Still in Spitzer's Corner: Faye Flam of the Philly Inquirer

Cheer up, Spitzer. True, your arrogance and self-indulgence have reduced your career and family to ruins, and all the people you've made into enemies with your bullying are rolling on the floor laughing at your self-induced misery. But on the bright side, Alan Dershowitz still has your back. Plus, Faye Flam at the Philadelphia Inquirer says the crime you habitually committed against your family, your office, decency, and the law is "inherent in human nature."

It seems Spitzer was compelled to frequent prostitutes by the same primeval forces that compelled moonbats to vote for him:

Scientists […] attribute this kind of behavior to natural promiscuity combined with opportunity — along with a risk-taking personality common to men like Bill Clinton and John F Kennedy. It's what makes them seek office and what makes us want to vote for them.

It's all part of being an "alpha male," you see. Or at least, it's part of being a second-rate alpha male.

So, to the liberal left, a "real man" is a man who breaks his sacred marital vows and exposes his wife to STD's. Got it.

uhhh, it's the "Inquirer".

Posted by: Anonymous at March 13, 2008 2:53 AM

The whole justification fails anyway, because Spitzer isn't an alpha male, he's an insecure bully. Genuine alphas are charismatic and easily gain the adoration of women and men alike; an alpha is a person who, when they start speaking, everyone can't help but admire them. Even if you disagree with an alpha, you find yourself saying "I disagree with everything he said but still, whaddaguy!"

Alphas have sufficient confidence that they don't need to brag or show off, or prove anything to anybody. Yes, they can have women falling at their feet but are also frequently very trustworthy and keep their marital vows because they've nothing to prove to anyone.

Men who want to be alphas but aren't tend to be attracted to power, and abuse that power, because they're trying to prove they're more than they actually are. They bully and rage and abuse, and will mistreat men and women alike. They're untrustworthy, and the very kind of person who shouldn't have political power. Spitzer is of that type.

And alphas are risk-takers, but are takers of calculated risks, not reckless ones; which is why alphas tend to be successful in business.

To put it more bluntly, if Spitzer were an alpha male, he wouldn't be paying for it. He'd either be a faithful husband or a free agent linked to a string of beautiful women, and everybody would say "wooh, whaddaguy!"

Sounds like you are describing Bill Clinton too.
(in the fact that he emmulates alpha so well, all his fans defend him and "forgive him" without ceasing. I find Hillary's silence on this or refusal to comment interesting... wonder what is going on in her mind. And then there is Obama. Many things point toward making one wonder if he is another really good "Alpha Male Conterfeit".

I am afraid I agree with Laura Ingraham on this one though. The news is taking a story that is a tragic statement about American values and giving us waaaay to much info on "Kristin", meanwhile a 19 year old girl (a medic) is getting a Silver Star for protecting and dragging 5 fellow soldiers to safety while under fire, and there is barely any coverage. Quite frankly, I feel sorry for a girl who has a troubled childhood, drug issues, and leaves home at 17 and embarks on a life where she is exploited. In an ideal world, this young women would encounter "real men" who would want to help and protect her. Instead, she encounters men who want to exploit her for the big bucks. It is a very sad statement about our society. As far as Spitzer is concerned, he has ruined his life, exposed his hipocrasy, and embarrassed his family. He's done so we should let em suffer in peace. Tonight if the news is all about this girl and her vilified client #9, I'm hitting the "off" button.

You people are all jealous because hookers won't take your money. I mean if I can't get a woman to have sex with me by paying her, there's no way any woman will have sex with any of you wingnuts for $5000.00

Posted by: Hashfanatic(Parody) at March 13, 2008 7:20 AM

A prostitute, a medic. What's the difference?

They pretty much deal with the same fluids...

Posted by: hashfanatic at March 13, 2008 7:20 AM

Well, I'm having trouble finding much on the internets at the moment about Kristin beyond her coming from a "broken home", "abused drugs" and is worrying about the rent on her apartment.

I think we need to remember that the media spin like mad and want a narrative. That narrative necessarily will have to portray Kristin as a victim, partly because that's the only way the media can consider portraying a prostitute, and partly to emphasise what a monster Spitzer is. Was she exploited? I dunno. Many workers can be portrayed as exploited, or think they are. Indeed that's the standard liberal narrative. Whether a prostitute is being more exploited than any other kind of worker is debatable.

For the record, somebody delving into my past would find that I come from a broken home (my parents divorced when I was 10) and when I was a young man (boy that seems a long time ago) I took some drugs and drank far more beer than was good for me. Worrying about paying the rent is not something absent from my life either :)

For instance, as I said I took some drugs- as did everybody else I knew. I found them rather disappointing to be honest and just lost interest. But a journalist would write that up as "drug abuser". We have to be really cautious about this; since most young people these days will at least try drugs, and many will use them regularly, just about anyone can be classified as a "drug abuser" even if they're not an addict and never have been. For instance there's a lot of talk about how much crime is drug related, or (recently) alcohol related, but that's largely a result of tallying how many offenders have taken drugs; since most young people have done so, the effect is created that the crime is because of the drugs, which isn't necessarily the case. After all, most people drink, and especially young people living the party lifestyle will drink a great deal. I did. Same thing.

Oh, and I left home at 18 and wanted to be a rock and roll musician. I didn't succeed :) Most aspiring singers/musicians/actors end up doing something else for a living. Lots of broken dreams out there.

I'm not saying I know anything about "Kristin". I'm just saying that the media will spin a particular narrative, and I don't think she tells us much of anything about the state of society.

