Government Begins to Regulate Eye Movements

Look out: the government is protecting children again. A bill has passed in Maine allowing people to be charged with a felony for "viewing children in a public place."

Sure, no one wants perverts ogling little kids in the restroom. Hopefully no one wants to live in a country where our very eye movements are regulated by the government either.

On a tip from Deano.

Oh well, shut down all the Little League baseball games, no telling how many pedophiles are sitting in the stands ogling those strapping young boys.

I think about all the hours spent watching my todders play at the McDonalds playground and they would do the cutest things. Now I would be arrested? And what about childcare workers? Are they not to watch the children to keep them from trying to "fly off the top of a slide", or make sure no one is "playing doctor under the turtle"??
This is just insane. I think the people in Maine have had a few brain cells frozen out of this "global warming winter". I am all for catching and locking up pediphiles and keeping them away from children, but this law is just pure stupidity.

What the hell is "visual sexual aggression"?

In the second century, Juvenal wrote, of Roman society, "I can't not write satire."

What if you have lazy eye?

Minor (?) quibble, not just for watching in a restroom, but watching the approach to said location.

Presumably with a 1500ft lower limit...

What would the defense be, exactly?

"My eyeball was actually turned at a 60 degree angle, not 82 degrees."

Come to think of it, what would the evidence be at trial against the defendant?

Well, this will really improve the morale of the majority of US Service Men and Women, who are NOT Gay, Transgendered, Bi or what ever the hell they want to call themselves. NOT!

So, we once again pander to the desires of the 10% crowd to destroy the foundation of the 90% that accomplish the mission.

This will also require changes to every day terms in the military, such as Cockpit........Um, can't use that one anymore. Fantail (ass end of a ship), UM, might want to redefine that one. Going to the Head might.....oh heck, you get it.

Obama wants 'don't ask' repealed

The Democratic presidential front-runner told The Advocate, a gay magazine, that he wants to repeal the "don't ask, don't tell" policy on gays, which was instituted during the Clinton administration.

How are the people in Maine taking this? They put Rep. Dawn Hill,A DEMOCRAT, in office. I would be mad as hell, but I don't live in Maine.

This makes no sense. The whole motivation behind this new law is outlined in the following story:

Her involvement started when Ogunquit Police Lt. David Alexander was called to a local beach to deal with a man who appeared to be observing children entering the community bathrooms. Because the state statute prevents arrests for visual sexual aggression of a child in a public place, Alexander said he and his fellow officer could only ask the man to move along. "There was no violation of law that we could enforce. There was nothing we could charge him with," Alexander said.

By the officer's description, a man was "observing children entering the community bathrooms." That hardly sounds like he's looking at their genitalia. Yet if you look at the writing of the law, it reads,

For the purpose of arousing or gratifying sexual desire or for the purpose of causing affront or alarm, the actor, having in fact attained 18 years of age, in a public or private place, exposes the actor's genitals to another person or causes the other person to expose that person's genitals to the actor and the other person, not the actor's spouse, has not in fact attained 14 years of age. Violation of this paragraph is a Class D crime

There is no mention of simple looking at a child. It refers specifically to observing the victim's genitalia.

I think this may be a case of the media intentionally writing up a story in a misleading way to generate sensationalism. But you can't be certain. The more you look into the details of the story, the less sense it makes. Dr. Helen sent an email to the author of the bill, and the author of the story. The author of the story replied, but it didn't clear up any of the ambiguity (surprise!). Dr. Helen awaits a response from the bill's author, which will probably be equally opaque.
