Perspective on Casualties in Iraq
Screeches AP:
A roadside bomb killed three American soldiers north of Baghdad on Saturday, pushing the U.S. death toll in the five-year conflict to nearly 4,000. […] The latest deaths brought to 3,996 the number of U.S. service members and Pentagon civilians who have died since the war began on March 20, 2003, according to an Associated Press count. […] Sen. Robert Menendez [D] of New Jersey called on Bush to "face the reality" in Iraq and "tell us the truth" about the cost of the conflict as America is struggling with a faltering economy and mounting casualty tolls.
Menendez hopes to secure defeat by blowing the casualty figures out of proportion, failing to mention that well over 10 times that many Americans die in traffic accidents every year. Casualties in the Iraqi theater of our war with Islamic terrorists have been extremely low by historical standards. But as Senator Mendacious reaffirms, the first casualty in war is truth.

So, in other words, too few American men and women are needlesly dying to make a big deal out of it?
So how much death is enough for you? Let's say it were closer to 40,000. That'd be relatively "historically" low. Would that be enough to start making a big deal out of it? Not enough for you? 400, 000? Would that get you a little pissed off?
For someone who claims to "support" the troops, i'd say your cavalier attitude towards the 4,000 dead is insulting.

Liberals should stop dealing with extremes and tell the MUSLIMS that it's wrong to worship death! Liberals love to talk about peace, but they're afraid to even SAY SOMETHING against the REAL agressors in the world; those who would errect a merciless totalitarian society. You should be doing everything in your power to bring down the communists and muslims IF YOU WANT ALL THE RIGHTS AND PRIVLEGES YOU LIBERALS ARE ALWAYS WHINING ABOUT, but instead of doing something positive for FREEDOM, you back up the tyrants by voicing their hate for the free countries in the world and obstructing PEACE with riots, protests and vandalism just because it makles you FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOURSELVES.
You people blow!

400,000 died in 3 1/2 years of fighting during WW II. Iraq? 4,000 in 5 years. To put the 400,000 in todays terms (when population was much smaller, you would be talking over 1 million dead today vs. 4,000) Nobody (except Moonbats who call US troops mercenaries) want to see US troops or anyone else die. But one has to remember who is doing most of the killing - radical muzzies - mostly killing their own.
A big reason why death tolls for the same period of time in past wars were much higher is those periods used large numbers of draftees whereas today soldiers are motivated volunteers with much better training, weapons and protection as well as advances in medicine.
The fascination with particular "milestones" for war deaths is rather new. In past wars they passed without mention. Does the 4,000th person who died at the hands of wild eyed muzzies mean any more or less than the 3,887th? The only reason its mentioned today is that its just another way for anti-American liberals to protest "the war".

Though every death in Iraq is a tragedy, over 250,000 people died on US roads since the start of the Iraq war.

Any death is a terrible waste. The bottom line is that the Senator like all liberals and Democrats have used these statements for political gain not because they care. If they cared they wouldn't make those statements.

Like you care? Please.
Your basic argument here is that 4,000 deaths isn't ENOUGH to even make an issue out of it. It's a sacrafice you are all more than willing to make apologies for and so off handedly discount as essentially meaningless and inconsequential.

To the first Anonymous Poster:
If you care about the deaths of those serving this country, then go out and see what the Vets that have done 2,3, or 4 tours of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan have to say! State your point to them as they are the ones that have been in the thick of it and have taken the risk. A good place to start is:
http://www.vetsforfreedom.org/
Then check out Michael Yon's blog and then try to blow the "lets just quit and come home" BS. At least then you will be exposed to some thoughts that come from people with authority on the subject, and won't sound so dumb.
