Enviro-kooks like this believe that human life has no meaning, and that all we do while we are alive is pillage the planet of its resources. So what, then, are those resources for if they are not to be used? Why do we have the capacity to figure out what to do with them, and to find new uses for things that were previously thought to be useless? What will the planet do with them? Nothing! The planet will do nothing with them because it can't! "Greenies" treat the planet as if it is a sentient being. The planet is a complex and diverse ecosystem capable of supporting life. Know what that means, dummies? That's us! WE'RE LIFE!

It is certainly a bad thing to be wasteful and to poison the environment, not because it is a "sin against Gaia," but because it spoils the quality of life. More concretely, in our society things have costs involved. Waste means you are spending more of your own finite resources for other possibly finite resources you didn't really need. That doesn't mean we need to be paranoid about everything we do because we don't want to "deplete the planet." The planet has no other purpose that we can see other than to support us! We should encourage conservation, and renewable fuels, and all of that, but not having children? Seriously?

So if we cut down on having children, whose paychecks will our governments be able to raid for all of the social services they are promising us in return for letting them play god?

Listen, I'm as conservative as they come and in my mid-fifties. I remember when there were something like 3 billion people on earth. In some ways, having a smaller global population would be a good thing. Easier on resources, less crowding in cities, etc.

The PROBLEM is: not everyone is onboard with that idea. You only get better educated, higher income people thinking having a few less kids is a good idea (I'm talking "fewer" kids, not these morons that won't have any because "it hurts the planet"). The less educated, third-world types (and some religious groups who shall remain nameless but whose initials start with ISLAM) go full bore with as many kids as possible. The results are what you see in places as diverse as Los Angeles and Brussels. A shrinking (mostly) white population and a burgeoning "ethnic" group.

What to do? EVERYone go full bore having ten kids? At some point, the numbers won't work. You cannot infinitely increase the population. You also can't have forced population control like in China. You can't depend on people being reasonable and saying "let's stabilize the worlds population at...", esp. when big numbers mean taking over a country (as in L.A. Reconquista, baby.)

I'm not sure what will happen, but I'm fairly sure it won't be pleasant no matter how it goes down.

Matt, the answer is to encourage native born Americans to have as many children as possible. For every American child that's aborted, you can bet an illegal immigrant will take its place.

They're just trying to decrease the native population (primarily white) so that third worlders will move in and attach themselves to the welfare state, thereby securing future Democrat voters.

Anon, I see your point, but the bottom line is what we can do? There is zero benefit to (I'll call it the "educated population") reduce their reproductive habits if third-worlders are going to breed like rabbits.

On the other hand, we can't all get into a "let's have as many kids as humanly possible to preserve the race" game either.

Governmental restrictions are scary, totalitarian and don't really work (see China). Abortions (no matter what your view of them) are not the way to go, and certainly a lousy method of "birth control".

So what do we do? How do we stop a take-over of (in my case) the SW United States by attrition? I don't have a good answer. I CAN tell you that the uneducated hispanic masses coming in here could give a monkey's about "Global Warming" or "pollution" or "over population".

When I tell folks I have four kids they ask "Oh my God, why?" I say it's to keep up with illegal immigration. You should see their faces.
