British Educrats Nix Sports Day
What sort of invertebrates will be passing themselves off as Britons in days to come? The country that went from Winston Churchill to Boy George in two generations continues its willful tailspin:
For generations falling over on a bumpy grass running track was all part of the fun of school sports day.
Nowadays health and safety concerns have deemed it an unacceptable risk.
A junior school in West Sussex has cancelled its annual summer sports day because of fears that children will trip over and hurt themselves during the events.
The headteacher has decided the surface of the school's new playing field was 'too dangerous' for the traditional three-legged, egg and spoon and sack races due to the number of cracks and holes in the ground.
The field is grass. If kids trip and fall on it during a three-legged race, that's pretty much par for the course. Or it once was.
It's hard to imagine kids raised by the Nanny State growing up to fight off the Blitz.

On a tip from Oiao.

So, British health officials spend half the time whining that children are obese and sedentary and the other half whining that they shouldn't be allowed to exercise because it's too dangerous.
Terminal.Dysfunctional. Retardation.

You know my first born is due in August.
I think I may just buy dodge ball tomorrow and start throwing it at him straight out of the womb.
Sure he may be emotionally scared, but at least he won't turn into one of these pansy-assed kids.
I can't believe how wimpy people are now a days!!!!

Searching for nothing in a void is rewarding because it's so easy to find and you can share it with everyone.

This sort of thing is self-defeating. If you don't move around much, your bones and muscles will grow weaker, and more prone to injury. Those injuries that will occur will be more serious and take longer to heal. Also, your cardiovascular system will not be as efficient, nor will your immune system.
Keeping these kids off the playground for thesake of safety is like keeping them out of the library to protect their minds.

Eric - congrats!!!!
My first grandson is now 8 months - only about another year till I take him fishing for the first time and begin teaching him to drink beer, chase girls, and cuss. And of course - his first swimming lesson when I throw him out of the boat and he has to.

up until 5 or 6 years ago, I always thought of the British as tough mf'ers. "Stiff upper lip", going to work while the bombs were falling, all that stuff. WTF happened over there??!! Seems like every day there's a windfall of new reports of this effeminate, can't-be-parodied silliness. This seems like a new low, but last week they were ripping a rare 200 year old tree out by the roots in case someone might get hurt by it, even though no one ever had. One can only imagine what next week will bring, and then it turns out to be more bizarre than could've been imagined. It's an absolute shambles over there.

You know what, you're exactly right. If our unelected communist leader, Gordon Brown, gets his own way and we hand all our powers over to the EUSSR it's going to get a lot worse.
I still can't get my head round the fact that we're releasing terrorists back onto our streets and not deporting the bstds.
What Britain needs is another leader like Churchill. Someone with common sense and good, strong, traditional values. I just hope it doesn't take another [civil] war to get someone like that in power.

You know, France felt this way after WWI and they did all right against the Blitz. I wonder who they think will save them from the next Hitler when we become the same kind of nanny state.

We're getting just as bad with coddling kids (and adults) and teaching them to be scared of everything except the authority of their parents and teachers.
And then there's the alternate definition of "coddle": To cook in water just below the boiling point: coddle eggs.

The US made a big mistake in 2003. We should have liberated England.

They should ban baseball (ball off a bat can exceed 100 mph) - very dangerous !!
They should ban football - increasing numbers of broken bones and spinal injuries.
They should ban basketball because of running/tripping hazards.
They should ban walking up and down stairs - one trip and you break your neck like that terrorist with small feet in DIE HARD.
They should ban eating on school property - one bit of food could cause someone to choke to death!
They should ban all track and field - particularly the javelin - tossing around a big pointy spear is DANGEROUS !!!
Dont laugh, I predict somewhere some day this will happen somewhere in America.

"The country that went from Winston Churchill to Boy George in two generations "
I often wonder how we (as the US is not far off) got this debased in such a short period of time. Truman was a democrat then but look at the DNC now.
The problem is not that feminism and Marxism rose in the 60s, it is that the old gate keepers allowed it free reign. Why was it that? Was their something about WWII that made the men of that generation less likely to start confrontations on the homefront? Did they just see these cultural transitions as minor youth rebellion and not a serious social shift? Was Christianity that far out of favor with the elites that any restriction on personal behavior was opposed as theocracy?

Ah, the success of Massachusetts liberal, progressive sex-ed programm Teenage girls form pact to get pregnant before graduation.

It feels more than a bit odd, but seems I may actually be on the school's side.
The field is not grass, exactly. It is a newly-acquired bit of farmland, not yet gone over to plug holes and gullies. Quite safe for walking with a bit of care, but not for much of anything more strenuous.
But I do wonder why it is that the games can not be held where they were in years past - such as last year.
