Congress Apologizes for the Sins of the White Man
Here's what Congress has been doing instead of alleviating our economic woes by lightening up on drilling restrictions:
The House on Tuesday issued an unprecedented apology to black Americans for the wrongs committed against them and their ancestors who suffered under slavery and Jim Crow segregation laws.
In case it isn't obvious that this was a cheap political ploy:
The resolution, passed by voice vote, was the work of Tennessee Democrat Steve Cohen, the only white lawmaker to represent a majority black district. Cohen faces a formidable black challenger in a primary face-off next week.
Cohen even tried to join the Congressional Black Caucus, but they wouldn't let him, because he's Caucasian. Try to imagine a White Caucus that blacks couldn't join.
Now that America has officially apologized for evil deeds done to people who died a long time ago by other people who died a long time ago, can we leave the neurotic race guilt behind us at last?
Of course not, because moonbattery is like a fire: the more you feed it, the hungrier it gets. Next up will be renewed calls for "reparations" — i.e., openly race-based wealth transfers, as opposed to the relatively subtle race-based wealth transfer called welfare. Worse still, an utterly unqualified, anti-American Marxist may be installed in the White House to punish the white man for the sins of his ancestors.
In the long run, not even characters like Steve Cohen and Obama will benefit from this lunacy. When the ship goes down, all hands will be lost.
On tips from CoderInCrisis and Wiggins.

Soon we will be forced to suffer the legal taking of our property to will it to others to show how sorry we are. Even though my people and most of their people were not even here when it happened.
But the last point above is based on fact, not emotion and liberal guilt (socialism).
I feel no guilt over slavery. It did not happen at the hands of my people.
Get over it Nancy PolPotLucy and quit pandering to the black vote.
Next, Congress gives back CA, NV, AZ and NM to Mexico to apologize................

This apology is a warm-up exercise; the Big Apology will come in November. But it still won't be enough.

And will the trash in congress pay the oppressed blacks with money out of their own pockets? No. The taxpayers get the bill. As always. I'm sick of these morons pandering, lying, and stealing.

Looks like John Edwards is gonna be very busy come November.

I want to make things right. I hereby promise to pay one million dollars for every slave I own plus an additional one million dollars for every year you were a slave. But, on the other hand, blacks burned down half of LA because they didn't like a jury verdict. Don't they owe me something?
OT Brits will need to have their trees inspected under proposed guidlines:

If there is to be an apology for Jim Crow and segregation (there shouldn't be) it should be the Democrats who do it since they were official Democrat Party policy of the time.

Reparations - Money taken from people who never owned slaves paid out to people who never were slaves.
Posted by: V the K at July 30, 2008 5:57 AM
I would suggest DNA tests of those wanting reparations and from those from whom they are to be taken from to identify who is most closely related to the slave masters.
The results might shock.

I hate to see the democrats do this to the black community. They're saying that everything is the white man's fault, therefore he owes you money. Its a total lie, and the blacks believe it. They wallow in squaller because they think everything thats gone wrong is because of mean ol whitey. They'll never try to rise up and become great. They'll just sit there, collect welfare checks and voting democrat, making the problem worse. Black people, rise up against these terrible beliefs and show America your greatness!

Exactly, VK, exactly. But now that we've officially "apologized," you know reparations are on the way.
So tell me, what happens when the reparations are paid and everyone's life isn't magically wonderful? Another round of payoffs? Should we just give them the keys to the treasury now?

The Civil War was fought and won at a great and bloody price. As a descendant of several who lost their lives freeing slaves they never owned, I ant a Thank You. In fact, I demand a thank you. And I demand it on behalf of white America. It is they who owe us, not the other way around.

conservativeteen, you've got it exactly right. The sooner all "oppressed" minorities stop feeling sorry for themselves and get up and do something with their lives, the better off they will be. Do they think that people liked the Polish immigrants of the early 1900s? Or the Irish? Or the Chinese, or Japanese? Hell no! They were discriminated against by the American people, too! They lived in neighborhoods comprised of mostly their "own kind", and worked in the crappiest, least glamorous jobs there were.
Did they piss and moan? Maybe, but they didn't call a press conference to do it. They kept their heads down and worked. They saved their money. They bought houses, and took care of them. Most importantly, they made sure they could put their kids through college so they wouldn't have to kill themselves at the factory 80 hours a week like their old man. And an amazing thing happened in the process - not only were the future generations better off than their ancestors, but those ethnic groups gained good reputations. They were productive, hard-working, honest people.
Victim culture produces nothing but generations of more victims. The ones that realize that and break out of the cycle are better off for it. I think Barack Obama is a phony and a fraud, not to mention a filthy statist and greedy thieving pig, but one thing I will give him is that he took the opportunities offered and ran with them. I don't agree with many of his choices or any of his beliefs, but he at least had the drive to do something with his life. If anything positive can come out of the Obaba experience, maybe black America will see that it is possible to do something with their lives. I'm not holding my breath, though.