Man, those Democrat moonunits don't deserve to be alpha males.

Numero uno, he broke his marrige vows with a prostitute. Unlike our upstanding Republican wingbat who found a WILLING male schlongmouther. Since it wasn't a woman, he didn't break his marriage vows. And hey, it's for free.

Numero two-o, he paid way too much. $5000 dollars per hour? For that much scratch, I'd want to be serviced in a luxury booth at the Super Bowl.

Numero three-o, he's a quitter. When confronted with his guilt, the coward resigned. Again contrast this with Larry Craig who was caught in the act, pleaded guilty, and then DO OVER, just kidding, didn't happen, I ain't quitting. And he didn't. TRUE CONSERVATIVES never quit.

I'm a little unconfortable with both Spitzer and Craig dragging their wives to the press conference. Imagine! Having to stand there while your husband admits to blowing you daughters' college funds on hookers. Or explaining away the homosexual schlongmouthing in an airport public restroom as a "wide stance".

But we must stand by Larry Craig. Because he's our wingbat kind of alpha male.

WRITE IN QUAYLE '08 -- YOUR ONLY REMAINING CONSERVATIVE CHOICE.

The Emperor's Club portrayed Kristen as a high-class, well-educated, intelligent escort. Now, it turns out she was a loser from a broken home in Jersey with drug and relationship problems. The Old Eliot Spitzer would have sued the Emperor's Club for false advertising.

I'd be not surprised if Mrs. Spitzer leveraged this betrayal into a New York Senate seat.

Posted by: V the K at March 13, 2008 8:41 AM

i'm sorry, but Spitzer gets the douchebag of the year award. As I said, I could care less he was unfaithful to his wife, thats between the two of them (and if she had any gumption, she would throw his ass to the wolves in divorce court). I am supremely pissed that Spitzer and his kind (and I'm willing to bet there is alot more of this going on than gets reported) "get tough on John's who prey on Prostitutes" and other moralistic claptrap while they themselves get high priced call girls on the side.

"if she had any gumption, she would throw his ass to the wolves in divorce court"

Interesting that you point that out since, according to a Fox report this morning, Mrs. Spitzer was quite vocal about her disapproval of Hillary Clinton's "stand by your man" moments.
I don't feel one bit sorry about the "Adult players, I do feel for the kids". Spitzer got what he needed to get... ruined, and maybe the Mrs. is getting Karmic debt paid. Who knows.

Ian, I just think it is sad that we focus on the fall of someone and every detail of some misguided girls life. She will get so much press on this that she will end up with a book deal and a reality TV show and then we will see more of the same, because dysfunctional living "paid the big bucks and benefits to "Kristen". I hate to see that dynamic over and over again.

HoosierArmyMom-

I guess I'm posting what I am because I feel sorry for the girl. It's a pretty safe bet she wanted none of this to happen. She's wasn't a wreck doomed to a crack whore's fate, she was making some money, she probably would have left it all behind at some point. Now she's america's most famous whore.

I'd pegged my nose and had a look in on the Huffpo's comments section today, and you can already see the moonbats hurling fury at her and deciding among themselves that it's her fault, not this slimeball governor's fault. He's a great man who fell from grace because of a whore.

Nothing of course could be further from the truth; he's an odious boil in the backside of humanity who never should have got where he has, abused his power monumentally, and the only tragedy is he wasn't ousted years ago.

I'd prefer like you that she wasn't in the news at all. Effectively she's an innocent bystander who's just been caught in the maelstrom of this man's lust for power, and for everything else. She's going to need that book deal and whatever since her employment prospects in any other field, including the one she was working in, are now entirely screwed. She's now an actor in a grand narrative. Poor girl.

The fascination of course comes from people who are fascinated by wealth, power and "depravity". They want to pore over every word and factoid and fantasise about a life of power and high class hookers while maintaining a pretense of a moral high ground. Like you, I'd prefer to read some stories about the overlooked heroes and heroines who, in our distorted society, are ignored while the media looks for sensation. I guess it ain't gonna happen though.

Am I the only one who thinks Spitzer looks like The Predator?????

I always enjoy reading your comments, which are uniformly thoughtful, intelligent, and insightful, and you're true to form today.

Posted by: Jay Guevara at March 13, 2008 11:16 AM

Sorry, my post was directed to Ian. Not sure what happened.

Posted by: Jay Guevara at March 13, 2008 11:17 AM

Ian, everything you said so eloquently is so very true. Spitzer was the supreme hipocrite in this, since he prosecuted others with great sanctamony while doing the same thing himself. I do think the girl is getting screwed. If creeps like Spitzer didn't create the market for prostitution she would be finding another way to make money. How typical of the Huff Po commenters... liberals are not about accountability, they are about making excuses and misplacing blame, especially on that blog. I'm with you, it is Spitzer's doing.

Well rosie, there are some who thinks he looks like a troll. Look at the ears and facial distortion... it could go either way.

Iowahawk has a funny parody of this situation. "Kristin tearfully announces resignation" or something like that. Can't give the exact URL cuz they started blocking that site at my work.

Odd, the media denounced the Clinton impeachment as "all about sex", yet they seem to devote a lot of air time for a sex scandle.

Posted by: KHarn at March 13, 2008 2:40 PM

Human nature? From "The African Queen", Katharine Hepburn to Humphrey Bogart, whose character has just rationalized his drinking by saying that it's "human nature":

"Human nature, Mr. Allnut, is what we are put here to rise above".

I guess this means you won't getting medical treatment from a hooker or a blowjob from a doctor? I know this may be difficult for you but next time post something that makes sense.
