Invention of Styrofoam Repealed
Moonbat bureauweenies on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors have attempted to repeal the invention of Styrofoam by banning the use of this extremely useful invention in all county food service ware.
This will entail an increase in operating costs for some county agencies and departments, but not to worry, taxpayers have plenty of money.
All food service ware must now be "biodegradable, compostable, reusable or recyclable."
Down the coast in San Diego, a UCSD study found that Styrofoam cups are actually easier on the environment than paper ones. But bureaucratic dictates are about gestures and feelings, not actual environmental impact.
I can't wait to see what Californians will ban next Earth Day. Will they go straight for the internal combustion engine, or work toward it gradually? Only time will tell.

I could be wrong, but I thought styrofoam WAS recyclable?

Strictly speaking what we think of as "styrofoam" is not recyclable. There are some plastic foams like PET that are, but the real thing isn't. Has to do with the structure of the styrene molecule, its really hard to re-form it once its been created.
Some places claim to recycle styrofoam. They make stuffing for bean bag chairs (big market for those, not) but only use clean, uncontaminated foam and in truckload quantities only. Old coffee cups don't make the grade. Its like recycled paper. Most "recycled" paper is product that never left the factory. Read the label, most of these products contain very little "post-consumer" recycled fiber. The exception would be the paper coffee cup holders and egg cartons.
I did make plastic paint from styrofoam and acetone once. It worked out ok.

Actually, "styrofoam" is no longer made; we've used a diffrent formula for a couple of decades that doesn't use those EEEVIL ozone-depleting CFCs. Yet the "greens" still scream bloody murder about "styrofoam".