I'm Italian-American. I want my apology and reparations for Sacco and Vanzetti. (circa 1920)
In addition, I want my apology and reparations for the lynching of Italians in New Orleans (who were falsely accused of murdering David Hennessy) (October 1890) There was so much prejudice and anger and hatred to Italian immigrants. That was racial profiling.
I, along with the other millions of Italian-Americans, am waiting for my apology and my reparations. I think one million dollars will be enough. That should cover my pain and suffereing.

I think one million dollars will be enough. That should cover my pain and suffereing.
That's the problem with people unused to the victim culture - we think too small. You need to temporarily remove your common sense particle so you can think like the average leftist. It goes something like this: I'm a victim. Someone should compensate me for my pain. I'm a victim. It's not fair. Apologies are not enough; they can't erase the grave injustices perpetrated against my people. Because I'm the victim here. (See how easy this is?) You're offering how much? $1 million? OK, that'll work...
To start with. Don't worry, I'll let you know when to stop bowing, scraping, and most importantly, paying. After all, it's the government's money, it has plenty to give out.

Who among us has never said "I wish the F**k we had NEVER brought those f**kers over here !!! Why the F**K didn't we leave them in the f**king jungle where they belong ???"
So yeah, I guess I am filled with regret that it happened.

The House on Tuesday issued an unprecedented apology to black Americans for the wrongs committed against them and their ancestors who suffered under slavery and Jim Crow segregation laws.
I had no idea that the Pelosi-led House had anything to do with the wrongs committed against black Americans, slavery or Jim Crow laws. It is no wonder, then, that their approval rating is so low!

I heard decades ago in history class, that the number of Union soldiers killed in the War between the States exceeded the number of actual slaves in America in 1859.
African Americans owe a big thank you to inventors like John Deering and Cyrus McCormick, and later, Henry Ford and Alfred Sloan.

You have to look at it as an opportunity. I'd recommend buying stock in RJ Reynolds (Kools) and the Hurricane Brewing Co. (Colt 45 malt likka). You'd be able to retire early!

FIRST:
I want it known that I did NOT give anyone permission to appoligise for SOME of my ancestors owning slaves. Also, I was only a child when "Jim Crow" was in effect and my family (while well-respected) had no authority to impose such laws on the community, so no appoligy is nessisary for us.
SECOND:
Will there be an appoligy for the WHITE men and women who were sent to "the Americas" as slaves by the British government, or for those who sold themselves temporarily into slavery for passage?
THIRD:
Will there be an appoligy to the Southern people for looting and burning our homes, murdering our civilian population and imposing poverty on what was once the most prosperous region in the nation for almost forty years? (I'm not holding my breath on this one)
FORTH:
Because the answer to the above is always "because you had slaves", then why the hell didn't your ancestors LET US GO AND BE RID OF US since we had declaired ourselves A FOREIGN COUNTRY that had no more intrest in the United States than as a neighbor?
Posted by: KHarn at July 30, 2008 2:56 PM
Historically, the Republican Party was formed as an anti-slavery party, leaving the Democrats to defend the 'peculiar institution'. Post Bellum, the 'Jim Crow' dhimmi laws were instituted to keep the Democrat majority in place. Some of the most vehement racists of the Civil rights era were highly placed in the Democrat Party.
Any reparations that are to be given should be taken from the Democrat party campaign funds.

