French Denounce English Language
As Muslim colonization pushes France close enough to obliteration that cultural icons like Brigitte Bardot are forced to stand trial for violating the precepts of dhimmitude, at last the French are fighting back against the invasion — not the Islamic invasion that threats their existence, but the invasion of the English language.
To the barricades! That's the message of language purists aghast that the lyrics of France's entry in a hugely popular European song contest are — mon Dieu! — in English. Critics, including the French government, are adamant: Sebastien Tellier should not perform "Divine" at Eurovision — unless it is in French.
"A song represents the soul of a country," said Marc Favre d'Echallens, who heads a group dedicated to defending French against the growing use of English. "It appears logical that a song representing France be a French song sung in French," he said, denouncing cultural "uniformity" and the "hegemony" of the English language in the world today.
It's the latest battle in a war France has waged for decades to defend French against the encroachment — some call it the invasion — of the English language.
Ironically, people who speak English twice prevented France from being conquered and absorbed by people who speak German. We can't do much to prevent them from being conquered and absorbed by people who speak Arabic.
On a tip from Dwaine.

I've never seen that photo. Pretty much says it all. He doesn't appear to be the least bit worried about anyone arresting him, beating him, or trying to stop him in any way.

Every time the subject of Fwance comes up, I think of this Ray Milland classic from 1972.

If it weren't for the French, we'd might well be subjects of the Queen...
I know, it was a long, long time ago, and they were probably doing it mainly as a way to rattle the crown, but that doesn't make it any less true.
The ties that bound the US to France early in our nations history were strong. Only after watching our example did the French find the courage to overthrow their own corrupt government. That symbol of American freedom standing out on Ellis island? Never forget, she was a gift from the people of France.
Sometime before 1900, the French seemed to loose their way, and for the last 100 years or so, they've been wineing in their croissant. Today, perhaps, they deserve the 'surrender monkey' reputation they have developed, but it was not always so.
I'm ever hopeful that one day the French will reclaim their nation and be free once again. The last election renewed that hope, but little seems to have been done since.
On the original subject... Remember a couple years back when a bunch of Latino singers released 'Nuestro Himno', the spanish language translation of the Star Spangled Banner?
Yeah, I was pissed too.

Problem is that many in France have long since forgotten that those young Americans, unlike a cold metal statue, were once living breathing sons, husbands and brothers given as a bitter gift to France.
I believe our accounts are squared with them.

Yes, Chris!
I agree with them. I feel the same about Spanish in the US that they do about English in France. Its their country and they are entitled to preserve their culture.
Unfortunately, the language they really ought to be worried about Arabic. But they are afraid of Jihad. Anyhow, With a 1.1 fertility rate the French will soon be inconsequential.

Chris,
I never denied that history, but the fact is that we americans owed a lot to IMPERIAL France, REPUBLICAN France has been pretty much a wash out.
Now as to history:
You failed to mention the contribution of SPAIN and the Florida campaign that pinned down over ten thousand British and Loyalist troops. Also, if it hadn't been for a HURRICANE, the British fleet would have come up from Cuba to fight at Yorktown.
A newspaper durring World War One said that after a major battle (The Marne, I think) that "America has poaid her debt to Laffyette", but lesser known is something said by a "doughboy" while going to the front shortly after that:
"We already paid off that old fart Laffyette, what frog b*****d do we owe now?"

Yep mandy the French will be incosequential, but France won't be. Having a nuclear-armed state in Europe with a poitical situation something like Lebanon? ugh!
I'm not looking forward to it, but unless something changes soon, it's gonna happen.

Sarko or not, look out Frenchies -- better brush up on your Arabic (Allahu Akbar! -- or som'in like that -- who gives a crap?).
Au revoir!

I agree forest, probably not if but how soon?
I've written Sweden and France off in particular as lost causes. They(the political class) apparently are hell-bent to cut the future of their cultures and people from existence on planet earth. Why should they be bothered with the mess they will leave behind?

Far be it for me to belittle Spain's contribution to our nation's battle for independence, or God's, by way of a hurricane. The post was about the French reaction to a foreign language song...
I simply pointed out that France was not always as it is these days, and that there are a great many Frenchmen who are as proud of their nation's history as I am of mine.
I would point out that I am less than impressed with many things that have been going on here at home over the last 80 years or so, but that does not make me any less proud of my country, or any less willing to fight for her.
Are the French more culpable for allowing the Muslim people to overrun their nation than we are for allowing Latinos? (I know... I must be a racist now, right?)
To most Americans, the French simply don't matter in their day to day lives. I would be willing to bet that if someone sang a song in French on American Idol, it'd make the top story on every MSM outlet in the country.
