Britain's "Why Bother?" Economy
You have to hand it to British bureaucrats: they have been overwhelmingly successful in their efforts to cultivate an ever-growing subclass of citizens unwilling and largely unable to do any useful labor, who exist only to vote for more benefits. From the Daily Mail:
A "why bother?" economy has been created in Britain which has left thousands with no motivation to work, a report published today concludes. Successive governments have encouraged a welfare culture that has left every family facing a £1,300 bill because the poor stay poor, it claims. The findings by the public services think tank Reform suggest that increased welfare dependency has made it more difficult for those on the lowest incomes to do better.
An education system with a "dismal record" of educating the poorest, and a complex welfare system, have together created a far more divided society than other European countries, it finds. Means-tested benefits and higher taxes have reduced the incentives available to those on low incomes to better themselves, Reform says. It concludes: "The unintended consequence has been a 'why bother?' economy in which a significant minority do not have the capability or motivation to succeed."
But assuming that the "why bother?" economy is an unintended consequence is an insult to the intelligence of liberal social engineers. Obviously if you pay people not to work, they won't work. Dennis Kucinich could figure it out.
Basically, liberalism has reduced humans to farm animals. Just like chickens are raised by farmers for their eggs, welfare dependents are raised by the State for their votes.
On a tip from Wiggins.

I have never read a better description of this disgusting symbiosis between welfare slugs and liberal politicians. Van Helsing, you nailed it!!
No wonder Moonbattery is one of my favorite blogs. It's a daily "must-read."

but human farm animals produce less CO2 and help stem global warming.
were well on our way here on the east and left coasts.

We tried it the Liberal way and failed. Can we go back to the old ways now? It wasn't perfect, but there were very few people fifty years ago sitting around feeling sorry for themselves and doing their best to convince others to feel the same way.

The lack of personal responsibilty is addictive. Once someone is hooked, they will be your slave/voter for life.
I just received an offer for a free copy of Harpers in the mail with teasers of article's for people who "thrive on independent thinking." Here is a gem: "Let them eat fat. Supersizing the poor with cheap fast foods until their own obesity becomes another form of oppression."
Do the Ivy League WASPs who buy into their agitprop real believe this is thinking?

Anybody else hear that high-pitched hum? Oh, that must be Winston Churchill spinning at about 3500 rpm in his grave...

One afternoon, I was in the backyard hanging the laundry when an old, tired-looking dog wandered into the yard. I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home. But when I walked into the house, he followed me, sauntered down the hall and fell asleep in a corner. An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out. The next day he was back. He resumed his position in the hallway and slept for an hour.
This continued for several weeks. Curious, I pinned a note to his collar: "Every afternoon your dog comes to my house for a nap. "
The next day he arrived with a different note pinned to his collar: "He lives in a home with ten children - he's trying to catch up on his sleep."
I cried from laughter
Sorry, if not left a message on Rules.
