School Paper Features Burning Old Glory
Shasta High School in Redding, California won't be publishing a student paper next year, thanks to outrage over an editorial supporting flag burning that included a front-page photo of Old Glory going up in flames.
Newspaper faculty adviser Judy Champagne squirmed and blamed the students. At least she'll still be able to continue her activities as Gay/Straight Alliance Club Advisor. Good thing the kids would be unlikely to try publishing a picture of someone torching a rainbow flag.

On a tip from Cluebat from Exodar.

I notice the article makes a big point about this being an abuse of freedom of speech, and notes with special irony that the school had in fact been teaching a unit on the First Amendment. Unfortunately for that argument, de-funding the paper is not an attack on the First Amendment. The young Stalinist who lit the flag can continue to burn flags to his heart's content. The editors and staff of the paper can continue to write whatever they so choose without fear of prosecution. The only thing that has changed is that the state is no longer going to pay for these children and their advisor to make asses of themselves.

Compared to our taxes having paid for pictures of a Cross stuffed up a pervert's ass in NY as legitimate art - this is small potatoes.
Every newspaper in America publishes pictures of every radical/terrorist group in the world every time they burn Old Glory.

You can meet the so called teacher 'Judy' in SF at the following events.
No doubt she will be leading a state funded field trip to San Franfreakshow for the 'extra credit'.
Officials have amassed a host of volunteers and city workers from other departments to enable the county clerk to issue 250 licenses per day and conduct up to 500 wedding ceremonies, according to a spokeswoman for the mayor. The office will have expanded hours, opening at 8 a.m. and closing at 8 p.m.
City Hall also will be open for marriages on June 28, the Saturday of the San Francisco Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Pride Parade and Celebration.

Imagine if someone started burning gay flags? The cries of homophobia and violations of civil rights of gays would fill the air.

Oiao, isn't that the man-hating lesbian-separatist couple who thinks of heterosexual marriage as an atavistic patriarchal institution that oppresses womyn?
