
Moonbattery is making a mess of Montreal sidewalks. Acting on a union complaint, a labor arbitrator has decreed that sweeping sidewalks is the exclusive domain of blue collar workers, striking down a bylaw requiring owners to clean up in front of their shops and apartments.
According to property-owner Peter Sergakis, this means sidewalks won't get clean:
The blue-collar workers wouldn't bend to pick up a cigarette butt. They're spoiled. I don't have much faith that they're going to clean the sidewalk. I think we're going to go back to the dirt.
However…
[Union president Michel] Parent said the city should hire more workers if it wants a tidy city.
To actually get anything clean using union labor, it's going to take a lot more workers:
In the winter of 2006, as potholes cratered Montreal streets, an internal city investigation secretly followed three work crews. The 10 workers enjoyed marathon lunch breaks but only managed to fill nine potholes over three days.
There you have it, socialism in a nutshell: The government expropriates money to pay bums to do nothing while the world goes to seed.
On tips from Michael W. and Lyle.

I worked under union work rules at a steel mill for a couple of summers. It was ridiculous. Sleeping in the truck, spotting deer on night shift, old guys telling us to slow down "or else the boss will give us another job after lunch". And "safety" was used as a pretext to get the young guys to slow down all the time.

The problem is much, much worse with City of Toronto workers. I know several people who've worked for city of toronto: 3 hour lunch breaks, long naps, going home early or for most of the day, all while being paid way too much, at full time hours

So John Kerry uses the racist epithet "tar baby" in a live interview. Do you think this is a career ender for him?
Me neither. Wait! I think I hear the outrage from the mainstream media...

I’ve been watching this drama of hope unfold over at No Quarters for about a month. Finally, this is getting picked up by the fringe print media.

After college, I worked in the offices of a state agency. One time, our group was moved from one side of the floor of our building to the other. We picked up our computers and moved them over.
The union filed a grievance, claiming it was THEIR job to move all office furniture. So, we had to carry all of our stuff back across the floor to where we had been. Then, we waited for a week until the union guys got around to doing it.

9 pot holes filled in 3 days? Thats better than they union guys who work for PENN DOT in Pennsylvania - they spend half their time leaning on shovels. Drive thru any PA construction zone and youll see what I mean.