Remind me again how many slaves the US Government owned?
Oh, that's right- NONE!!!
Posted by: Bob Mc at July 30, 2008 11:31 PM
As someone who is descended from people who owned slaves, I could personally give a flying f&ck what people think. THEY owned the slaves, not ME! They also lost their property in the Civil War. Several of my poorer ancestors, who never owned a single slave, lost their lives in the War (4 of 5 brothers in fact).
Just wait, this is another step towards outlawing any reminder of 'slavery' which will start with any symbol of the Confederate States of America. As a historian, I think this is an utter atrocity!
Furthermore, it was the black's fellow tribes in Africa that sold them into slavery to whites. Had they not been brought here they would still have been slaves in Africa.
Posted by: Brooklyn Red Leg at July 31, 2008 3:50 AM
Yeah, slavery sucked for the ones who were slaves, but water under the bridge. For those descendents of slaves alive now, the slavery of their ancestors was the best thing that ever happened to them. If it hadn't been for slavery, where would they be now?
Sitting in front of a mud hut with their ribs sticking out and flies on their faces while Sally Struthers waddles by screeching about their plight? Their arms in a pile in a village in Rwanda? In an epidemic of AIDS, Ebola, flesh-eating virus, etc? In Zimbabwe reminiscing about the good old days of apartheid? I mean, whitey could be a real asshole but at least he knew how to run a country and feed the people.
Even on welfare these people are living like kings compared to what they would be, and most of them are doing a lot better than that. Thanks are in order, not demands.

Some would say that West African countries were devastated by the slave trade and colonialism, and have never fully recovered. Probably not you guys, though.

When the ship goes down, all hands will not be lost. Who are you kidding? The Captain and the crew will get the lifeboats and start over somewhere else. The rest of us will get the iceberg and the deep.
Posted by: Paden Cash at July 31, 2008 6:35 AM
What does historic stupidity in Africa have to do with current stupidity in the US? Devastated? Some entrepreneurs sold for export, a, um, "commodity", bringing in foreign money. Made the pie bigger while simultaneously reducing the number of slices it had to be cut into. Win-win! (OK, tongue out of cheek now)... colonialism provided these benighted rubes an example of civilization and orderly society (albeit with some exploitation along the way) not that any of them learned anything from it, oh no! It's not colonialism that devastated Africa, it was returning it to home rule by a bunch of corrupt incompetents.

What I posted before is worth repeating:
This reminded me of a proclamation written by Walter Williams entitled,
Proclamation of Amnesty and Pardon Granted to All Persons of European Descent
Walter is such a great guy. Too bad he's too smart to run for President. Yes, Walter E. Williams, Gracious and Generous Grantor.

Can't they go after the Arabs and Blacks who actually took them prisoner and put them in chains BEFORE selling them to the evil whites???
How's come those guys get a pass?? Could it be because they could not give less of a rat's ass and the only thing they will get from THEM is a big steaming cup of STFU with a side order of STFD ????

Christ on a crutch, they were sold into slavery by their own people you sh&t-flinging f&cktard!
They could not be devastated by the slave trade because it was a tribal practice to sell off defeated foes anyway!
And btw, moron, there were white Europeans enslaved by the North African Berbers, also known as the Barbary Coast Pirates. That included people of England, Spain, Portugal, Sicily, Italy, Sardinia, Corsica AND even The United States! Why else do you think we stomped their asses into the ground in the First and Second Barbary Wars (look them up if you have to).
Posted by: Brooklyn Red Leg at July 31, 2008 8:33 AM
Slavery was also practiced by the American indians BEFORE whitey got here!
What about the Jews in ancient Egypt? What about the slave labor camps in Nazi Germany, or Soviet Russia, or Red China, ect.?
Will you go after THEM next? Where do you draw the line, Liberals?

Ziggy, I remember an actual bumper sticker that stated something like the following:
IF I KNEW IT WOULD BE THIS MUCH TROUBLE, I'D OF PICKED MY OWN COTTON!
Posted by: Bryherb at July 31, 2008 1:13 PM
I've often wondered just who the dimwit was that decided those lazy good-for-nothings would make good slaves in the first place. Of course, anyone with any dignity wouldn't make a good slave, but then these have demonstrated repeatedly that they have no dignity, so it must just be laziness and stupidity. This also explains the corruption and incompetence endemic to African leadership. A few obvious examples: Idi Amin, Robert Mugabe, even everyone's "hero" Nelson Mandela. Does anyone have any counterexamples? I'd like to know.
If I can't find the bumpersticker extant, I'll make my own: "If I'd known it would be this much of a problem I'd've picked my own damn cotton". Look for it on Cafepress.
