Old Glory Laid Out to Be Trampled by College Artist

Unfortunately Yale's Aliza Shvartz and her public abortions aren't the end of today's college art news. According to the University of Maine, this is art:

Proper respect for our flag requires that it never touch the ground or the floor.

When vets complained, the provost explained that Old Glory is "just a piece of cloth." Police are being paid by taxpayers to make sure no one disturbs the "artwork" other than by walking on it as intended.

The "artist," Susan Crane, has many NEA grants in her future.

On a tip from V the K.

Originally, she was going to lay on the floor in a work entitled "Mountain Climbing in Maine". It was abandoned since a ramp had to be installed to make her handicapped accessible.

She's fugly and it angers her?

Posted by: feminizedwesternmale at April 17, 2008 2:23 PM

Good one, CLAW.

Look at that smug, self-rightous smile on her face; she must be thinking "I'm sooooo edgy and shocking".

I wonder what would have happened if a flag from any Middle Eastern country was being trampled on.
Oh my...Now THAT would never happen as it would be
racist! Such crap and disrespect to our beloved country.

I can see the next news flash one of their "art" projects:

...in a related story, art students will be replacing the toilet tissue in school rest rooms with copies of the Constitution to see how many students wipe their ass on the document that gives them the freedom to have crap like this happen in the first place. "I feel it's a very patriotic thing to do" said one of the students. The school whole heartedly supports the project.

If successful, their next venture will have a student dressed as an SS-Obergruppenfuehrer leading a squad of Totenkopfverbande troops into a Synagog, seizing and burning the Torah scroll, painting "Arbeit Macht Frie" in pigs blood on the alter, all the while singing a rousing chorus of Deutschland Uber Alles. "We chose that theme so people could reflect on their social consciousness." The university said they stand by the students absolute first amendment rights to express herself.

Later that same afternoon, the school announced that a new Valedictorian had been chosen. This was to replace a student who was no longer allowed to speak at graduation due to the fact that she referenced God in her speech. The school stated that "religious hate speech that could be offensive to the Moslem students in attendance would not be tolerated."

Matt, it's impossible to parody the moonbats anymore. Nothing you wrote is so far fetched that it couldn't happen just that way in tomorrow's news.

Posted by: Lyle at April 17, 2008 3:46 PM

Well, I like knowing exactly who the bastards are, instead of them working in secret.

It's a stretch finding the good side of this, I know.

Posted by: Assistant Village Idiot at April 17, 2008 4:29 PM

I wonder what would happen if a student put a bunch of rainbow flags on the ground for people to walk in. Would the college provosts then bleat that it was "just a piece of cloth?"

Also, it turns out abortion-bitch was lying about her whole project. Which, somehow, doesn't really improve her ethical or moral standing very much.

Posted by: V the K at April 17, 2008 4:56 PM

Lyle, I know what you mean. It's hard to come up with stuff that is printable. To REALLY parody these clowns, you have to get so vile it's not worth it...and even THEN...

Assistant, you have a point. "Hold your friends close, your enemies closer".

V...the Rainbow Flag would set off a firestorm of "You are homophobic, bigotted, uninclusive..." rhetoric that would culminate in expulsion of the student and probably firings of administrators. As for her "lying", that's what the spokes-holes for the college are saying. I'd like to know for sure.

The "piece of cloth" defense is disengenious at best. If any piece of cloth will do, why pick a piece that will inevitably cause distracting controversy? Apparently this was another art project for an education major. This is doubling damning; not only will this woman get away with this behavior, but she will most likely be allowed to corrupt young minds.

First, I like all the comments.

Second, I can see a good "guerilla" art project she is trying to do. The actual lying of a flag on the ground is not a real offence, but that is not the point. She went about it all wrong.

Third, guerilla art is total bs for the most part, it is trying to insult/shock people for the wrong reasons.

Let me say, yes I would not walk on any of the flags, and if was a silly maze I would have picked them up regardless of some mall cop telling me I couldn't

Note to Susan Crane: you are fat, fugly, and pretty dumb looking to boot. If you think this cry for attention will get you a date - you're sadly mistaken - even the most insane, barking moonbats have standards, which you are most definitely below.

Posted by: ron at April 17, 2008 8:19 PM

What happens if someone came in and picked up the flags? OR if someone quietly laid a wreath at the foot of one with names and pictures of the war dead with a note how this dishonors their memory.

Artist? Really? Art Project #1 Put two reflectors on her rear end and call her a bus. Save ehe environment with mass transit. Art Project #2 Lay her out on the floor and have vets walk on her. The futility of insulting our military.

must be hell being fat AND fugly...

Posted by: nanc at April 17, 2008 9:17 PM

Susy Crane couldn't get laid in Iraqi rape room, so desecrating our flag as "art" is just her way of getting even...with her contemptible life.

Posted by: Senna at April 17, 2008 11:43 PM

Saddam Hussein did the same sort of thing and look how he ended up. Maybe she should be sent to Iraq so she can dig up his corpse and show him some love.

Good grief, you guys. Isn't her idea bad enough? Her looks have nothing to do with it. Attack her on what she does -- it's not like there isn't enough material.

Posted by: class-factotum at April 18, 2008 5:32 AM

It's so easy to be clumsily disrespectful of unfashionable sensibilities, and so well rewarded too. I'm sure she's on her way to being Valedictorian. Sure beats studying or coming up with something original. I bet this challenging curriculum serves her well after graduation.

"I wonder what would happen if a student put a bunch of rainbow flags on the ground for people to walk in. Would the college provosts then bleat that it was "just a piece of cloth?"

Sound like there is a need for a good road trip here! That is not Art... it's attention whoring at the expense of those who bled and died.

Posted by: HoosierArmyMom at April 18, 2008 9:58 AM

I'm with class-factotum. When nut-jobs hand you insane stuff like this, why go for the "hey, you're fat and stupid" remarks? These folks are giving us a treasure trove of REALLY STUPID STUFF that we can use to legitimately marginalize their credibility with. Leave the personal sliming and slander to Code Pink, MoveOn-George Soros and the like.

Anyhow, after reading more about this person, I get the feeling she just isn't very bright. In some weird way, she may have been trying to make a point about "who would step on it, who wouldn't" (i.e. "who respects the flag"). Maybe she truly doesn't realize she's desecrating it...which goes to the state of education in the U.S. these days. Teach 'em about "I have two Mommies" but forget to mention what the flag represents. Pathetic.

Kudos to you, Matt. I agree that the event alone warrants enough ridicule that her appearance shouldn't even be an issue. Who cares what she looks like? It's the creepy junk floating around inside her head and heart that matters.
