Looks like one-fifth of today's population is not only a viable number, but can be thriving. And "stuck four miles at sea on a shrinking ice floe" - they often swim over twenty miles between islands or floes in pursuit of food.

Canada HAS NOT put the Polar Bear on any list - and it looks like they will not for the near future.

Let's sum this up. Polar Bears live in Canada, not the USA. The Canadian territories have the majority of the total population of Polar Bears, which at this time, are not increasing or decreasing in numbers. I can assume that the Canadians know a bit more about Polar Bear habits than the USA (except for a couple of Alaskan people).

Why the hell does the USA have to convince Canada that they don't know what's happening to the Polar Bears?

Polar bears live their entire lives on ICE, which is essential to their well-being. It is a fact that a polar bear will alow an iceburg to melt from under it and drown rather than swim to land because (OBVIOUSLY!) land is DEADLY to polar bears. Land is so harmful to polar bears that they will even (If possible) avoid land that is covered with ICE.

You people have an uncanny ability to pick out one point of data that fits your pre-defined conclusion to use as "proof" of your conclusion.

The cited article quotes Jennifer Marohasy, a biologist at Melbourne-based think tank the Institute of Public Affairs. Marohasy was asked: "Is the Earth stillwarming?"

She replied: "No, actually, there has been cooling, if you take 1998 as your point of reference. If you take 2002 as your point of reference, then temperatures have plateaued. This is certainly not what you'd expect if carbon dioxide is driving temperature because carbon dioxide levels have been increasing but temperatures have actually been coming down over the last 10 years."

But look at the long-term trend. Using the same technique of selectively using data from 2000 (mid-way between Marohasy's 1998 and 2002 points), the data shows a major unambiguous jump in air temperature.

More importantly, the longer term trend is unmistakeable.

By the way, there is an ad on this morning talking about how we Have to do something about Global Worming or we're all doomed! It is urging people to contact their Senators and tell them to act on GW.
