It's as if progressives believe so firmly in the moral imperative of recycling, they even recycle their symbols.

I used to do some graphic design work. There is no way you could miss that unless you were (a) a complete moron or (b) educated in U.S. or British public schools, where history means "What horrible crimes the U.S. has foisted on other countries and the environment". In that case, you actually might NOT know what that design stood for.
