Serious Consequences for Buying Candy in High School

An eighth-grade honors student is in big trouble in moonbatty New Haven, Connecticut:

Michael Sheridan was stripped of his title as class vice president, barred from attending an honors student dinner and suspended for a day after buying a bag of Skittles from a classmate.
The New Haven school system banned candy sales in 2003 as part of a district-wide school wellness policy, said school spokeswoman Catherine Sullivan-DeCarlo.

The poor kid had no idea that even buying a bag of Skittles from a classmate is now against the rules — not that you can expect kids to take the rules terribly seriously when common sense will tell them that their schools are asylums presided over by folks who should be wearing jackets with extra long sleeves, as they gibber about "wellness" and bash their noggins on the padded walls in the Quiet Room.

Good thing the poor kid was not wearing a T Shirt with a gun on it too. They might have just castrated him on the spot for that double wammy.

Skittles cause man made global warming anyhow, don't they?

Technically, that should be "Buying Candy in Middle School," I think.

So, kids can't buy candy, but they can get free condoms from the school nurse. That makes total sense.

I say the kid got off easy.

Skittles are bad for the environment, and hey, the class vice pres should have been aware of the rules.

Give him Leavenworth!

Hey, I'm for banning candy sales in schools. It's a major disruption in my classes. But since it is NHS that does it, and the principal is the head of NHS, well...you get the picture. This is a little over the top though.

If the school bans candy sales, that's fine. But this punishment is a bit harsh. When kids get suspended and have privileges stripped because they buy candy or bring plastic butter knives in their lunch bags, there is something really wrong.

And how was the seller punished?

mean while drugs are still for legal sale on school grounds.

like when my dean was arrested for selling coke, after he stiffed a student, and the kid went to the police. he was selling coke for over 3 years and everyone but the police knew it.

or like my physics teacher was arrested for selling meth, he was using the schools labs to cook it up.

my bio teacher almost went to jail for rape of a 16 year old, somehow he managed to stay out of jail and keep his job.

and my principle was finally caught having sex with minors over a 20 year period. took an undercover female officer to finally catch him, and all the students knew she was a NARC also
LOL

we also had a decent sized high school prostitution ring going on through the drafting and auto shops in the schools basement.

oh i see the connection different forms of candy, that you can still buy in school.

Ah memories of going to school in NYC.

But Skittles is the candy of GAYS! See: the comercials say "taste the RAINBOW"! Catherine Sullivan-DeCarlo is a HOMOPHOBE!

Harnie, do you want some candy?

I guess the idiots running that school never heard the adage that the punishment should fit the crime.

Try not to be reasonable while Hash is listening.
He believes cops should write tickets to people for not seperating plastic from aluminum in the trash.

"Michael Sheridan was stripped of his title as class vice president, barred from attending an honors student dinner and suspended for a day after buying a bag of Skittles from a classmate."

Bet they were part of a fundraiser for a school organization! This is just ridiculous. No wonder our schools are failing and the drop out rate is so high. Any kid with common sense would just drop out and take the GED and call it a day!
