Two Days Detention for Patriotic Shirt

Donald Miller III, 14, of Holtwood, Pennsylvania, was put in detention for two days for wearing a politically incorrect shirt:

The shirt bears the image of a military sidearm and on the front pocket says "Volunteer Homeland Security." On the back, over another image of the weapon, are the words "Special issue Resident Lifetime License — United States Terrorist Hunting Permit — Permit No. 91101 — Gun Owner — No Bag Limit."

His parents have accused the Penn Manor School District of imposing a "vague Orwellian policy." But educrats insist that in the post-Columbine era, even pictures of guns must be banned. According to Penn Manor attorney Kevin French:

There's a much higher level of sensitivity these days. But it's based on reality.

In the funhouse of moonbattery, a small picture of a gun constitutes reality. This is because firearms symbolize the power of the free individual, and are therefore as profane to moonbats as crosses are to vampires.

Funny,
Kids walk around all day at school here wearing Bob Marley and Tupac shirts. I am also willing to bet that these 14 year olds don't care much for their music either.
I suppose their (Tupac and Marley) lifestyles are (Excuse me, were) politically correct.

I may have to disagree on this one. I put this shirt in the same category as Che Guevara or any other idiotic message. Gun ownership rights are not related to this shirt.

You couldn't be more wrong, Air. The right to the private ownership of firearms is a prophylactic against the would-be Che Guevara's of the world.

Also, presumably it's all right to wear a Che, Stalin, or Pol Pot shirt at that kid's school.

The additional irony here is that, the majority of school districts in PA (west of the eastern boarder) do not hold classess on the first day of Deer Season.

Anyone remember when they taught Hunter Safety classes in the middle schools? I do. And, sadly, it was not that long ago.

It's disgusting he was put in detention for two days. That is a first amendment violation.

I have a gun myself but I don't think it's a cute subject to be seen on young teens at school. Firearm fascination has had consequences at schools lately as we all know.

I agree 100% that it is NOT acceptable to wear a "Che, Stalin, or Pol Pot shirt at that kid's school".

My kids have uniforms and I think that's where it's at.

I refuse to yield to the liberal mantra of "guns=violence."

Actually I saw the shirt and I agree with you guys on it. It's an Anti-Terror shirt more than a gun thing.

Stupid people + sticks and stones equals violence.

Me + any number of my weapons (firearms, knives or a dull wooden spoon) ends violence when it enters my very small bubble of the world.

Hell, that was a bit self promoting = apologies, yet true.

Do they censor pictures of guns out of the history books? Do the kids think WW2 was fought with Nerf darts and silly string? Idiots...

Posted by: PabloD at March 11, 2008 9:25 PM

That silly string is some dealy shit man.
I came up against it in Nam.
