Oriana Fallaci Square Replaces Mosque

Following Silvio Berlusconi's return as Prime Minister, Italy has taken another step in the right direction. Gates of Vienna offers a translation from La Repubblica:

VERONA — Goodbye mosque. In its place, Oriana Fallaci Square.
This decision was taken by the committee of Oppeano (Verona), where yesterday morning a building used by Muslims for prayer was bulldozed. In its place, the Municipality will create a public square named after the writer of The Rage and the Pride, which promoted a bitter campaign against Islam.
The decision to raze the structure which had been opened by ONLUS [translator's note: Organizzazione Non Lucrativa di Utilita' Sociale, a non-profit registered Italian charity] "For the success of Muslims", was taken by the municipal administration, which acquired the area for €70,000 in order to transform it into an open area for parking and green space.

During WWII, Oriana Fallaci fought with partisans against totalitarianism. Later she continued the struggle by calling attention to the Islamization of Europe. She was rewarded with jail time for criticizing Islam, and by having her books banned by City Lights.

Tragically, she died of cancer in 2006. But Italy is still alive. It's starting to look like it plans to stay that way.

Oriana Fallaci, deservingly honored.

There are also some murmurings that Italy might be first to jump ship from the EU, due to the EU's appalling effect on their economy (and social problems).

There's hope yet, it seems.

Finally! An Italian with some balls. Im 1/4 Italian and I usually avoid mentioning it. Now? Maybe I can feel good about that again.

I wonder if the muzzies will riot and make Rome look like Paris? With its burning cars and all.

Well, never would have imagined this happening. Maybe Berlusconi can save his country from going over the cliff.

I'm suprised anyone would bulldoze a mosque, or that the muslims would even let them. Either way, its a good sign.

Oh Yeah!

Is this for real? It's just looks so out of kilter with the fawning obseqiousness found elsewhere...

Yes, Ian, I remember reading somewhere that Italy was unhappy with the economy and was considering going back to the lira.

Which country will be next to regain its senses?

This is wonderful news. She deserves to me much better known than she is.

YAY!!! BRAVO ITALY!!!

I ADORE Oriana and hold her as a real visionary for our times. She was so brave, beautiful and brilliant...and I am delighted Italy is honoring her in this way, lol...just too funny:)

Best news I have heard this week...and let's hope this spirit begins to be shared by the rest of Europe!

Good for Italy! Pushing the muzzies back to the shithole they came from, one mosque at a time.

I hope the French follow the example and lighten up on Bridget Bardot. She has stood up to the PC French and spoke out against the muzzies taking over France, and she is being threatened with jail and bodily harm for her effort.

Vive Italia! Garabaldi is smiling in Heaven!

I bought ALL of her books a couple of years ago and read them several times. Anyone who hasn't read her books, go buy them right now. They are the essential reading of our times.

The chutzpah and the hubris of the Muhammedans is infuriating:

so is the ignorance of the media: the soldiers of Allah never owned or paid rent, or had any agreement to use this building for a mosque: they simply occupied it.

For them to come on the scene now and to cry crocodile tears over something they never had in the first place is nauseating!
