UN Cracks Down on Criticism of Islam

Posted by Dave Blount at June 20, 2008 8:38 AM

The tasteless joke known as the UN Human Rights Council has forbidden criticism of Muslim human rights abuses.

Muslim countries have won a battle to prevent Islam from being criticised during debates by the UN Human Rights Council. Religions deserve special protection because any debate about faith is bound to be "very complex, very sensitive and very intense", council President Doru-Romulus Costea said Wednesday. […] Only religious scholars should be allowed to discuss matters of faith, he told journalists in Geneva. While Costea's ban applies to all religions, it was prompted by Muslim countries complaining about references to Islam.

Since other religions exhort people to do good instead of evil, only Islam requires special protection from the malignant UN.

This means there is to be no more complaining about genital mutilation and honor killings among Muslims. Oh, and the UN Human Rights Council does not allow itself to criticize sharia or fatwas. But it's okay to criticize the atrocities of September 11, since that was the work of George Bush, according to UN bureaucrats.

If the nightmare of a universal caliphate ever becomes real, it will happen in part because American taxpayers helped pave the way by funding the UN.
