Johnny Rotten Holds Forth on Foreign Policy and Religion

The Sex Pistols were great — for about half an hour. But that was over 30 years ago. Unfortunately, Johnny Rotten is still around:

Sex Pistols singer Johnny Rotten was booed by fans on the final night of EXIT Festival, after encouraging the crowd to "Praise Allah".
In a bizarre and misjudged gaff midway through their Sunday night set, the ageing rocker asked the crowd: "So who thinks America should still be in Iraq?"
The question was met by boos and jeers, prompting Rotten to wave his arms in mock Muslim prayer chanting, "Praise Allah, Praise Allah" repeatedly.
The main stage crowd were initially taken aback by the mystifying gesture, before boos began echoing around the crowd.

You have to wonder where he would have gone next if the crowd had followed along with "Praise Allah." Hail Satan? Or would that be redundant?

The longer has-been pop singers hang around past their expiration dates, the more pathetic their servile pandering to moonbattery.

At least he won't be eligible to vote for Obama.

Maybe he was mocking the crowd? Hard to imagine him being a fan of Allah.

Gee, and ol' Rotten was just recently talking about how much safer he feels in the U.S. as opposed to Britain and I actually applauded him for his sense...

And he just got all of his teeth fixed, Conservateen...he said it was for "health reasons" more than aesthetic reasons.

Of course rotten was just trying to stir things up...'cos he knows just how freaked out any mention of Allah will get you. Mission accomplished.

Yeah...this one I'm going to have to give to Rotten, I think. His whole gig is to be controversial...and being his age, "youthful outrage" is pretty hard to muster.

Note to future rockers: Your blueprint should be Jerry Garcia, not Johnny Rotten. When you do the whole "youth-angst-hair-rebellion" thing, you paint yourself into a corner and look like an idiot at 50+. Jerry had it right: START by looking like a sedate old guy, and you've got your long-term career all set.

Sex Pistols were cool (until they hooked up with the no-talent loser Sid Vicious). PIL was cool in it's day too. I think John Lydon was just trying to piss people off. He's made a career of it and it's always been one of his trademarks. He's a tough guy to gauge politically. I've seen him on TV ridiculing anti-abortion protesters AND animal rights activists alike. This latest thing probably should not be taken seriously.

It's hard to get any context from the article, but I wouldn't be surprised. I'm not sure you could exactly call Rotten a conservative, but he's never shown much sympathy for liberals, either.

Rob and Refuter make good points...Johnny has made a career out of pissing people off.

Rotten's as anti-Islamofascism as they come and not be in the GOP. I read the article as Rotten mocking a crowd he disdained in the first place.

Rotten telling the crowd to praise Allah was a dig at them cowtowing to Muslims, it was true Punk in that it confronted the sanctimonious hippy left and exposed them for the fascist hypocrite they are, just as the Punk movement did in the late 70s.

I think this was Rotten at his best.
