Media Already Swinging Back to Global Cooling Hysteria

Hold onto your wallets; the government has only just begun to loot us in the name of global warming, and already media propagandists are veering back to global cooling — where they were in the 1970s.

While policymakers have worried long and hard about global warming, which might raise Earth's temperature 1.4 to 5.8 degrees C by century's end, a growing body of evidence suggests natural forces could just as easily plunge Earth's average temperatures downward.

Having at last figured out that they have no idea what the weather will do more than a few days down the road, MSM alarmists are hedging their bets:

The possibility of a sudden freeze doesn't mean mankind can relax efforts to curb global warming, many scientists warn. Indeed, given the complexity of Earth's climate, human activities that spew greenhouse gases into the atmosphere may increase the potential for an abrupt cooling.

The one constant is change, so the hoaxers are now on firm ground. Whatever the weather does, we will have caused it with our wicked industrialized, capitalist ways. Only when we embrace Pol Pot's dream of agrarian socialism will the climate at last be constant.

On a tip from mega.

.............human activities that spew greenhouse gases into the atmosphere may increase the potential for an abrupt cooling......

Basically, global warming causes global cooling.

Or put another way: Al Gore was right; it *is* colder outside.

Ive been farting alot lately, does that mean we are in for a cool summer?

So, following what passes for logic in the cult of Gaia:

1. We have no way of knowing what impact our activities will have on the climate.

2. Therefore, we have to let government regulate all of our activities.

This makes sense to enviro-leftists, apparently.

Ah, so our latest buzzphrase is "abrupt climate change", which is any change which is faster than you think it ought to be presumably. Marvellous.

Also, interesting to note that the Little Ice Age is back; just a few years ago even mentioning it was verboten and Alarmists arose in whoops of ridicule at its mere mention. Sigh.

Lack of sunspots alarming some scientists. Really?

I read that linked article and have really got to wonder how these scientists, or researchers, can be so obtuse. The last part of the article reads like some kind of parody. "Researchers" posit that the global cooling ( global, mind you ) 8,200 years ago was caused by ice dams in the Great Lakes region breaking and flooding the Atlantic conveyor with cold water. The theory is pulled out of their asses and there is no, none, zip, nadda geological evidence of this flooding having taken place. So the scientists are left wondering, if it wasn't caused by this theory that we pulled out of our asses, what could have caused these temperature shifts? No mention of the Sun. No thought of the Sun. But, further research and government funding for people that decided to pursue careers in otherwise unmarketable professions is vital and necessary.

Executive summary: they don't know. Could be warming, could be cooling, could be in-betweening (the worst of all possibilities!). Vote for Dems and they'll fix it, whatever it is.

Please make up my mind for me, cause I do not know what they will say next and neither do they.

" Indeed, given the complexity of Earth's climate, human activities that spew greenhouse gases into the atmosphere may increase the potential for an abrupt cooling."

Warming...cooling, these elites have their bases covered either which way.

"Indeed, given the complexity of Earth's climate, human activities that spew greenhouse gases into the atmosphere may increase the potential for an abrupt cooling."

A simple "I don't know" would suffice.

The next thing you know, some idiot calling himself "Jor El" will be screaming at the United Nations Assembly that Earth will explode and we must build a giant spaceship.

...Just waiting for "Dan Quayle" to pipe up with some asinine comment on this one.

Glad to help.

This is the same problem this site had last week. And the week before. The problem is picking out selected bits of data that best fits your pre-determined conclusion.

Look at the 1975 Newsweek graph, referenced in this post. Then compare it to this graph showing the longer term trend.

See how Newsweek could conclude "global cooling" based on just a small snapshot?

And how silly that concusion looks when using the long-term trend dating from 1850?

Man, I don't know why I need to point this out every week.

But I'm a patient man.

I asked for an asinine comment, and I got one. Thanks!

You're quite welcome.

I'll probably need to point this out next week, too.
