The Hazards of Laughing in Airstrip One

Posted by Dave Blount at June 12, 2008 7:07 AM

Inmates of Airstrip One who seek solace in humor had better make sure they don't get carried away. Paul Cocker of Blackburn, Lancashire laughed so hard at a TV show that he fell off the couch. His downstairs neighbor heard the thud and called the police. Then it got ugly.

When officers arrived, Cocker told them he was fine. But when they started demanding personal details, he tried to shut the door on them, and soon found himself maced and handcuffed in the back of a police truck, then stripped naked and thrown in a cell.

He pleaded guilty to resisting a police officer and was given six months conditional discharge.

Let that be a lesson; it's best to assume Big Brother is always watching, even if you're just laying on the couch watching TV.
