Restraining Orders for Pets
As our own rights are steadily squeezed out of existence by totalitarian political correctness, we can console ourselves that our pets have more rights than ever. They can even take out restraining orders:
Pets would be protected from domestic violence under a bill that unanimously passed the Iowa Senate today. Domestic violence victims could ask the court to block their abuser from having any contact with the family's animals when they apply for a restraining order to protect themselves and their children, said Sen. Keith Kreiman, a Democrat from Bloomfield.
It's only a matter of time until dogs start going to court over leash laws and cats sue to be let out to hunt birds.

I hope the moonbat Democrat legislators never get a hold of these French laws.
It's ironic that as of January 21st 2009, the most conservative leader in the Western world will be the president of France. (Most of the nuttier laws on the list appear to have been passed by socialist governments.)

It doesn't actually seem like that bad an idea to me. One of the occasional by-products of domestic abuse is, unfortunately, intentional injuring/killing of pets. I read a case a year ago where some a**hole abusive guy killed his girlfriend's dog as part of his psycho revenge thing. Since animals can't really defend themselves, it seems reasonable to have a TRO law to try to protect them when stuck in bad circumstances.
That said, I really hope my cats don't get wind of this. They are already pretty manipulative without having extra leverage from legal protection.

It's not about protecting the pet. It's about protecting the owner from bad acts by the abuser.
Geeze, read the second sentence in the story: "to prevent the abuser from holding the pet hostage or using the pet to harass or control the children or the victim."
This is only "moonbattery" if you think only moonbats have significant emotional attachment to their pets.

I'm not seeing moonbattery here either as I think pet's fall prey to manipulations by family members in disputes and domestic issues waaaay too much. But I have dogs that are like "the kids".

I accidentally crapped on the carpet, and was hit by a retraining order.
So what?
