Liberalism Is Dead — Or at Least, It Smells Dead
Former CNN correspondent Walter Rodgers has good news and bad news.
First the good — and it's great:
Few dare to say it, but it's time we acknowledged a sad truth about American politics: liberalism is dead — and it has been for 40 years.
Now the bad: Rodgers is a moonbat, and consequently the statement above has no validity whatsoever.
According to Rodgers' remarkable interpretation of American history, liberalism ceased to be a threat once we got rid of LBJ. Even Jimmy Carter — who threw away the Panama Canal and pretty much invented groveling dhimmitude in the face of Islamic terror — was "no liberal," Rodgers reveals. There's more you probably didn't know:
In 2000, the Supreme Court anointed right-wing Republican George W. Bush as president. His two terms have driven a stake through liberalism's heart.
Way to go, W! If only it were true. In reality, Bush 43 has let the size of government spiral out of control more irresponsibly than anyone since Johnson.
At least Rodgers can take solace in our surfeit of government programs, even if there could never be enough to suit him:
Liberalism may indeed be a political spent force, but we should fervently hope that the human decency and concern for our fellow man that spawned programs such as food stamps, Head Start, Aid for Dependent Children, and the Peace Corps, still speaks to the inherent and unselfish goodness that used to be America.
After denouncing his own country as selfish and no longer good for failing to conform to his extreme liberal ideology, Rodgers solemnly intones that the essence of liberalism is tolerance. That we indulge condescending moonbats as they spew insulting rubbish all over our newspapers proves we're all too tolerant.

On a tip from Oiao.

Hey, I'm all for tolerance - but "tolerate" is usually a word I use referring to things like hemorrhoids and toothaches. It means putting up with unpleasant things that can't be changed. Fine and dandy. But in moonbat world, "tolerance" has usually come to mean unpleasant or abnormal things should be greeted with a warm embrace and a big wet kiss. By the way, why do so many moonbat arguments rely on having to redefine commonly understood words and concepts? When I read a moonbat opinion, it's like reading a foreign language. I recognize the words, but they don't seem to mean what I've always understood them to mean....

The left has moved the goalposts on tolerance. If tolerance just meant "live and let live," that's where most people are. But to the left, tolerance means that any lifestyle choice, no matter how dysfunctional, has to be celebrated, promoted, funded by the government, and indoctrinated into schoolchildren.

BTW, here's a good Global Warming link for our favorite context-challenged troll, John Ryan, the Arctic Ocean is warming dramatically, polar ice is melting, and seal populations are being devastated. It's in the Washington Post... from 1922.

Oiao, I think the moonbats converged upon Colorado during the 70s and 80s with the "commune, live off the earth and government" craze. Lots of middle aged hippie moonbat types there. "Rocky Mountain High" may be the reference to all the "bongs burning" in Colorado.
We couldn't be so lucky to see these folks take up a lifestyle dominated by "common sense".

Oh, ArmyMom, speaking of 'High'....John Denver was a really poor pilot. His dad however, was a highly decorated Air Force Col. and test pilot.

"Liberalism is not dead it is being reborn"
WHAT it is being "reborn into" is the reason I defected from the political beliefs I grew up with. I have never seen so many nasty people with a marxist agenda, infect a political party in my life.
