U.N. Takes Aim at Alcohol

Prohibition was one of the earliest objectives of the progressive movement. Like everything else progressives (now called "liberals") have advanced, it failed miserably. But maybe that was only because there was no World Government in place to impose it. Now we have the U.N. and its insidious subsidiary the World Health Organization, which is drawing up a scheme to restrict alcohol on a worldwide basis:

The blueprint, to be presented in two years, should include a set of recommended national measures for states. These could cover guidance on the marketing, pricing, and distribution of alcoholic drinks and public awareness [i.e., propaganda] campaigns.

Step by step, the U.N. gains ever more leverage for imposing its "guidance" on formerly sovereign nations. Muslims and moonbats most be delighted to have found a cause they can agree on, other than hatred of Western Civilization.

On a tip from xdcc.

Things seem to be looking pretty rough for Europe all the way around...

"'The harmful use of alcohol causes serious public health problems,' said Dr. Ala Alwan, WHO assistant director-general for non-communicable diseases and mental health."

Great, we've got a shi-ite deciding whether we should drink and how much we should pay for it.

Now they've done it. They're taking away our alcohol??

It's on. It's so on.

With God as my witness, I will not stand for this!

Just so we're sure who we're dealing with here, a little Googling reveals that the Global Alcohol Policy Alliance mentioned in the article is chaired by a Mr Derek Rutherford of the Institute of Alcohol Studies. That sounds very neutral and scientific, doesn't it, "studying" alcohol? Well, the IAS is a subsidiary of the Alliance House Foundation, who used to be called... the UK Temperance Movement.

The AHF itself was originally formed during the temperance movement, which was one of the largest mass movements ever seen in this country, and was linked to a number of other progressive movements (including the founding of the Labour party).

Great, now there's ANOTHER thing I have to stockpile for the day when the U.N. tries to govern America... Where the hell am I supposed to keep all the canned food, ammo, AND booze? Can I get a "bunker equity loan?"
I'm half joking, mind you... but only half.

PabloD;

If you enjoy beer, stuff like Budweiser isn't going to last long, but some stronger ales like Sierra Nevada Bigfoot and some other barleywines might last a while longer, especially if stored in a cool dark place.

I keep waiting for the drunken British soccer fans to stand up and turn the tide against the Islamists. Will they need the help of the Irish (denied their whiskey and their stouts? What about the Scots?

Honestly, if that were to happen, it would be over in about ten minutes. It took a couple thousand pissed Rangers fans all of half an hour to destroy Manchester after the UEFA cup final.
