Judge Squashes Drilling in Hard-Hit Michigan
What will it take for people finally to rise up against the autocratic left-wing judges who habitually impose their will in opposition to the populace and its elected representatives? Maybe high enough gas prices will do it. Here a black-robed kook in New Mogadishu does his bit to keep Michigan's economy in the dumps and prices flying high:
A federal judge has overturned a decision by the U.S. Forest Service to allow oil and gas drilling near a forest and a river in Michigan's northern Lower Peninsula.
U.S. District Judge David Lawson of Detroit ruled Thursday the agency had acted "arbitrarily and capriciously" in 2005 by giving Savoy Energy LP of Traverse City a permit to drill an exploratory well near the Au Sable River's south branch. […]
Forest supervisor Leanne Marten said when approving Savoy's application that the project wouldn't significantly harm the environment and the company would be required to keep noise to a minimum.
But the judge didn't care to hear it, having decided that drilling for the precious oil we so desperately need might inconvenience a bird called Kirtland's warbler.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management approved the project shortly after the Forest Service granted the permit. But it has been on hold since Lawson issued an order in December 2005 blocking the company from clearing land to get started.
As we are beginning to learn, the economy simply cannot function if every productive venture has to run a gauntlet of moonbat judges with little or no accountability who can suppress anything deemed insufficiently progressive on a whim. If it's this bad now, imagine what it will be like after a few years of Barack Obama appointing judges.

On a tip from Sean G.

With funding from George Soros, the moonbat left is out to make Michigan's courts even more radical.
Judge Lawson, by the way, is a Clinton appointee.

Cute bird pic Van! Actually, birds are very resillant creatures. It is very hard to mess with them because they adapt so well. I really don't know how our country will survive with judges such as this. In business, we listen to the subject matter experts before rendering decisions that affect economic conditions. If we didn't, we wouldn't be in business long. This is just pure stupidity.

This proves once again that, even if those idiots in DC approved drilling in ANWR or anywhere else. The judicial oligarchy that truly runs the country would simply overrule them!It is ironic, or maybe prophetic that this story appears on Bastille Day. Perhaps we should take a page from the French and try something similar over here/
Guillotine-Liberal Judges...Some assembly required.

I'm sure he got a personal phone call from Nancy PolPotLucy thanking him on his decision.

I believe the conversation goes something like this:
LIBERAL: "You can't drill your way out of this problem."
CONSERVATIVE: "Yes we can; more oil will mean more supply, this will mean lower prices. It's basic economics."
LIBERAL: "No, I mean 'YOU CAN'T DRILL your way out of this problem'."
CONSERVATIVE: "Oh, NOW I see what you mean."

OK, Your Honor (snicker, tee hee). I guess rather than new oil or natural gas drilling in the Michigan Basin, I guess people can go cut down more trees to burn to keep warm and for cooking purposes.
The birds will be real happy about that, won't they!
The use of oil, natural gas, and coal is one of the reasons our forests are rebounding from the cuttings of the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries. We don't need to burn wood for energy on a mass-scale, anymore. That is unless the NIMBYs manage to keep getting their way.
